Congrats, Allie. I'm glad you had such a good run. It's exciting that Company is a possible contender for next year.
Awesome Allie! I'm glad things went so well!
Yay, Allie! I'm glad it went well.
Tink - this was the first time I'd been in an opera house since I was twelve, so it was the first time I'd seen a real opera in a while. The other one I'd seen was very serious and not in English, so the experiences were pretty different anyway. It's such a fun show, though -- and no, doesn't really feel much like an opera. I didn't even realize that yesterday was the final performance!
Congrats on wrapping up the show, Allie!
My laptop's been all screwy the past few days, so jumping back a bit- Taylor was the first Amneris I saw, and not knowing anything about the show, I really liked her at the time. In fact, I think I was more excited that we were seeing an 80's pop star rather than the show itself. I do remember thinking she looked a little old (not really enough to distract me, though). I wonder what I would have thought now. Did anyone else see her? I'd be interested to hear what you thought.

... she was an 80s pop star? I had no idea. I've seen a video with her, but I almost feel it's unfair to judge from that considering not only is it a video, but the sound quality was horrible. From what I could tell, I didn't think her vocal range and tone suited Amneris too well, and I didn't observe too much in the way of acting either. She really could have been a lot better live, though.
PS, Jenna, Friday night was so much fun!
Haha, that's why I asked. I'm sure she wasn't as good as I thought at the time, and I had nothing to judge her against. She sang that song "Tell it to my Heart", which is probably on those awfully bad song shows now.
I had fun, too! So much fun that, at some point in the night, I lost a shoe? Thankfully not the ones I was wearing. Oh well.
Hi, gals!
Just had to pop in to share my excitement with people who understand my broadway love. :)
My 3 friends and I went to NYC this weekend to see Mary Poppins and had SO much fun. The Mary role isn't necessarily a fantastic one, but the Bert role is just awesome, and Gavin did a great job. They were collecting for BCEFA and sold a few onstage/backstage tours right after the show for $250 so the four of us pooled our remaining money and did that. We got to see a lot of cool stuff and met both kids that were on llast night and also go to talk to Gavin. The asst. stage manager who was with us was great too.
SO MUCH FUN! :) If you haven't seen it, it's worth it. I was never a big fan of the movice but there's lots of fun visual effects. My non-broadway obsessed friends went to see Wicked with me in Feb. when it was on tour here, and all 3 of them preferred Mary Poppins to Wicked.
Ok, I'll stop gushing now. :)

"I dont care if you're the champion, no one messes with me...."
see, if THEY were in brokeback mountain maybe it wouldnt have irked me so much as a film.
actually, I take that back. That movie wasn't hot enough for them.
But a musical version could be, provided that it included gratuitous nudity.
Well, the movie was hardly about being "hot," and if that's what you were looking for then you were barking up the wrong tree, but that's another discussion. I'm not a movie person at all, but I loved the film and was really moved by it for a lot of reasons -- but I can have fun making light of it, too.
There was talk of a musical, and Playbill.com had some sort of poll for who you would cast. I totally voted. I also put way too much time into deciding which of the two should get which part. Y'know, "gun's goin' off!" line from the short story and all.
Was it really that hard to decide which was which?
Actually, wasn't Michael Arden composing a musical that was pretty similar in content to Brokeback Mountain? Not with the cowboy part, though.
I remember it saying that he was asked to compose Brokeback the musical, and that whatever he had so far was stylistically similar to Easter Rising.
And YES IT WAS. I mean, okay, I had a pretty easy time figuring out who was best for Ennis and who was best for Jack. But, you know. That.

I definetly wasnt looking to see a hot movie when I saw Brokeback, but I was expecting much more, and was very disappointed.

**tear** you make me so proud!

haha.
I never really got into the whole cowboy thing, idk why
I feel like nudity in that context can probably only be categorized as gratuitious. The time I saw Raúl naked was definitely nooot gratuitious nudity at all.
When I first heard they were making this "gay cowboy movie," I thought it was going to be like, a happy love story -- you know, they ride off into the sunset. I obviously did not get what I bargained for. I felt like someone ripped my stomach out after I saw it. By no means a perfect film, though.
Yes, Em, I know.
Heh, I try. I think I'm just having a hormonal day or something.
I just like saying that I've seen him naked.
And psh, leave me alone, I'm having a rough weekend, and I need the little silly things to make me smile.
When did Raul get naked??

when did you see him naked?
yeah all the ppl I know who are like "brokeback mountain...swoon" im like how do you romanticize a movie like that? my neighbor said she cried for 48 hours after she saw it.
That picture. *giggles*
