I hope he recovers soon. This flu season is really bad.

At my school everybody's been sick. The teachers got the flu. Everyone else mostly ended up with strep throat.

There's a huge amount of flu going around my neighborhood too, and I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that I can avoid it. From what I've heard, this year's shots weren't any use against the flu going around now, which is why it's so pervasive. Adam's got the further problem of how often young kids like his get sick, passing it on to their parents.

Yeah, this year's flu shot apparently just... didn't work. I've gotten one almost every year since I was a really little kid, and I've never gotten the flu before this year.

You've had great luck avoiding the flu up to now. It really knocks people out for several days. I've never taken those shots myself, since anyone my age tends to have some resistance already. I haven't gotten it very much for quite a while.

Moving on, I don't know why people over on the main message board are criticizing Adam for having some sort of bodygard at his shows. It only makes sense considering how fans have sometimes been rather aggressive, to the point of almost knocking him over. It doesn't matter if most of them are no problem, because it only takes a handful to make trouble.

Yeah, I have been, considering that some people still do get it after immunization. Sometimes I feel a little blah for a day or two after the shot, but that never lasts long, and it's not legitimately sick. But with this, I was completely out of commission for a full week, and I'm just getting back to things now, starting very slowly. I missed a lot of classes. I've never thought it was weird that he has security at his shows, but that's because the only time I've ever seen it was with regard to getting him out of the building and to his car. I do think that having people stationed to make sure nobody rushes the stage is a little excessive, though. The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14, version 2.0

So the bodyguard is doing that now? Maybe Adam's been getting some kind of threat from someone. You never know. I remember hearing there was a nut like that for quite a while when he was in Aida.

Wow, a whole week. The flu this year is really bad. Try to take it a little easy on yourself for a while and get your strength back.

I got the flu shot this year, and I seem to have caught a pretty bad bug too. Yuck.

The usher thing could just be something written into the booking company's contract. If he is requesting that, especially considering the recent venues and relaxed atmosphere of his concerts, it does seem a little extreme. Maybe it's more of a "better safe than sorry" type of thing, but fangirl squealing aside, I've never witnessed anything close to stage rushing at any of his shows. And hasn't he always had a bodyguard walk him in/out of the building? I don't think that's out of the ordinary.

Moving on, I don't know why people over on the main message board are criticizing Adam for having some sort of bodygard at his shows.

The discussion wasn't about having a bodyguard at the shows. Adam had that no-neck security guard for awhile to escort him to his car or with him at the stagedoor. That's understandable. The issue was that Adam's contract required (in addition to the bodyguard) that ushers blockade the stage, which I think everyone can agree is excessive.

I also don't think we can assume it's due to some sort of specific, ongoing threat of stalkers. If it's already been dropped from the contract, it couldn't have been that serious of a problem. It's just odd that something like that would be included in the first place for any performer short of Miley Cyrus status.

Re the flu: I haven't had it when I've gotten the flu shot, but I did get it a few years ago and was sick for a week.

Re Adam: I can see them protecting the instruments when he's not there, but the ushers protecting him during the show *is* a bit excessive.

It may feel excessive, but we don't really know why he chose to do it, whether it has to do with some kind of threat or just his phobia against big, crazy crowds. What does it matter, really, as long as it makes him feel more comfortable doing his shows?

I've been seeing lately how critical some of you have been, and it's okay if that's how you feel, but my feelings are different. I know Adam has made lots of mistakes, whether it was his initial impulse not to go back to theater work, or how long it took him to loosen up on stage in Aida, or maybe moving to LA. It doesn't matter to me. Making mistakes is part of finding one's way and moving forward, and anyone who appears never to make them is either going nowhere or carefully hiding them.

Adam has always been very straightforward about his mistakes and changes in ideas, and although he usually appears very upbeat in public, he's also made it clear that he has a dark, negative side to his personality that's a big problem. I'm thinking especially of what he said about Anthony Rapp being so great because of how positive he is, and the opposite of Adam in many ways.

So, Adam has plenty of problems and has made plenty of mistakes, and that side of him is probably inextricable from his great qualities as a performer. It doesn't matter to me, because I enjoy seeing him so much, and have no illusions that there is anyone who is entirely without a negative side.

Hm. So the tour is official. Wow, I didn't expect that, but I'm glad that those outside the NY area will be able to see Adam and Anthony. Every fan of the show deserves to see that The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14, version 2.0

20th anniversary? Rent's not that old yet!

So I guess the tour's official? I'm still not sure how I feel about the tour, but I'm sure the people who couldn't make it to New York are happy, and I'm happy for them.
