Some folks have expressed disapproval of my use of the term "Fourth Reich" to describe the current GOP. A good friend was particularly upset about it, citing a lot of historical data and all.
I certainly won't be using the term around him any more, but I'd like the throw the question open. What alternate terms for these bottom-feeding vermin can I use? Is it okay if I just call them the Forces of Darkness? The Bad Guys? Prick Ear'd Curs of Iceland? Or is there anything really more derogatory than just calling them Republicans?

Empire -- not bad, but a bit too general, I think. There's something noble and imposing about The Empire.
Evil Empire, maybe? But that's Reagan's term for the Soviets, so that's no good.
I would vote F*CKtards if it weren't so insulting to the developmentally disabled.
Submitted for your consideration: The Luddites.

Who cares if they are offended. That is what they are… the Fourth Reich. Their extremism is no different from Al Qaeda. I haven't heard Al Qaeda complaining that they are being called terrorists

The folks who were offended weren't Republicans, interestingly. The offended folks take the position that you lose when you bring up the Nazis in a disagreement, and that using the term Fourth Reich does a disservice to the specific historical issue of the Nazis and the Jews who died in the Holocaust.
I don't buy it, myself. The comparison seems apt enough to me, and I'm reminded of the old statement about fascism coming to America not under the sign of the swastika but wrapped in the Old Glory and brandishing the Bible.
Just stop. I can't stand extremist on either sides. You are just as bad as they are. What you are doing is not helping or changing anyone's mind.

"I can't stand extremist on either sides."
A rather extreme position in itself.
I would vote F*CKtards if it weren't so insulting to the developmentally disabled.
You refer to the developmentally challenged as "****tards"? How progressive and honorable of you.
Well...the 'tard' is a scaled-down version of the derisive 'retard', which many people take exception to.
The insult actually comes when comparing the developmentally disabled with Republicans. I mean, no developmentally disabled person should have to live with THAT insult.
In a previous post, someone said the democrats were just as bad as the republicans because of things Obama did not do in his first term. Does that make him one of the above? Just curious.
So much for honest open debate. If you do not agree with people you are called every name in the book. I know I will be given that honor after this post. Does not exactly fit the model of tolerance now does it?
I am old enough to remember how things were done in the 60's. A little more respect of everyone elses point of view. It makes it easier to reach a compromise.Unfortunately, not many here are open to compromise of any kind. Ghandi would not be to happy nor would Dr King.If you hurl names like these around like bombs there is no reason for the other side to listen to your position
Say what you want as I have said my piece here & will not be revisiting this thread. I do not gloat about last night. Hopefully cooler head will prevail & unlike this board both sides will work together for the common good.

I suppose the Republicans are, in fact, working for the common good, if the common good is defined as being the richest 1% of the population.
And it is interesting to have gotten a plea for dialogue from someone who posts and runs.

ghandi or dr. king would not ask any of the posters in this thread to live as second class citizens. if you are as fair minded as you claim, neither should you.
I have complete respect for people with different opinions from mine, even those in the extreme. However, I have no respect for those who put politics ahead of the common good, and the GOP leadership has been open and honest about their lack of interest in working with the Dems. Say what you want about Obama, but I don't question his integrity or his intentions. I can't say the same the leaders of the GOP.
And I'm sorry, but every point of view does not deserve equal respect.
If someone feels--and says--that I am a second-class citizen, that I deserve fewer rights than they do, I am not obligated to respect that point of view.
i'm sticking with "your friends and neighbors."
and reg, just what do you think you are doing at the front of the bus? again?? don't make me get mah fiyah hose, boy.
to paraphrase the bear, "you're not really in this for the bus riding, are ya?"
