That angry black man is Larry Elder, one of the archetypes of the nation's black conservative intelligentsia that looks down upon Rachel Jeantel (and me many years ago) as the dregs of the race.

Solely out of concern did I suggest that she wasn't ready for this level of public scrutiny. Even at 19 there's a tendency for many in the African American community to refer to her as "that poor chile" as a term of endearment. And I got a bone to pick with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill for asking her during the HuffPost Live interview if she knew who Rush Limbaugh was only to later remark along the lines of "he's not somebody you need to even worry about".

The GOP cretins will get as much mileage out of her as possible all the way up to the next general election.

I don't post that much when it comes to this stuff because I do find that everything is way too one sided with this board sometimes and the people on the other side are too far out there as well.

Martin attacked Zimmerman first and no matter who is following you, you don't have the right to attack someone first for this reason. Zimmerman also put himself into a situation where he got himself in way over his head and he ended up feeling like his life was in danger and had to use deadly force to protect himself.

This whole thing could have been avoided if both parties would have behaved and acted in a better manner. But in the end neither of them did and this is the result but I find them both to be at fault for what happened.

When it comes to the verdict, there was simply not enough evidence that Zimmerman was guilty. Martin didn't have any other injuries to his body which shows that he was the one that started the physical confrontation which made this very obvious that this was going to go to a not guilty result because of self defense.

Sure you can argue race and injustice back and forth forever but in the end both of them were idiots and because of that this is what happened.

Finally the real villains in this story emerge: wait staff.

If that's not the stupidest, most wrong-headed thing I've ever heard of, it's near the top of the list.

Can you list me what evidence you have that Martin physically attacked Zimmerman first and initiated the fight aside from Zimmerman's testimony which, I argue, could be easily impeached if ever subjected to cross-examination?

If Martin attacked Zimmerman first like the evidence shows then there is no crime here. Even though Zimmerman was following him, it still gave Martin no right to start a psychical confrontation with him because of that. At the age of 17, while still being a minor he should have known better then to do that.

All the evidence points to self defense. I do believe Zimmerman made some very stupid decisions but there isn't anything illegal about that. You can't just sentence Zimmerman to jail because he doesn't deserve a free pass.

I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong as well but the problem is we don't know who threw the first punch but all of the physical evidence that they have, Martins autopsy report showing that there weren't any other injuries other then a small cut on one of his fingers and the pictures from Zimmerman and the back of his head matches up with his story of self defense.

Now whether or not Zimmerman is telling the truth or not can be debated forever. We won't ever have Martins side of it but that doesn't mean that Martin wasn't in the wrong.

The problem is you can't sentence Zimmerman because his story is the only one.

Martin's lack of other injuries could just as easily indicate that Martin was simply a better fighter, not necessarily that he was the aggressor.

Yeah. I wish the state had brought in Zimmerman's questionable past. But that would have opened up the door for defense to bring in Martin's background and it doesn't mean they would have convicted him. Still, you have to wonder...
