ok, crucify me if this link was posted already, but i would encourage people on both sides of the debate who are actually interested in why the trial went the way it did to visit jeralyn merritt's www.talkleft.com.
she covered the trial exhaustively from the beginning and does so in an unbiased manner (i bet if you did a search you would find a lot of people here having linked to her work regarding something called "fitzmas" and a few other notably progressive cases).
i watched some of the trial, enough that i would have been shocked indeed if the jury had returned a guilty verdict.
from her work, you get to see the case develop without any of the histrionics favored by either side. if go into it with a mildly open mind, i think you will come away with a different point of view or at least an understanding of why this case was decided the way it was.
