I don't think it was too much to ask for a decent explanation, instead of a snarky knee-jerk. I don't think it's out of line to want to know who's doing what with the website, and to ask for honesty in that regard. The thing that turns me off most about the blog is that it is the complete opposite from the way he would treat any of us in person. Our thoughtful, calm, level-headed posts are met with the same tone he uses when he speaks to the idiot fans who need to be babysat. (I'm sure within the next ten minutes, we'll get a blog about how no, we ALL need to be babysat because we were
mean.) I'm not angry at him, nor do I want to be, but I am just sort of put-off and annoyed.
That said, given the Big Brother-esque developments, I don't think there's any way to "resolve" this. I mean, what can we do? It's obvious that whoever is making the decisions to lock things on the site to members only (now you have to log in just to READ the blogs) is just planning to shut out what they don't want to hear. I don't like the assumption that shutting out anonymous posts will stop those things they don't want to hear, because it means they're also assuming that those anonymous posts are not coming from a legitimate place, but rather, that they're just being made for the sake of pissing someone off. It's no better than the moron MySpace fans who are posting comment saying, "oh, they're just jackasses who want to stir stuff up," as though we're just trolls who could care less about the actual issues, but want to piss someone off.
I agree with Jenna's post about those fans. Everyone who isn't blindly following something out of sheer ignorance is just mean and stupid. Anyone who disagrees is a nasty bitch. Anything they may not know about didn't happen at all. Frankly, it saddens me that these are the people Adam would obviously prefer to hear from.
Really, really big turn-off, and a step in the very wrong direction. This is not what any of us envisioned all those times we said we wished he had a website, I'm sure. It's turned into nothing more than anything elitist fansite, except this time, the morons are hiding behind the object of affection.
