I don't think Tamyra's terrible. She's not my favorite Mimi-Jaime Kirchner is-but she's still good. Better in the second act, in my opinion.

Hmm, I didn't think Tamyra butchered the role. I really liked her voice- her acting wasn't the best. I just didn't see much believable chemistry between her and Adam, except for maybe their last night.

Exactly. I wasn't defending her either, but it was just one of those situations where they were both good, just lacking in chemistry. It was too bad, really. I don't know, I wasn't that pleased with the current cast overall.

Chaste is the perfect way to describe it too - it seems more than one person has chosen that word

I didn't think he looked bad in Aida, but I can understand those who do, especially after his Rent OBC days. But I didn't think he was a bro candidate, not at all.

maybe butchered was a harsh word. i just don't enjoy her mimi at all. i think she is incredibly talented, but she just doesn't do it for me as mimi.

It wasn't the manboobs that got me as much as the chest hair. I was scared at the time.

Adam and Heather made my shy 13 year old self feel very uncomfortable. I remember thinking "I don't think I'm allowed to watch this kind of stuff" during Elaborate Lives. Surprising since I didn't understand what that scene implied until years later.

eta-- He does look really thin right now. Not unhealthy, just really skinny.

I felt the same way Jenna, and I saw it this past year (obviously not live). I was very shocked by it, I thought it was an innocent children's show.

Me too! I figured this was like, Beauty and the Beast level. I was so surprised when the opened that scene after Elaborate Lives - while simultaneously kicking myself for never seeing it live...

Cheryl - his arms never really appear to be skinny, even when he loses weight. They always seem to be screaming for a wifebeater to showcase their... appeal

It was quite worthy of appreciation. I think he got a little too heavy at one point during the Aida years, but I do like the way a few extra pounds softened his face early on.

I remember getting the Aida recording because I heard Adam was on it. The first time i listened to it, i was like wtf is this???? But eventually it grew on me SOO much, I love it. Yes, silly lyrics, too many ballads, etc. but I still love every minute, hehe.

But you haven't even listened to all of it yet! You can't really say you didn't get into something if you didn't give it a chance. It's... very Elton in the sense that the score to The Lion King is. You can hear moments of him weaving in and out, but it's not like listening to one of his albums. It totally sounds like a theater score. I don't think you necessarily listen to Aida and go "oh, Elton John!"

i remember listening to the soundtrack when it first opened and just couldn't do it, and i've tried over the years.

i just bought it again today on iTunes so i'll listen more this week when i'm studying and at grad school.

Speaking of Aida, someone posted a video on the site that can sometimes be metioned of Adam and Heather singing Written in the Stars at some awards show in '01. I've never heard of or seen this before. He looks good in it, though.

the only time that I really heard Elton in the recording is Another Pyramid. Otherwise, you wouldn't really know just by hearing it, unless you are very familiar with his work and maybe hear nuances that a more amateur listener wouldn't pick up

I would say that in general it's not typical of what he writes for himself, but his gift for writing melodies that stick in your brain is there, as well as the way he harmonizes. His harmonies and modulations can be striking because he makes subtle changes in the standard ones we're all used to hearing.
