Be afraid. The judiciary is set up to be the branch of government NOT beholden to the electorate, freeing them up to decide what is "right" without considering what is popular.
Conservatives will target judges they do not agree with and I bet that states that DO NOT have provisions like this (that judges sit for retention) will be pressured to add one.

Well babe, just know whenever I say something about "Republicans," I'm referring only to the ones who actually have any sort of power right now.

Just a note to say that I'm not offended by the Unlce Remus photo. I'm not offended by much. But...you have to know that some poeple are a little...sensitive about racial portrayals in that movie. And then add in talk of discrimination...and perhaps there's a cognitive dissonance to the whole thing.
I get your frustration with the party to which you ascribe, but here's the deal. In New York, we got F*CKed seven ways to Sunday when the gay marriage vote came up in NYC. By several Democrats. So, many of us decided to dedicate time, money and other resources to ousting the bastards. It worked for some. It didn't work for others. But that's what we DID. It wasn't enough to just saw, 'Damn...I wish it happened differently. Oh, well.' We decided to affect change.
This is where the can of Pledge comes in to play. You may feel powerless. You may, in fact, BE powerless. But do something. Say something. Write a letter. Or e-mail. Call Congressional offices to voice your displeasure. It may not change anything. But you can be certain nothing will change if you do nothing.
