re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part nine

For real. It's from a Q&A from her website, I think... or a fansite.

Anyway, here's her full answer to the question, "If you were going to be in an opera, what would dream role be?"

"I would be most excited to play Musetta in Carmen. I have loved the aria Quando Men Vo since I was 7 at the Met. It was one of the first operas I was part of. Musetta is a very flirty, feisty, sexy young woman. In the aria Quando Men Vo, Musetta is addressing her ex-boyfriend, who she sees out at a busy café. She is taunting him and saying that he must kicking himself for breaking up with her because she is so beautiful and sexy and everyone on the street can't take their eyes off her. She is creating quite a scene in this café with her new boyfriend, and strutting up and down the street in front of her ex. In the Met's Zefferelli production, Musetta is wearing a gorgeous pink dress and is so flirty and cute, lifting her skirt above her head to reveal her petticoats. The moment is so iconic on stage because she is only thing moving and colorful on stage, the entire chorus and rest stage "freezes" and doesn't move for the entire aria and it's one of the most beautiful things to watch, her pink silouette moving across and stage with such life and feistiness. The aria is so beautiful and I just remember thinking that Musetta was (and is) the complete opposite of me, but that it would so much fun to play her."

I despise Emmy Rossum.
"Nothing's lost forever. In this world, there is a kind of painful progress. Longing for what we've left behind, and dreaming ahead."

:-/ I like her, but uhh...oy.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

But still...Boheme and Carmen are quite a bit different, especially for those who've either a)studied, or b) been in.

I've never been all that impressed with her...had her big debut been something other than the Phantom movie (winces at the thought), I might feel otherwise. The world will never know...

How do you "take classes at" a college without going to it? Especially a place like Columbia.

I have De-lovely stuck in my head.

This is why movie stars make me mad.

I dunno. It sounds more "prestigious?" ie -- I live in a gabillion dollar apartment in wherever NYC, but I take classes at one of the country's top schools?

I just had to comment on that Emmy Rossum interview...

I can't believe it. Musetta being from Carmen? CARMEN?? Really, how ignorant can you be? Plus, her entire response (if it's real) makes her sound like a moron. "Musetta is wearing a gorgeous pink dress and is so flirty and cute"! Ugh!

Sorry, just felt like a little rant.

I haven't seen the movie, but I saw Anything Goes last night. That's the version I have stuck in my head. The girl playing Hope...wasn't the best singer, so I have her weak and shaky version stuck in my head instead of the original.

All I know of La Traviata, I learned from Queer as Folk. Is that bad?

I dunno, Em... if I was a rich movie star and could just take a few courses I was really interested in, in New York City, I would do it in an INSTANT.

I know, I'm just making fun of the wording. Like, a friend of mine was SUPPOSED to interview her for the university paper, and she was apparently playing hard to get with dates and things, but it was all because she didn't ATTEND the university, she only takes classes here. So we had a laugh at the life of the untouchable.

When young actors and actresses go to a prestigious school, it usually comes up in interviews and such. I don't remember ever hearing that Emmy Rossum goes to Columbia. So, if she actually does take classes here without actually applying and being admitted, I think that's not right.

I think it's so under the radar and ambiguous because her career requires her to do so much travelling. Or, at least at the time this was all happening -- her movies just happened to all be filmed internationally.

Skittles, you should check out De-Lovely. It's one of my favourites. Robbie Williams sings the title song. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part nine It's a wonderful soundtrack - Elivs Costello, Diana Krall, Sheryl Crow, John Barrowman, Alanis Morrisette, and Natalie Cole, plus a few more. And Kevin Kline is fantastic!

But it is possible for someone to actually do it, with the travelling and all. It just may take a while. IE: Julia Stiles.
