The Official "Complain about next years schools shows" Thread

Here you have it. Complain about what shows you're doing next year.

Apparently my school decided to have the musical in the fall and drama in the spring, after 50 years of it being the other way around. Not too big of a deal. I just like having smaller shows in the fall.

Annyywaayy....
I heard that someone was thinking about doing Wizard of Oz for next years musical. Wizard of Oz! Ugh! It's like an elementry school musical. This year my school did Titanic. I don't see how you can go do something as ambitious as Titanic, and then go to Wizard of Oz. I'm praying the person who told me heard wrong, and what they really meant was The Boy from Oz or The Wiz. Wizard of Oz is almost as bad as doing High School Musical.

My school is doing Fiddler. Fiddler is an amazing show but there arent enough guys to do a bottle dance and not enough people to fill the charecters.

There's only one really good male dancer (who was actually an 8th grader at the time) when we did Fiddler last year. We used velcro for the bottle dance. when they took the bottles off, we just cheered really loudly.

I hated Fiddler I was Fruma-Sarah. Because in our director's eyes, all I can play is crazy old woman.

We don't find out what we do for our spring musical until the day they announce auditions. It's part of the reason why there are only 30 people in our theatre department (in a school of over 700).

My school is rumored to be having the worst show next year. (Thankfully, I won't be there, but still...)

Can you guess?

I'll give you a hint: my drama teacher knows absolutely NOTHING about real musical theatre.

I bet you can't fathom something this horrible, so I'll tell you.

Haha, well at least you'll be among the FIRST!

My school usually does really good, classic shows, last year we did Once Upon A Mattress, which was just...lame compared to everything else we do. I have yet to know what the next year's show is.

After having a pretty good season of musicals this year with Anything Goes and Cabaret, my school has decided to do Seussical and Baby. Baby's okay, but for a school with a big theatre department, it's such a small show.

And the other school that I attend was went from Thoroughly Modern Millie (which made my day), to Footloose, to Hair. Hair is okay, but I much prefer the new arrangements, which we can't do. The old arrangements kinda suck. It's a disappointment considering we did Sweeney this year and I was so looking foward to Millie next year.

Well...ready to have your minds blown?

We arent even doing a musical (from what I've been told) and if we do the only plays our teacher is conisidering are:
Honk (please kill me :[ )
A Year With Frog And Toad (I wouldnt mind that to much...if we were doing it for pre-k as opposed for upity highschoolers theree for book credit)and
Bring in da Noise (AN ALL BLACK/LATINO CAST! WE HAVE ONE AFRICAN AMERICAN THAT IS INTO MUSICAL THEATER?!?!?!?!?)[

Oh and this year we did Spoon River Anthology...which is the crap version of Our Town...THERE WAS NO DIALOGUE!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

End vent...for now -_-

Well hey, Honk is a musical! Unless it's a different version that I don't know about.

I'm sorry your season isn't looking too promising. I'm sure whatever you're a part of will turn out to be a good show no matter what.

Our next season isnt bad as much as it is just bland.

Noises off- Fun show but im just worried about it, good comedic acting is hard to find and we have a small group.

Cinderella- EH...

The Bad Seed- this just doesnt seem fun because the killer is a little girl, no a guy. I just finished playing a murderer and i wanted to do it again, but better.

they havent announced UIL OAP, or the other show. Im excited but im not enthralled

wackjack, I sure I am alone in this but I actually sort of like honk. I did it a few years ago.

anyway, Im in college but our fall musical is Sweet Charity (for which I am the publicist and I am also auditioning) and in the spring, I am proposing to direct The Wild Party (lippa version). at my school everyone who wants to direct has to go through this big proposal process and the members of the group vote. I think Im going against seussical and bye bye birdie, so I dont think I will have a problem.

Come Back to Me, we just did COA. It was SO much fun.

So anyway, we're doing Annie in the fall. My director's bringing in at least one little girl from each elementary school so we'll get a really big audience. That'll probably work because a few years ago they did Wizard of Oz and they had kids (I was one) be munchkins.
I'm going to try to be the part of Annie because I'm definitely short enough, and I think she's been thinking of me for it.

Anyone who is complaining about Seussical should give it a try. When my theatre group announced that was the show we would be performing I was really mad and upset, thinking about all the other good shows we could have performed. I was incredibly suprised when it turned out to be the funnest show I've ever been in, even in the ensemble. There's so much to do and lots of characters.

So yeah, just a word to anyone who is performing Seussical. Enjoy it!

omg icantbelieve, my school's doing fiddler too! oh how i hate it. my complaints are all the same ones you have, except i have another one too. It's my senior year next year and i was expecting the show to be something for a brash mezzo to star in, like Into the Woods or maybe Annie Get Your Gun. But no. grrr!

Not school but my theatre company is doing Fiddler on the Roof (eh) and for the first time ever, a play, To Kill a Mockingbird. I'm really disappointed in this season. It was SUPPOSED to be Aida but that fell through. My school (for once) is doing better shows. The director told me she's considering Little Shop of Horrors and Urinetown, with me in mind. Um exciting much?

It's not my school, but one of my community theatre groups is planning on doing Beauty and the Beast, and they told me they had me in mind as a forerunner for Belle...except I'll be at college when they do it. I'm so sad.

Too the one that liked Honk...it's not that I dont like it...it's just not my thing. I'm sure if we do it it'll be alright cause from what I've seen its a pretty simple set, which means we might actually get new set peices!

I would KILL to be doing Seussical next year. That's mostly because I costume our shows as well as perform, but it would be really fun to be in, too.

I think it would be interesting to do High School Musical. With some good talent, it might not be as bad. Yeah, it's still not great musical theatre, but it would be pretty cool to say that you were one of the first schools to do it.

When does everyone do their musicals for school?

Ours is second quarter. (Performed mid-January)

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

I'm doing Little Shop Of Horrors. I have no idea how well it's going to be because we have absolutly NO guy talent at my school. Also, last year was our first year doing 2 weekends of shows. We did Beauty and the Beast last year, and our director says that this year will actually decide if we're going to continue doing shows for 2 weekends because a Disney musical "sells itself" So we have a lot of pressure on us to do well.
