LOL. i feel bad for Obama-Wan-Kenobi. He had a good idea in theory. It looks great on paper. He obviously didnt design this himself, hes the President, hes just surrounded by some bad people who dont know how to run things and told him what they thought he wanted to hear and just crossed their fingers.

I thought I'd update here with my progress, since I outlined my issue(s) from the beginning of this thread ...

My application was completed without any of my financial information going through, and I was locked out from editing it. In other words, the application assumes I'm not seeking any sort of tax credit or assistance. It also doesn't let you delete your application and start over. So you can't edit after you enter the info (even though there is a "review your application" button that doesn't work).

The good news? I have been able to access my application very easily with no major delays on the website. I have also called their customer service line, and I got through right away with no waiting, both on Sunday (when I was trying to figure out if I could edit), and Monday (today), when I asked for a supervisor to help me either delete the application, or edit it with a complex scenario for financials.

They are calling me back at a designated time window within 48 hours.

But since my application went through without any tax credit info, I was able to see the rates for the various plans, as is.

I'm currently on a Blue Cross Blue Shield individual plan, and the rates I'm shown are pretty much exactly the same as before. No real jump in coverage, and no real discount either. The deductibles, premiums, and copays all pretty much look the same (again this is without any tax credit assistance).

But the deductions appear when they do have your financials. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that got thru at the very beginning. Let me know how the rest of your process goes. I already sent my paper work in and will have full coverage at the beginning of the year. $88.00 a month. Without it it would have been close to $400. I am happy and relieved.

I'm still locked out of mine. I try to login and it tells me I can't.

This is what happens when I request a password change & get the email and go to the link they send:

Cassandra2---that sounds great! Hopefully, I will have a similar outcome after I can fill out the forms correctly (with no glitches in the calculations and no misinformation). As far as your rate(s), my individual coverage without any tax credits would be anywhere from $329 to $529 per month, which is in line with current individual health plans offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield and Coventry. Hopefully, with some assistance, I will be able to save money. And if/when I take a full-time gig again (which I'm hoping to do soon), my rate will adjust accordingly, or I will go on my employer's plan, like most people do.

They really are, Cassandra2.

And the regular rates aren't any higher than current health insurance rates (pre-Obamacare). It all depends on your deductible and your copay. The lower they are, the higher the monthly premiums. Nothing new about that.

Your outcome really encourages me to stick with it, and get my financial info straightened out on the application. It could be well worth it, especially during my unemployment.

Yes. It is totally worth it to get it straightened out. The financials they ask for are really not much different that what they ask when you use the shopping tool. What you do have to go over carefully is the paperwork you will get in the mail ( or E mail), because you have to sign it. Pretty much you just have to say what you filed last year. Very easy. I would suggest waiting a few weeks and then trying again once the sites traffic subsides a little bit. Truly a great thing that we can all now have access to healthcare. Please don't let the negative bullies here or the fox news propaganda deter you. Get yourself covered.

They won't deter me! I'll get coverage even if I don't qualify for a discount. I'm already insured without one via Blue Cross.

Again, my situation is weird, because for part of last year, I made decent money. Part of it, I made no money at all, and part of it, I was on unemployment insurance, along with some income from other various sources. We'll see what they say, but at least I hope to supply all the info and see where I stand. Even a partial discount is better than no discount at all.

Sue,how can you relate? Healthcare is something you do not have to worry about because your parents are paying for all your health care costs. For someone who is covered and has no problems with healthcare or can even relate to others on here with their problems and frustrations, you sure do have a lot to say on the matter.

1) you are right, i am on my Dads HC,i have been upfront about that. I mean i relate as anyone can to Mr Besties frustration with CS. and having to repeatedly do the same thing over and over only to have it wrong. I had the same problems dealing with the state dept and consulate.

2) apparently you never saw star wars. Obie-Wan-Kenobi is a great man, the leader of the force. how is that name calling?

Mrs R is not 65 so does not qualify for medicare. She has been trying since day 1 to get healthcare and has given up in frustration. She will try again in a few weeks. She has no healthcare and says if something happens until she does she will just go to a city hospital. If you can't beat em join em

She can not believe the absolute mess this is despite them having years to get all their ducks in a row before the roll out.

Strange that the website is from a Canadian company and it was a no bid contract. Way to go DEMS

It's not so strange that the contract went to CGI; they'd done work for the US government in the past, and they'd done work similar to that requested for healthcare.gov. But that still doesn't explain why it's so problematic.

And there were three other bidders for the contract.

I'm sure our government didn't want to pay Silicon Valley prices. But with a site like this and a complex system like this, you don't cut corners. That tactic will not only cost you money, it will cost you votes, jobs, elections, and national progress for our country's healthcare system as a whole.

You don't "comparison shop" for something like that. Ever.

You go for the best, bar none, and you pay for it. And you pay them what they're worth.

EDIT: The biggest mistake our government made was underestimating how important this public interface was to their whole cause, their whole agenda, and everything they've been working on for decades.

That's not the time to look for a "good deal" for web developers.

Huge, huge, mistake.

It's only fixable if they fire everybody involved and bring in the big guns now, which will cost far more than if they had done that to begin with.

Our government didn't know (or understand) what they were shopping for. You don't kick the tires. You buy the best.

(Sorry, but this is the part that make me furious, because it quite literally sabotages everything to do with the ACA and an improved healthcare system in this country.)

I dont think i have ever said a word about Harry Reid. I do happen to like a lot about Obama, ive said it over and over, i just dont think he walks on water like a lot of others do and think he sometimes doesnt see the world for what it is.

OK, i do live at home. but i will tell you, i was told if i did not go to college, i would be kicked out of the house and have to live on my own. Also, I got partial scholorships and yes they have paid the balance BUT, i must work, get a job no matter what kind or they would not pay. So i have to hostess 4 nights a week at a restaurant/bar. True I am lucky, but make no mistake, they would throw my ass out like they did to my older sister when she took a semester off.

Sue,reread my post.I think it's great you are going to school and I would tell my kid the exact same thing if they were living in my home.Going to school and working, kudos to your Mom and Dad. This is as close to a compliment as you are gonna get with me.

I'm just confused with all your faux concerns and outrage over Obamacare when it absolutely does not appear to effect you at all.You sure have a strong opinion about it and like I said,if you were 26 paying out of your own pocket and living on your own with no help from your parents I could maybe understand you situation.May not agree but I would at least be able to see your point of view.Regarding this topic, you seem to have something to say about it here and under Casandra's post about how she got healthcare.In that post your first concern was how she could afford Cher tickets over health insurance.

So,you have a very strong opinion on something you yourself are not paying into.By time you are 26 I think Obamacare will be running smoothly and you will feel very different then than you do now.

OK thank you Romantico youre right you did say that and i appreciate that.

My problems with this as i have stated before on this and others are not so much the concept but:

1) i dont think you should be forced to get HC if you dont want it. Its more of a philosophy of personal responsability than against HC. I feel the same about bikehelmets and seatbelts.
2) if this was Apple or Google or Ford or any private company,they wouldnt have rushed the product to market without hundreds of tests to make sure all is well. and if it wasnt and they had this launch for a new product, the people responsible would be fired on the spot.

Roxy, Obama administration did not have years to develop the website. They barely had two years and if you knew anything about system development you would understand that it's not nearly enough time for such a complex system. And CGI Federal is a wholly owned American subsidiary with the headquarters in Virginia and with most of the work being done there. Tell Mrs. R to wait a few more weeks.
