My college is doing "Once on this Island" second sememster. We have a few african american people in our department, but only 2 sing. Plus, we just did the show is a staged reading in March. So, basically, WE'VE ALREADY DONE THE SHOW!!! Plus, there's something about a bunch of white, upper-middle class college students doing "Once on this Island" that makes me a little sick.

our director was considering Beauty & the Beast...but then realized we dont have enough money for the rights.....so right now we dont know whats going on....this year she told us she wanted to do B&B or Funny Thing.. and we did Barnum. so who knows.

Well mine's not too bad. . . we're doing the Wiz. . . we just did Footloose. I'm excited and I'm one of the choreographers. . . woot-woot!

Pirelis: I saw Pippin at Illinois Theater Fest. Actually, I go to the school you performed in there...:) I'm in a summer production of Guys and Dolls right now as Mimi the Hot Box Dancer and wanted to let you know that you'll be doing a pretty fun show, at least in my opinion.

We're doing High School Musical next year, if we get the rights for it...everyone on our thespian board except me is not happy. I, however, choose to look on the positive side...we may actually be able to fill our auditorium with this show and our director wants to make it as good as possible, given the material, so she's willing to invest in things like having someone outside of the school choreograph it. If we don't do High School Musical, we will either do Anything Goes, which I've listened to and really like, or Honk!, about which I know nothing.

Well I'm doing double duty this year...

In the fall a friend and I are directing a small studio production. This was supposed to be in the Spring, but was moved. our choices include:
- Once on this Island
- By Jeeves
- Cocoanuts (Berlin)
- Working
- Celebration

We had hoped to consider Little Shop or Man of La Mancha, but the school administration scrapped both of those as too expensive.

Than in the winter we are doing a "major musical". The PAD is up in arms as to what show it should be but some thoughts are:
- Les Miserables (Perfect role for me)
- Once Upon a Mattress (A Show I'd love to be involved in in any way, no "good" spot for me there however)
- Chicago (Which should never be done in a High School)
- Beauty & The Beast (although it's basically been scrapped)
- The Secret Garden (Likely to go by the wasteside, the Choral teacher hates it)
- Fiddler on the Roof (To serve as a star vehicle for a departing senior who never has had a lead)
among others...

I'm happy because I got to have my "swan song" this past year playing Emile in South Pacific, so if there's nothing for me this year I'm fine with chorus or playing in the pit.

before i complain, i need to explain that my college has no musical theatre program nor any classes of musical theatre, yet, we are doing a Gilbert and Sullivan show. Someone explain that to me.

well we finished beauty and the besat and dit went really well, except for the stupid rose. it cost $800 and it didn't work about 90% of the time!!!! i am a little sad about our next show (and then there were none) and we're double casting, but it's still only 22 total. last year we did inherit the wind, and that was a cast of 34, so it's slightly depressing to go less. but 11 is standard for a play. does anyone have a bigger show? by the way, guys and dolls is a great show if you have good guys and great dancers. we did it last year and we sold out all three nights!

i second that thank god. golly gee. what is it with our school and ridiculous blockbuster shows? can we get a SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, ANYONE?!?!?!?!

we're currently doing the first school edition of Miss Saigon. Should be interesting, with a dang helicopter. hm.

WSS. It was pre-cast. So I don't think I'll be in it at all. Boo.

Last year we did one musical, Ragtime, and had a cast of 90 people. Biggest. Cast. Ever. It was incredible, and a great way to end my freshman year.

This year we have already done two musicals, Seussical and Assassiains, I was mayor in Seuss, and then the two spring musicals we are doing are High School Musical (bleq) and Little Women. Our director cast it so everyone was in one or the other but not both, except the senior guys. So I'm in Little Women, but we haven't done that yet.

We won't find out our entire seasons until summer, but we know our summer show is gonna be Crucible and we are going to take it to Salem and perform in Oct of next year.

So the only real complaints with the musicals are high school musical. Our director said she wanted to Oklahoma, but she says she wants to do a bunch of shows and just can't make up her mind for the most part.

I totally forgot, what I REALLY want to do is Little Women the musical and I've actually been convincing people in my drama department what a good idea it would be and how great the music is for it. And I should get a LITTLE bit of pull as I'm slated to be the next president of the drama council at my school... but I'm still concerned for High School Musical

My director told me it was going to be Bye Bye Birdie next year, which is okay, but I'm not really all that familiar with it, but I don't care about what show we're doing until my senior year when I'll actually be considered for a lead part because there is MAJOR seniority at our school. And hopefully by then we'll stop doing the musical with the other major school in town, because our school doesn't have an auditorium, and there's does. But we do the spring play(this year Our Town, I'm Rebecca) in our louisy gym where we do choir concerts on a portable stage. But if we do split we'l do our musical in our nice city auditorium, which might be adequite for Les Mis!
