Thank you, tazber.
Keep an eye on Jeff Daniels and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Lookout.
Okay.
Anyone seen THE REAPING (sp?)?
I know, obviously, no chance of nominations.. but how was it?
The Weinstein Company has already said it plans to push John Cusak for Grace Is Gone. It's an indie about a Father whose wife dies in the 9/11 attacks and can't bring himself to tell his daughters.
Scarlett Johansson is in The Other Boleyn Girl, not Reese Witherspoon.

The film adaptation of Susan Minot's novel "Evening" looks like it could receive a lot of buzz and have quite a few nomination possibilities. The cast includes:
Vanessa Redgrave (Older Ann Lord)
Claire Danes (Younger Ann Lord--in flashbacks)
Natasha Richardson
Toni Collette
Glenn Close
Meryl Streep (Older Lila Witteborn)
Mamie Gummer (Younger Lila--in flashbacks)
Eileen Atkins
Hugh Dancy
and...
Patrick Wilson as Harris Arden (the woman Ann falls in love with during a weekend in the 50's and never forgets).
That's a powerhouse cast!

Yes, it is Johansson. My mistake.
Will NINE be made in time for Oscar season?
Probably not.
I read Nine won't be ready till 2009.
Besides, probably only one musical would have a shot and Sweeney Todd is scheduled for this year.
Shrek 3 will most likely get an animation nom.
I wonder if Helena Bonham Carter's performance will warrant a Lead or Featured Actress nomination.
Spiderman 3 for some technical nominations?
You do know you're the only person responding to this thread anymore?
You just did...

I'm hoping the new Cronenberg film will be good.
What is it Cruel?
Also, the sequel to the Cate Blanchett Elizabeth is coming out in November. It's by the same director and stars Cate again. I can't think of the title though.

EASTERN PROMISES is the new Cronenberg.
Thanks. I'm gonna look it up. I generally like Cronenberg.
Except EXistenZ. that was a bit weak.
Looks like EVENING won't be getting the nods we expected.
My picks for Lead Actress (as of now... very hopeful):
Kerri Russell, WAITRESS
Marion Cotillard, LA VIE EN ROSE
Helena Bonham-Carter- SWEENEY TODD
Natalie Portman, THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL
Kate Winslet, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD
Well, if Kate Winslet gets an Oscar nomination for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD for the 2008 Oscars, it will be before anyone has seen the film. It is slated for a late 2008 release. So it will be eligible for the 2009 Oscars.
A few films to keep in mind:
ATONEMENT
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
LIONS FOR LAMBS
RESERVATION ROAD
LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA
THE NAMESAKE
THE LOOKOUT
ONCE
LA VIE EN ROSE
A MIGHTY HEART
CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR
AWAY FROM HER
ZODIAC
RESCUE DAWN
THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY
IN THE VALLY OF ELAH
THE KITE RUNNER
LUST, CAUTION
ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE
AMERICAN GANGSTER
SticktoPriest- DUH! I definitely got my years confused. Yes, WHOOPS.
Hmm.
Well, then.
Cate Blanchett, ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN YEARS
If she gives half as good of a performance as her previous one, that Oscar is hers.

Why would Carter be supporting for Sweeney Todd? Lovett is a leading role.
