The DC/FRANCE Thread- Page 11

I am no longer in DC. Now I am in France. (They have a different keyboard from ours in the States, so there may be some really stupid-looking typos. Sorry.)

Everything went really well. While I still love flying Virgin Atlantic, I have noticed some cost-cutting measures, which were disappointing. But all-in-all, it was a great flight and my little urchins were so well-behaved, I was stunned.

After being up for 34 hours straight, I finally passed out, slept for about 4 hours, had a shower, ate a glorious meal and am here now "reporting." I have been teaching the kids some French words and expressions, which they love to say and everyone loves to hear. (French people are so nice; and they love children. I don't care what other people say. In 30 years of visiting and living in France, I have only had two run-ins with rudeness. Wish I could say the same about the States. )

Which reminds me...saw Norbert and Jonathan's last performance in DRS yesterday, and I'm really glad I did. It was like seeing the show for the first time (rather than the 13th!)

Also got to see Mamie one more time before I left the US, which was even better! Caldwell B. Cladwell took the best photo of me and Mamie with Greg, and that will always mean a lot to me.

I'm having a helluva lot of trouble getting used to euros!

Mamie, In one way, I'm glad I won't be there. If I sat through the show sobbing, the people around me might think I'm seriously deranged. (Unlike how I really am: just plain "deranged.")

But I want to know every detail!

I AM posting from France! Don't know how long it will last though.

I forgot how much better the coffee is here than in the States (except Seattle, of course, DD!). That's why nobody puts anything IN their coffee.

This will be my first time here since the migraines started. It will be strange not being able to drink every wine they pour for me. It's a good thing champagne doesn't give me headaches!

And wouldn't you know it...they had my favorite champagne chilling in the wine fridge when we arrived. How sweet is that?????

Mamie, our picture is up on Greg's website. That made me smile...through my tears!!! (BTW, the kids went crazy when I gave them Greg's "Clean Teeth Award"!)

Hey, Girlie! Nice to see you drop in. You should stop by more often.

Well, I really did go out. My goal was to buy a fan. I couldn't find even ONE! In one of the big stores, there were like 30 different food processors, 40 different hairdryers, HUNDREDS of face creams, but not one fan. If I don't get one tomorrow, I'm sleeping in the rental car.

We're still dealing with the jet lag. It's really rough the first few days.

DD, I have found that yelling at a cute guy in all caps hasn't really worked to my advantage. Remember, you and I have become friends. The first step on the way to a healthy relationship. Then, we developed a sense of caring about each other. That's step 2. The trust that develops from the caring is step 3. After trust has been established, you may then yell at the person in all caps. Otherwise, it's futile.

Try The Miss Pennywise Way to a Healthy New Romantic Relationship and let me know how it goes. (I especially want to hear about the part when you yell at him in all caps.)

Tomorrow we're either going to spend the day exploring Paris with the kids or going to EuroDisney. There's an exhibit at the Pompidou Center I wanted to see about and by Jean-Luc Godard, but my kids would be bored out of their minds.

Tonight they're little French cousins asked me to count to ten in English so that they could count along with me. After that, I did it in French. My four-year-old son turned to me and said, "Can't we do it the normal way now?" I had to explain that counting in French IS normal when you're in France!

It's pouring now. Good! Coolness is on the way.

We had key lime cheesecake on the plane. It was the best part of the meal.

We're flying back on Virgin first class, so I'll let you know what they serve.

Every truly wonderful friendship has an element of romance in it and vice-versa. Love is simple and complex.

Laugh a lot together, feel comfortable in each other's company, say anything you have to say, respect one another, help each other become the person each is meant to be (not the person you want him or he wants you to be).

This is the simple part. What's complex is trying to "implement" it!
