re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

The whole Broadway fan community is so different because the fans CARE. They're invested.

Right. And the feedback within the community is very direct. You can't just march in and do something and expect people to bow down to you for it. Because of the accessibility of everything, it's a very vocal, involved, invested community. For better and for worse. It's not a community where a little tidbit of information is going to automatically put you "in charge" of your peers, and I think this operation is really disrespectful to that. There's no reason for a fan-turned-official to be treating OTHER FANS like idiots. I understand that when you're dealing with such an active, involved fanbase, a manager would want to be liked and respected by the fans -- but this is not the way to go about achieving that. The fact that it's so secretive, I'm sorry, is very, "I have access to this and I'm doing all this cool stuff and you're not!! I know more than you!" But, Cheryl, since you marched in here a few months ago, seemingly expecting to get this lauded status because you fly across the country, you made no effort to get to know any of us. Instead, you proceeded to treat us like you'd treat the idiots on MySpace who WILL bow down to you as a source. And because UNTIL you were desperate for a neutral subject change, you didn't make an effort to get to know us, you must remember that you know very little about who you're talking to.

And no, I'm not talking about who's been a fan for how long. Before that card gets played.

I'm sure you'll read that the completely wrong way, but I take comfort in knowing that everybody else will know what I mean.

I agree. Cheryl, you've so long accused us of "hierarchal" behavior here. I'd argue that any alienation you've felt are a product of the friendships and connections already developed here - because we've taken the time to get to know each other. You've made no effort to do so, and I don't think you're justified to complain. There are so many devoted fans on this board, and no one appreciates condescension. One's status as a fan is not measured by the number of times they've seen Adam, or the amount of money they've spent doing so.

I don't think that blog makes things any better. It's official? Ok, that's nice. I think we figured that out already. The fact that it is indeed official and the way in which it was introduced to us in the first place still completely puts me off. If anything, it just assures that his management is...not headed in the right direction. Oh well.

And, I can't decide if I think Adam actually read the thread (cause honestly, why would he randomly check in on it and read all of our complaining?) or if someone (ahem) went to him. If it's the latter, that's kind of pathetic.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

oh dear, lol. My thoughts and feelings on the subject area a nice mixture of all previous stated, no need re hashing. But, in the end, no one is always going to like each other here, there are going to be personal issues/complaints...that is just the nature of the beast. But we are are all supposed to be here with the same purpose. So mind your manners, take personal **** off line or to PM's, and attempt to make this an open atmosphere (and by no means does that mean smile and act like everything is ok, but just handle approrpiatelty. I am probably one of the bitchiest people there is, I just haven't had to show it yet). And for newbies....if there is constantly a debate every week regarding you and/or your actions and you have to defend yourself all the time, take a step back and look at things from a different perspective. yes, people here can be cruel and bitchy (sometimes my favorite qualities in a person) but sometimes they are just being realistic and frank. It may not be "them" or "you", but a problem in the communication. No reason you have to leave or not participate or play a "they all hate" me card. Just work through it and move on.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

The fact that Adam has informed us - in a myspace blog - still doesn't do much for the PR situation. Okay, great, the facebook's real, but it says a lot for the state of his management that this is how it came about.

Oy. I suppose it's safer not to speculate how Adam found out about the "legitimacy crisis." Neither option is that great.

I really don't want to get involved in this too much since i don't know the whole story but in relation to the whole "newbie" thing. I am most definitely a newbie yet I have been accepted with open arms by these lovely people. They have never even called me a newbie for heaven sake. I think there is a communication issue here.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

One of the most basic things about good PR: know. your. audience. Know what they're going to respond to, and how. Think about the way shows are publicized, and how different audience sets are reached. Bottom line. You have to be aware of what's going to get the response you want out of which groups. Talking to people as though you're a minion of the royalty is not the way to get respect out of people who have been following something for this long. Don't treat people who grew up with this guy's work like we don't know anything.

I don't think it's a communication issue so much as an issue of attitude and presentation.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

The fact that Adam addressed the officialness in a blog doesn't mean he reads the thread. It means Cheryl and Connie told Ilana we were suspicious and she made him say something. I said last night to a few people that I knew "Adam" would post a blog about this issue shortly.

I was suspicious about the legitimacy two nights ago because it was so unprofessional. The fact that it is technically endorsed by Adam doesn't change that.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

lexi, i told you that ilana asked me to post that on bww? because i would love to see that exact text that says "Yes, Ilana told me to post this on BWW".

if you want to twist my words fine, so be it. i used the generic term "post it" in my message to you. she never said, "Cheryl I want you to post this on BWW." She told me about the page and people need to go look at it, it's new, it's exciting. What a better place to bring that info than to a thread of Adam fans? I "posted it" on Live journal and MySpace too. So how is any of that blatenly lying to you? Again, if you have an issue with her take it up with her, i'm not the only one in this thread that has access to her. As I know some of you are "friends" with her on myspace/facebook.

... okay. That's probably the worst defense of behavior I've ever read. I never said that you were asked to post it on BWW, but you were asked to generally shill it. Craww already made this point, so I'm not going to reiterate it when you can just read her post (but of course, you'll just ignore it, as is your wont).

Here's the original response that I didn't mention two nights ago out of courtesy, but felt compelled to bring it up when Cheryl decided to lie in my face:

she asked me to pass it on and get the word out there. so yes, it's legit, and no that is not public info that she asked me to post it.

I twisted no one's words. You're twisting your own.

I would have no problem speaking directly to her about how this unprofessional PR campaign of sending you out to shill while offering nothing more than "YOU CAN BELIEVE ME OR NOT!" as your "proof," provided she's interested in hearing my opinion. She hasn't seemed very compelled to reply to my emails in the past.

Oh, and when Adam was informed about our doubts as to whether the page was "official," was he also told about how his pseudo-manager picked someone who can't even adhere to basic rules of grammar to be the PR person? Asking certain fans to shill websites wouldn't even be as much of a problem (albeit still extremely unprofessional) if there wasn't some sort of super secret cult surrounding it. Seriously, why can't he just hire a normal manager?

Additionally, let's not forget how is entire "documentary" was probably just a way for this woman to convince him that she should be his manager - and I stupidly just played into their hands. We're never going to see this on Fuse if that Beautiful Song video was a showcase of this editor's talent... not that was ever the main intention in the first place, I'm realizing. I feel so manipulated, and that's the worst feeling for anyone.

Lastly, I can't imagine that having some of Adam's most supportive fans already angry at his management is going to be great for his career.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

"It means Cheryl and Connie told Ilana we were suspicious and she made him say something."

And this is the thing that has been bothering me the most. Honestly Adam needs a real manager who can set up these websites and due proper promotion; not give them into the hands of a fan who can set up a website lickty-split.

Another thing that Canadian Snowbird brought up is actually meeting the dude. There are a few of us who have never met Adam or been in "contact" with him (like moi). Does this measure how big of a fan you are? No, it really shouldn't. I think being a fan is someone who really can support an artists work and give them healthy criticism as well.

And thirdly since I'm going off on a real b!tch-O-meter, how 'bout this: With the new "fan based management" what is you're purpose? To simply spread the Adam love or to actually help him advance in his career? Ariella and I have both been trying for MONTHS to have Adam play a concert at The Fitzgerald Theatres in downtown St. Paul, MN (if you're reading this Adam go do a google search NOW re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2). But each time we've called the PR guy keeps saying "Nope, we did a google search and everything...never heard of Adam Pascal before." Then I asked him what websites popped up when he did his search, "Just a bunch of fansites, nothing professional that could help us."

...

Now hearing that from the PR worker should be a true slap in the face for Ilana. If she wants her client to be known to the public, she needs to get off her lazy ass and start promoting. End of story.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

Not to mention the fact that Adam needs a real, professional manager that will knowledgeably direct his career, not one that will lurk at message boards and stagedoors, then propose fans' ideas as her own.

I'm sure Ilana will propose a St.Paul concert to Adam any day now. I'd be happy for you guys to see him regardless, but I'd prefer credit where credit is due instead of these underhanded, unprofessional techniques to portray herself as informed.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

I think the issue I have with this situation is that it's being directed by someone who is a fan. I think we've all seen past examples of why people who were fans first don't make the best representatives. When you're working with someone, you need to have a step back, and I don't think anyone who's a fan can really do that.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

Very well said, Brina!

I won't rehash everything that has already been said, but I just wanted to quickly throw my two cents in here. I certainly do not have a problem with the fact that a Facebook, ILike, etc. exist, because it's frankly a good idea. I do take issue with the "promotion" of the sites, just because it's extremely unprofessional. A good manager needs to walk a very fine line with the artist they represent and the fans that they are in direct contact with. Most fans have too much personal involvement to become successful managers, and I feel like this might be the situation here. Just look at "momagers" as an example. Very few are able to separate their personal desires for their children from what is in fact best for their career, in the same way a fan may think they are doing what is best when it in fact, it's not.

I have stated many times before that I feel Adam needs some sort of management to help him out, and I do still feel this way, although the current developments don't fall into the category of management I was talking about. The first step should have been a website. Not a fan run site, a professional site set up by management. I do think that Connie has a great page, but like Brina said, getting a venue to book someone based off of a fan page is difficult. Adam's fans and fans of Broadway actors in general are rather resourceful and savvy. How many people who post here have contacted various theaters, venues, booking agencies, and PR people to get information or try to get Adam booked somewhere? It would be so fantastic for him to have a manager that we would feel comfortable emailing about such issues who could get back to us in a timely manner and directly help out. Adam needs someone who will look out for his best interests, not what will benefit them and a select few personally.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

I'd feel rather slimy if she did that. Not like literally 'slimy' persay; but just the fact that a fan would bring up a complaint about her saintly client she'd be all "Uh-oh, gotta make'm happy!"

I really hope he does come to MN; but not just for a big fan push you know? It seems that Ariella and I have been doing alot of the work that Ilana should be doing; which makes no sense to me. We're not his personal manager, she is.

Thanks Luckystar! I feel kinda shmart now re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

I am so confused right now - I thought Ilana was doing the documentary for FUSE. Since when is she his manager? Did I miss something?
