I can't complain, while I don't go to a school with a theater program, there is a theater company which I do. Next season we are doing Oliver!, Yours Anne, Beauty and the Beast, and Hansel and Gretel

I am honestly jealous of every single person on this thread (except maybe HSM people). No one can complain until they do Brigadoon and Mame in HIGH SCHOOL. Ridiculous. I don't know what they are doing this year as I will not be there.

After an amaz-er-ing production of Les Miz this past spring, which probably came out as the best thing our HS has ever done (and believe me, that's saying something), my senior year next season will include Children of Eden - the first time our drama teacher has repeated a show since she gained "complete control" of our club, though we are planning on taking it to the Illinois High School Theatre Festival - and Beauty and the Beast. Eh.

To everyone out there that doesn't like their shows, I'm sorry and I hope everything turns out well... not that doing Jane Eyre can be more than yucky... but I'm sure you all can bring out the best. Or as my friend said when coaching me in having to make a speech about a director I didn't like, "fakey face time!".
I couldn't be happier with my school's shows! We are doing "The Women" as our fall play and Pajama Game for the musical! *happy dance*

we did city of angels! wow I've never heard of anyone who actually KNOWS that show........its great! i think we did a pretty good job too!

Hey all!

At my highschool, our musical of the year was Seussical. While I wasn't a big fan of it in the beginning, after hearing the songs and and watching everything come together, I fell in love with the show! I did tech crew for it and it became the highest grossing musical in my school's theatre history! It coincided with this "Read Across America" thing going on at the time, and it attracted many younger people.

In a conversation with my theatre teacher, our musical next year is to be "The Mikado." While i'm a huge fan of the show, i'm not sure my school is capable of tackling the Gilbert and Sullivan score. I guess it's just me *shruggs*

smashing-- You've got to have a very talented soprano and an AMAZING alto/contratenor. It's a demanding score.

Ugh.... for YEARS I have been begging my school to do Les Miserables since it is my favorite musical ever, and I pretty much would give anything to be in a production of it anywhere. So... due to the fundraising of this year's senior class... they decided they have enough money to do it next year.

It actually made failing really tempting. All I can say is my college better be doing an amazing show.

So yeah, this isn't reallyt complaning about the show. But oh well. I tend to vent about this a lot:)

to all you people doing high school musical - i am truly sorry....that really sucks!! i would die!!!

and all you doing fiddler...it ends up being an ok show..i was tzeitel my sophomore year..and it was my first show so i was kind of impressionable.. but i really enjoyed it so i am sure you'll learn to like it!

i wish i knew what my school was doing we wont know til sept. but my stupid lame-@$$ choir director who has no idea in hell what she is doing...wants to do 42nd street!!
yeah right that is a dream where does she think we are going to find tap dancers?? ha, ha wish me luck!!

It's not that I don't think that Seussical will be a fun show, I just know because of school politics that I won't be cast in it and I think it has the potential to be not so great. And I don't think it will play too well to a college audience. It seems like a really fun show to be in though. I'm way more upset about Hair instead of Millie. (Although, with the right cast, Hair could be the most fun I've ever had in a show...)

And to the complaints about Noises Off, I can tell you that no matter the talent, because the material is funny on its own, the audience will love it and it will be funny. My brother's school just did it and despite some of the cast being weak, it was hysterical because the book is so funny and the high schoolers were loving it.

Too all you HSM kids, I'm sorry! I have to listen to that music everyday at work (stupid TCP), plus I have a 7 year old cousin who loves the show... all I can say is sorry (over and over again).

Jane Eyre??? I would LOOOOVE to do that show!

My school just finished "Into the Woods" and I swear, it was an all-star cast. I was "Cinderella" in the show and my best friends were all the other leads. It was seriously the most rewarding and challenging show I've done to date. Not to mention I got the part of Cinderella a week and a half before opening night, being the original Rapunzel.

But next year, we're going from a fab show like "Into the Woods" to "Sweet Charity," "Singing in the Rain," "The Who's Tommy," and my director even looked at the rights for "Beauty and the Beast."

oy. I would love to do Beauty and the Beast, but the rights are soo expensive and with all the technical stuff? yeah right! So it wouldn't happen.

And to you kids doing "High School Musical"

My regrets.

Although I love the music and the movie, it just shouldn't be onstage.

"When does everyone do their musicals for school?"

My school has a fall play in early October, our musical takes place at the end of february and beginning of march, and our spring play takes place in the middle of may.

K.... here's my two bits:

First off, Suessical: Holy krap!!! Everyone MUST do this show sometime in their life! I am in the middle of a huge production of Seussical with a community theatre company and it is honestly one of the greatest theatrical experiences I have ever been a part of. The music is AMAZING and it has soooo many opportunities for comedy and just plain fun. Because of some loooovely politics I didn't get the a lead either... I'm a Wickersham brother and in lots of chorus numbers... but it is STILL amazing! I don't think you can do the show without having an absolute blast.

Now, as for school shows... my school has NOOOOO theatre department! AT ALL. So guess what??? I am starting one next year! I am student directing "HONK!" as the first musical theatre production ever put on at my high school. I will also be starring as Ugly in it :) (there are NO other guys available). I personally couldn't be more excited about the show. Throughout the rest of the year with two different local theatre groups I will be doing The Sound of Music, Aladdin Jr. (for a much younger cast), Les Mes (SOOO excited!), and another one that hasn't been chosen yet. I can't complain about ANY of them!

And I don't get why ppl aren't happy about "Joseph" and "Fiddler" and even "Wizard of Oz"... they are CLASSICS! I've done all three and had a blast every time. A show is what you make it. Just be grateful your school has a running theatre program!

My school just switched to muical in the fall, making it more stressful on us because we have less time to get the show ready, and we're doing the play in the spring, and everywhere else in my district's the opposite! So in Nov. We're doing Beauty and the Beast! YES! Which is amazingly awesome! But now we're doing And Then There Were None, formerly known as Ten Little Indians, yes the Agatha Christie one, in March, when we would do the musical. It was changed for political correctness. I think it got switched so we could get the rights, because last year Country Dinner Playhouse, curse them, outbid us for the rights. As long as we got to do it before I graduated! If you could help me with my audition, that would be super, just see the link below!

Well I found a monologue, HOORAY! After 4 days I found the perfect one. So no need to go to the above link, but if you could go to the link at the bottom and tell me what you think, that would be super.

But anyway, our other musical options might have been The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Uggh, cringe moment, and CopaCabana. Sigh all lame next to Broadway's Classic Musical: Beauty and the Beast!

You and your monologues. Anyway, My school does shakespeare every year, and we were supposed to be doing the twelfh night but now they've decided not. I want to do Les Mis, desparately, but my school has never done a musical and probably won't want to start now. My school will be 21 years old next year, why not make it special?
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Yep, It does my head in. Well, a few years ago we did Pride & Predjudice, but other than that it's been Shakespeare. I argued for Les Mis on the count of the involvement of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the original Production in London. They're having none of it.

That's ok, I school do Les Mis and it ROCKED MY SOX OFF! So don't feel bad, it's a hard show and that was the only school I saw it at. Some schools would just f' it up. Not that that is a hit on your school.

It should be. I actually gave up because I decided it would be better to do Shakespeare than run the risk of ruining my favourite show. I am the only one in the class with any show experience, although a few people are good singers and one is a good actor. I have seen other schools with absolutely no experience do it rather well though. Oh well, I'll have to resign myself to the fact that I'll be playing some lovestruck guy with a rediculous name which is somehow supposed to be Italian (Have you ever met an Italian called Mercutio or Salerio or Balthasar?).

My college is doing "Once on this Island" second sememster. We have a few african american people in our department, but only 2 sing. Plus, we just did the show is a staged reading in March. So, basically, WE'VE ALREADY DONE THE SHOW!!! Plus, there's something about a bunch of white, upper-middle class college students doing "Once on this Island" that makes me a little sick.
