I agree that it will be nominated, Roxy, but I think THE NUMBER 23 has it in the bag.

Acting honors must go to Cage & Fonda

Ever since Leaving Las Vegas, Cage has done nothing memorable & a lot of dreck

Number 23 - best original screenplay.

The burning question is: will Jim Carey be overlooked again?

Obviously, you have never seen Adaptation.

You should definitely see it. Besides spectacular work by Cage, it includes stellar performances from Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper, who won the Supporting Actor Oscar.

And it is one of greatest, most original screenplays of all-time.

Agree whole heartedly!!!

In americanboy99's defense, I did read an article about next years hopefuls in USA Today a few weeks ago. They mentioned a movie called "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks and yes, Sweeney Todd.

make no mistake about it, the studios are already planning their campaigns for next year. They clearly know which film are prestige pics and schedule them accordingly. You could look at any studio's release schedule and tell which films they hope will be Oscar bait.
The unknown variables are the indies that haven't even been screened yet.

Don't forget Hilary Swank in that movie about plagues and whatnot.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
