re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Someone should make a t-shirt saying "I survived the Rent stagedoor," or something like that. I'm glad you didn't get hurt, Ariella. Does anyone else think the problem could be that a lot of people going to the show right now are not regular theatergoers, but fans of the movie who seldom get an opportunity to meet actors?

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Brina, your new avatar makes me want to bake. But I need to refrain until at least my Halloween cake.

it really shouldn't usurp the show for highlight of the evening. We're there to see Adam and Anthony in the SHOW, right?

you are correct. At this point my mentality is that I've been lucky to see them both in Rent, and it's been a once in a lifetime opportunity. If I'm lucky I can maybe meet Adam at one of his shows this year, if he tours in NY. It's been a privilege to see the show, that should be enough. And frankly, I'm willing to bet that if there were less people at the stagedoor and people acted with a modicum of civility, that he would come out and sign and pose for pictures and all that. But no one can expect much after the way people have been acting.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Not even limited to movie fans, though -- just people who have never had the opportunity to meet them before. And I understand that it's nothing to take for granted, but at the same time, if you want so badly to meet them, why on Earth would you do something to jeopardize that opportunity? I will never understand why people seem to think these completely absurd, outrageous manners of behavior will actually get them what they want. When I went to the Goyband shoot, Adam saw me and gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. I got a lot of weird looks, and some girls stopped me and were kind of like, "... how did you...?" My first instinct was to respond with something like, "um, maybe it's because I treat him like a human being and don't scream my head off."

"he kissed me! he kissed me! ahhhhhhhhhh!"

You should tell these crazy fans that story. It's like "if you act sanely, Adam will give you a kiss on the cheek" hehe. Obviously not, because then they'd be 10000 times worse than they are already

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

I think some of these people think that doing outrageous things will get them attention from the actors. They don't understand that it's only negative attention. Running down the street after someone only makes them want to avoid them more. It's something I'll just never understand. Maybe it's because I'm usually so softspoken around actors, but I don't get the people that run up to actors saying I LOVE YOU and waving photoshopped wedding pictures in their faces. I wonder if these girls think that this will actually make Adam or Anthony *want* to spend extra time talking to them.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Exactly. It'll get them attention, but probably not the kind you want. And you can get attention by behaving like a sane individual, too. I mean, it's certainly not that he just wandered up to me, went, "oh, you look like a sweet kid," and hugged me -- he knows I've been a big supporter of his work for a long time -- but treating actors like the normal people that they are (even if it takes a while to get there, heh!) has enormous pay-offs.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

That's just creepy.

I'm very soft-spoken around actors (and people in general), but even if I was not I can't imagine doing something like that just for attention.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

I mean, I know we've talked about this before, but I don't see how these girls can possibly think that these things are ok to do. It's not just about having respect for the actors but have some self respect, too.

I'm glad you had a good time on your trip, Ariella! I was thinking of you when we were talking about people who traveled across the country to see them on one night and hoped he wouldn't be out for you!

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Thanks, Jenna. I admit, a lot hinged on Adam and Anthony being on last night. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13! We were in NY for some family stuff also, but my motivations definitely lay elsewhere.

I wish people could find a way to put the stagedoor in perspective. I concur that talking to Adam and getting a hug (he gives good ones!) are incredibly thrilling, but for the most part it seems like people want these things because they're engaged in a strange competition. Like, so they can go onto myspace and spread the word. I very much understand wanting to speak to a performer for whom you have immense respect, but the results are better if you actually demonstrate that respect. I had a similar experience in L.A., Em - Adam hugged me, and a girl demanded to know "how I did it."

I still can't believe what I saw up on that stage, though. I'm still trying to get my head around it re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

lol, "How I did it" - that reminds me of the book he finds in Young Frankenstein.

I agree about the myspace thing tho, it's like the actual event is secondary to the ability to talk about it via facebook, myspace, here, and the like.

Nice to know that Adam gives good hugs re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Seriously! You'd think someone pulled a bunny out of a hat. "How'd you do that?!" In my head, I'm usually like, "... I don't know how to talk to you." But yeah. That's like when people ask actors to kiss them or something -- why, so you can go post on MySpace that Adam Pascal kissed your cheek? There's nothing substantive about the gesture, so it comes across as being really competitive. I mean, that night with Raul, sure, I was all giddy because... it was Raul, but at the same time, stunned because it was like "... hey, you showed affection!"

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

I think it's funny how people will post that they met Adam or Anthony at the stage door. But really, you just had your playbill signed by them. This situation does stink for people who were looking for this as an opportunity to really get a chance to talk to them, though, because it won't be happening with all the chaos.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

I'm pretty sure that picture is a screencap I did from mesmerized's video of Adam talking about how he's finally decided he's not really a heavy metal rocker. Great title, skittles.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Oh dear. Crazies are on the loose again in NYC! Poor Adam! I wonder if this crowd craziness is definitely making him second guess coming back to broadway ever, lol.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

you know, i don't know that it would be the same if he were to do another broadway show. i think most people are going nuts because he has said that he probably won't so they are thinking this is their last opportunity to see/meet him on broadway. if he were to come back, i think more people would be like oh ok, i have plenty of time/opportunities to meet him

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

I was thinking about that too, polly. People who saw Aida can tell us how the stagedoor was at that show, but from what I've heard, fans were actually able to approach him.

Yeah, someone on this thread posted a similar picture awhile back, but I thought this one was funny too. Good screencap, Chloe re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Right, I'm the one who posted it here. I assume someone copied it and put it on photobucket, since it's exactly the same.

From what I heard, the Aida stagedoor was much, much calmer. I think this situation is a result of the combustive combination of Adam and Anthony's almost legendary identification with Rent, the unexpectedness of their return, and the movie. Despite the movie being considered a failure, it has some really big fans. I'm not sure people think that Adam isn't ever coming back to Broadway, and if he were in a different show, I don't think there would be this kind of stagedoor situation.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Gotcha. I thought there was a higher quality version floating around somewhere too. Either way, it's just funny re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

Yeah, I mean Adam's solo shows arent this crazy, and neither are Anthony's book signings. It has to be that combination of factors that you just mentioned, and some people expected that it would get this out of control. And I agree about the movie - leaving the problems aside, it definitely created a new group of fans.

I wonder if Adam will ever do another Broadway show

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

The AIDA stage door didn't get even remotely crazy until the very end. And even at the end, it was very calm and orderly. Closing night was sort of out-of-control, but nothing like this.

I don't even think it's that he's "never" coming back to Broadway -- because it's not like he said he's not. He just talked about why it's difficult. But I have to wonder if that's even what's on most of these kids' minds. I don't think it's the idea of "OMG, he's never coming back, this is my only chance to meet him!" I'm not really sure that's what's going through their heads. I think it's a lot of "OMGADAMSOHOTILOVEYOUIWANTYOURBABIES!!!" -- and like Chloe said, the fact that it's the two of them in THIS show. It's the legendary, iconic status -- the combination of loving these people AND the wild devotion to the show. It's a bit of a combustible situation. Honestly, more than I see thinking this is some last chance (how many times have we thought that?), I see a usual teenybopper mentality gone wild because... well, these are RENT fans. Notoriously obnoxious, crazy, obsessive... pick your term. It's not a fanbase that's often associated with flattering terms. For good reason.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, Part 13!

It would be very hard for Adam to do another Broadway show. But he is doing that "Broadway State of Mind" tour. I wonder when the dates will be released for that.
