The fact is that as of right now over 90% of the people in the various states who have signed up have signed up for Medicaid and not the ACA. The government reported how Oregon is doing a fantastic job. But the fact is that in Oregon 100000 folks have signed up for Medicaid. It's great they now have coverage but ZERO people have signed up for policies where they pay.
The government is misrepresenting what is actually happening with regards to who is signing up for what.

Ugh. I hate blanket statements like this regardless of who it's about. siny, there is simply no tool of measurement to accurately confirm this or even *suggest* it. I think what you're saying can be said of many individuals in 2013 - regardless of political leaning.

Oregon is actually a special circumstance and shouldn't be cited as an example of the norm since their exchange isn't up yet so nobody is ABLE to choose an ACA plan. Apart from this, they set up a special medicaid enrollment fast track program a month ago. So it's disingenuous to suggest that everyone is signing up for medicaid instead of signing up for ACA. They're two completely separate processes.

Liza, this is not a scientific observation, but from what I've seen most of the political FB statuses and chain emails are right-wing. Just look at Snopes. Their rate of debunked BS is 10:1 conservative.

I accept that Oregon was a bad example. And admittedly it is still difficult to sign up in all the states. The problem is that if people don't readily accept this plan on a large scale or rather universally, there are going to be huge deficits created that will result in more taxes along with a big negative effect on the economy.
Even higher rates will create less spending in other areas. A lot is riding on this new system of healthcare.

Reg, it's a blanket statement by implying that only (or most) Republicans get their news from Facebook and that's it. To me, I don't care what "side" you're on. It's just an asinine remark, especially when you're trying to tout it as a scientific observation. Obviously, siny now claims he/she didn't but it certainly didn't read that way to me in the original post. Either way, I don't really care.. I'm a "minivan moderate." But I would suggest or argue that perhaps it's not just republicans but liberals and other non political people who get their news from social media. I am of the opinion that it doesn't have to do with one political party.

Hate to break the new to some of you but I do not even post on facebook. I look in on my wife's account. In addition, I get news from many outlets. Your facebook comments show how sad you are as individuals. Anyone who does not agree with you has to be ill informed. I feel sorry for you and your narrow mindedness.

Why would anyone go to FB to see what anyone is saying?
The facts about what is happening these days are all around us. The only thing everyone seems to be arguing about is who is responsible.
We have a sluggish economy producing jobs at a slow rate and many of those jobs are part time.
We have a new healthcare system which is trying to get off the ground and what happens next is any one"s guess.
We have chaos in the middle east and no apparent agreement as to which direction to head.
We have a debt of 17T which is 15T more than 2008.
We have more people on government assistance than ever before.
We have all our allies in Europe as well as the Presidents of Mexico and Brazil up in
arms about us spying on them.
We have a Congress which seems incapable in working together.
The country in general feels we are headed in the wrong direction.
Is that pretty much it? But we do have Xanax. So I'm okay.

Here's the thing: With everything from nutty to terrifying going on in the world, it baffles me that everyone from major media to elected representatives to pundits we follow religiously (pun to a certain extent intended) to Aunt Fran on Facebook go to such lengths to create, broadcast, and otherwise disseminate so much utter nonsense.
And I know that anecdotal evidence is a dangerous thing, but I have to say that the nuttiest, least investigated stuff I get faced with on social media via friends, relatives, and those weird kids from high school who for some reason want to reconnect is right-leaning propaganda.
I'm the first to admit that's not scientific (but hey, who trusts science anyway?). And I'll take any brickbats I have coming. But it is honestly my experience.
