Lexi, you sound like the shopping type, clearly, so I would say try to save some of that money so you can indulge in dorm room stuff. Dorm room shopping is a lot of fun - I'm really into decorating and making my room homey.
I have shopping problems too. I buy stupid things too. I'll spend like $50 on underwear from victorias secret, or 50 on memorbilia. Or I'll go to the mall, not decide what I want, get hungry and spend 20 on food.
Em, I bought Rice Krispie Treats from the store earlier. I refuse admit how many I've eaten already, but homemade is always better.

I don't really have a shopping problem, except if I go on Ebay, or go to a bookstore. I always spend WAY too much money at Barnes and Noble.
I loveeee rice kripsies. (And for once, I'm actually online when Anthony posted).
I think my best shopping story is from when I took my mom to see RENT last month. About an hour before the show, we decided to go to Virgin Megastore just to use the bathroom so we wouldn't have to wait on line at the theater. $100 worth of CDs later...
Rice Krispie Treats were one of those things I liked when I was little but lost the taste for because I couldn't eat stuff like that for so many years thanks to braces and other orthodontic devices.
I don't like Rice Krispies. But I can sit and eat the whole container of white powdered doughnuts if I don't stop myself. Thank god for my fast metabolism.
I like chocolate donuts better. Oo my chinese food is here, be back later, byee<3
I have to eat home made ones because the store ones have milk in them.
I am trying to control my shopping problem as well. I have found that if I head towards Target I can come out with lots of stuff, all different kinds of things, a full cart, and not quite as empty of a wallet. I love Target!

Thanks for the advice, Fantab. I just have problems thinking into the future when it comes to shopping. Ugh.
BG, I just looked at everything I bought and I ended up with three pairs of earrings, a necklace, two bracelets, a pair of jeans, a pair of sweatpants (I didn't even look at the price before buyng them -- they were $68!), two camisoles, and two pairs of cargo pants. I DO NOT NEED THIS STUFF. I feel so pathetic.
Em, you're allergic to dairy? That really sucks.
If you're going to do your dorm shopping once you get here, I have many recommendations
I am, SD. It's not that bad.
I loved dorm shopping.
I loved dorm/house shopping. My parents, however did not. I won't get to do it this summer though as I'm moving back home. Maybe my mom will let me paint my room again.
I painted my room like a year and a half before I left. So, I miss it.
I looked at one school that lets you paint your dorm.
I painted last summer, I love not living on campus. Ok, I'm off for food now, talk to you later.
Lexi, replace the jewelry and the $68 sweatpants with a few pairs of jeans and a couple of books, and you've got my typical trip to the mall.
I let my mom take care of all of my dorm shopping because it didn't really interest me. I'm sure I'll feel differently if I'm lucky enough to get a single bedroom next year.

Are you severely allergic? Can you eat products that have milk byproducts in them, like whey? I would imagine that it would be very difficult to avoid all foods with milk products in them, but I suppose it's not so bad once you're used to it.

Hee! We have the basic Target and the like here... yeah, not too fun.
Anyway, I re-read Adam's MySpace blog entry for whatever reason and it put a smile on my face. No, he can't form sentences, but I can't read "Maria" with a straight face anymore.
I wish I could repaint my dorm room. It's the oldest building in the quad here, so people think it's okay for the walls to be all cracked because it gives the building "character". Sounds like BS to me
If you can't even read it with a straight face, you'll be doomed seeing The Sound of Music tonight!

Haha, Ashley! It's actually tomorrow, but that's so true. I still have this mental image of Adam taking a moment, giving all the instruments a break, and saying something like, "Okay, I have a little special a cappella song for all of you..." while bursting into the nuns' song.
BG, I'm usually a book lover as well, but I haven't bought any after spending so much on the Rent Bible.
is being allergic like being lactos intolerant?
Mel, it's a little different because if you're lactose intolerant you can handle some kinds of dairy better than others. Must be something with the way it's processed. Not sure on all the rules, but I know that ice cream is more of a problem than some cheeses like cheddar.
No, it's not the same. Lactose is a sugar that just happens to be in and derived from milk. So lactose intolerance is exactly what it says -- you're intolerant to the sugar. For the majority of people who are lactose intolerant, their intolerance means they get sick to their stomach, or something, if they eat dairy, but only from the sugar, not the dairy itself. You can take pills for it, too. So if someone who's lactose intolerant pops a pill, they can eat what they want. They can also drink lactose-reduced milk
An actual allergy is a high sensitivity to the thing itself -- so to the proteins that make up milk itself. Usually food allergies are characterized by anaphylactic reactions, which are basically respiratory reactions, but they can affect the whole body. Depending on how bad your allergies are, you can get hives, itchy/swollen lips, itching in your mouth or throat, your throat could close, or in the worst cases you can go into something called anaphylactic shock, but I'm not sure how to describe that. If you know anyone who's allergic to bee stings, it's kind of the same thing.
So, no, SD, I can't eat any dairy products or by-products at all. Or anything with them in it, no matter how small the amount.
