re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

i kept going back to the "i'm perfect" thing because honestly i've felt hostility since i joined this thread.

and more than once members of this thread of called other fans mediocre fans based on something they did.

yes, OS i agree that someone can be a fairweather fan, and may come and go when it comes to an artist, i know i am that way with say DMB, loved their old stuff, not a big fan of their new stuff, but i don't think that makes me less of a fan because i don't like it.

i just think before any of us call ourselves true fans or more loyal fans we need to be sure we are not being hypocritical. as was also said, what constitutes a real fan? someone who goes to a ton of shows and buys all the albums? because i've been called out for saying i'm excited to go to 6 adam shows and had many of you say that the more shows you go to the more bored you are. so does that make you any less of a fan? no, not in my opinon. and it doesn't make me any more of a fan because i am going to 6 shows and have all the albums.

i just believe people shouldn't talk out of both sides of their mouth.

i agree that for the most part everyone here is on the same page and that's why the group functions so well. as it should be, since we are all here to talk about a common intrest.

everyone also needs to remember that tone cannot be determined in a message board, so although you may think what you are saying is not rude or sarcastic, it may come across that way to other readers.

I don't know what all of you people are talking about, I'm perfect in every way.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

Well, no one would question your perfectness Tink.

Cheryl, I guess I'm a little confused with your comment because this conversation, at least IMO, hasn't hit hypocrisy. We aren't saying we're his best fans ever, and I don't think anyone here cares to try and claim that title. We're also not saying that any of the fans that posted those comments are horrible people/fans. Like I said, it's personal opinions that have been posted about what we ourselves are comfortable writing/reading. I also don't believe any of us have the intentions of crossing that line into hypocrisy, so your warning to us comes off a bit unnecessary. I'm sorry if you have been made to feel uncomfortable on this thread, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the way this conversation has turned out.

The last time we discussed this it left people feeling hurt and there was tension between people who normally got along quite well. I'm really glad that this has turned out the way it has, and I think I now know what Lexi and Skittles were trying to voice the last time the "other fans" were brought up.

and just for the record - we bitch just as much about each other as we do about the "other fans". We are equal opportunity bitchers.

i'm not saying that anyone has claimed that title, but when things are said like "mediocre fans", etc. it implies that the person making that comment is better than those they are commenting about.

I also don't believe any of us have the intentions of crossing that line into hypocrisy, so your warning to us comes off a bit unnecessary.

i honestly don't know any of you well enough to know your intentions, so this was not so much a warning as just a simple observation. i have seen conversations here where in one breath it is said that we love adam, we love the music, etc. and then the next post saying his shows are boring, he shouldn't have made that decision, etc. i'm not quoting specifics because it's not important who said what, it's that back and forth that can appear to be hypocritical.

The last time we discussed this it left people feeling hurt and there was tension between people who normally got along quite well. I'm really glad that this has turned out the way it has, and I think I now know what Lexi and Skittles were trying to voice the last time the "other fans" were brought up.

this is just my point... there shouldn't be "other fans". i know that i was not around for this conversation so unless someone wants to fill me in (if so please do it in a private message), i can only take that to mean fans who post on adam's myspace vs. here. maybe i am taking that the wrong way, but what makes them "other fans" they're fans, regardless of if they are here or not.

and just for the record - we bitch just as much about each other as we do about the "other fans". We are equal opportunity bitchers.

You can still love and respect someone and criticize them. It's honest personal opinion, at times even constructive criticism, and there's nothing wrong with that. Even Adam has admitted that he shouldn't have done some things. I think it's good to put those you love in a realistic view, rather than up on a pedestal. Everybody has their faults-no one's perfect. This includes Adam.

Well Tink, I think that's a given. You're not included in the same category as everyone else :P

Cheryl there are other fans. They do not post here they post on other sites. So by other fans, I meant fans who do not post here.

i understand that, and i would never assume that adam is perfect, as i said before no one is.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

GG isn't just talking about Adam being perfect or not. It's perfectly all right to be a discerning fan - in fact I would consider such perspective to be a good thing. Possessing enthusiasm for Adam's work is great, but no one is required to fully endorse/fully applaud anything and everything he does. It certainly doesn't make one "less" of a fan to express respectful or constructive criticism (obviously, clothing and hair comments are of a different category). I don't think one can have a nuanced perspective on any performer, Adam included, if they were to blindly support his every move without reason or simply because "he's Adam."
#1463

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

Exactly. It's almost like if you wanted to give a friend or family member constructive criticism to help them in the future. We're not being mean towards Adam, just expressing opinion and criticism.

As I already posted, I only said something about "mediocre fans" because this person on MySpace said they were Adam's "best fans"- which blatantly claims that the person believes they are better than other Adam fans. If you have a problem with the classification of fans, take it up with the poster Journal Entry #42410 on MySpace instead of continuing to blame me for reacting to it.

People say his shows are boring because we've all seen the exact same show multiple times- same setlist, same jokes, same shirts. You haven't even seen it once yet. Maybe after you see the concert a few times, you'll be getting antsy for new material as well, but you're not yet in a position to judge our reactions as being hypocritical.

By the way, that person posted again on his MySpace. Apparently one of those MySpaces added her little sister and she didn't like that they were talking about that stuff if they were adding children.

One odd thing I noticed about the linked CD: It says "some songs on the CD" and proceeds to list all of them.

OS i'm not blaming you for reacting to it. i'm commenting on the general feeling i get from people here.

trust me i am not saying that i am w/o fault in any of this, these are just my opinions.

i had come to this thread to find other fans of adam to talk to. and i instead have found hostility from members of this thread. that makes me sad. it makes me sad that i feel like i can't post here anymore because every time i do the s**t flies.

i'm tired of defending myself here and why i said things i did or feel the way i feel.

They've had an autographed version of Civilian available for awhile at the sh-k-boom store, havent they? It's nice that they're offering it through Broadway Cares, too

I'm mad that I missed the Titanic specials on the History Channel. I just turned it on when I got home and it was something on the history of sugar, so I guess it's over re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

I could understand your initial hesitation on this thread, as I think a lot of us were a bit intimidated when we first joined. I think most of us got chewed out a time or two in the beginning too. But that is on a lot of threads here, not just the AP thread. But you just start dishing it back out, and harmony is restored in a way. Just like you have things you don't like about some of us (not me, of course, as I am perfect), people are going to challenge some of your traits. That doesn't mean you are not welcome or anything. There are certain topics that will ALWAYS bring up arguments, so you either engage in the discussion time and time again, or just ignore it and let it pass.

Damn, someone really needs to just create a AP Love Thread FAQ or something. We seem to go through this often (not said in a bad way, per say, just a general observation). lol.

I came home hoping that the Titanic specials would still be on, but they weren't anymore. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

I think this Adam board has the unfortunate reputation of being the "elitist" board with people who don't really know it, which was part of the reason I didn't want to post here to begin with. I think it comes with a lot of people here being well informed and long time fans, not with their bitchy or hostile attitudes. Coming into a tight knit group of people, especially realizing that people know each other outside the boards, is really intimidating. We all have different opinions on things, but it makes for really good debates sometimes. Sure, we talk ourselves in circles about the same things over and over, but we wouldn't be arguing about it so much if it wasn't something we all cared about.

re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part 14 v. 2

lstbutifulgrl2, I'm sorry, but you have got to be kidding me. How can you, just after making a post about how there shouldn't be considered "levels" of fandom, make a post suggesting that if you do x, y, or z, you're somehow not a true fan?

Not to mention that you completely contradicted yourself about five times. There's no such thing as mediocrity in fandom. We shouldn't measure. But if you loved someone, or his work, you wouldn't criticize him. And then back to this "___ doesn't make me [editorial] less of a fan" business? Seriously? After just saying that there are things in your opinion that make you less of a fan? Your posts on the past two pages are a one-woman debate in and of themselves.

People who get to know me very quickly learn that I am, and always have been, most critical of the people whose work I love the most. I have high standards for the people who I know can achieve them. So to insinuate that being critical means someone doesn't "love" an actor as much as someone who's engaged in complete blind adoration is not only unfair -- it's wrong. I know your comments are generic, but on my own personal level -- you don't know me, don't judge me.
A work of art is an invitation to love.
