The George Zimmerman Trial

henrik - I am confident that it would not have received any attention beyond the local papers and news channels. A black man being shot is not significant anymore, sadly, but the government actually pursuing a conviction of a man who shot an innocent black guy because of political outcry and pressure is significant.

If I had to guess I might say manslaughter or a hung jury are the most likely outcomes, but not by much - anything could happen from a murder conviction to a complete acquittal.

Ever since the Casey Anthony verdict, I like to believe that practically anything is possible in the state of Florida now.

I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I never said I wanted the gory details, and I certainly don't need to see a picture of a dead body to know what the outcome of a murder is.

I have to agree with Liza. Zimmerman was told to stay in his car. He did not do that. He followed Trayvon and subsequently shot him. He didn't follow the directions the police gave him. Had he done that, Trayvon would not be dead.

KFTC!!!!!

Stockard, the argument against that is the operator never actually ordered him to stay in his car - he simply told him they "didn't need" him to follow Trayvon. They are only allowed to make suggestions and recommendations, not commands, as to not be held liable for anything that might occur during the call.

It's a fair argument but I just counter with God given common sense: you are not law enforcement.. you should not be tracking down "suspicious" persons! You are simply a set of eyes in the neighborhood. You call the police and if they can deal with it, they deal with it. This manic vigilante attitude is what got him into trouble!

All these freaking retard lawyer talking heads have NO common sense whatsoever. This was a cold blooded murder. Case closed. imho, of course.

GEORGE ZIMMERMAN FOUND NOT GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES.

This was a really difficult case to prosecute.

I choose to believe that the jury simply found that there was reasonable doubt.

I will always believe that George Zimmerman was looking for trouble, and if he had obeyed the orders to stay in the car Trayvon Martin would be alive. George Zimmerman is 'guilty' of killing a 17 year-old young man, regardless of the law.

But, I respect our legal process.

Well, I suppose it's good to know that it's totally cool to follow and murder an innocent human with no justification.

Ugh. How awful.

Agreed, there was likely reasonable doubt.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

But, in the end... another person in Florida gets away with murder.

Remember that the NOT GUILTY doesn't necessarily mean innocence.. It just means there was reasonable doubt. While I agree with adgal (and everyone else), as there is no doubt in my mind Zimmerman is guilty, the Prosecution made several missteps and I too can acknowledge there was substantial "reasonable doubt."

Florida misses the mark again. Too bad.

There was no other verdict they could come up with. There were no witnesses, not enough evidence, etc. They came to their verdict reluctantly, with heavy hearts.

"Well, I suppose it's good to know that it's totally cool to follow and murder an innocent human with no justification."

No, it is NOT cool. it's unfortunate that there was not enough evidence to prosecute. No one thinks it's cool.

Indeed.

He may not be guilty in the eyes of the Court, but Karma is real and alive and still works. Just as OJ eventually "got his," Zimmerman (just like Casey Anthony) will be on the receiving end in some form at some time.

There are certainly people who believe what Zimmerman did was perfectly fine- in the eyes of these people, Trayvon Martin was some sort of wannabe thug who basically had it coming. I am not saying I believe this, but there are those who actually think this.

And while I understand reasonable doubt, it just makes me so angry that a grown man can kill an unarmed child and get off scot-free.
