That makes sense, but I just don't see how scoring the occasional bit part is going to compel someone to write material for you.
I'm happy that he wants to ultimately come back, though, don't get me wrong!
Hey, all ... Pretty good article. I sort of read the therapy line as a joke as well. Therapy meaning probably not actual therapy but all those things we do in our own lives that mean "therapy."
Maybe he should come vent to the board. We're all pretty good at doing that and moving on. :)

Thanks for the article.
Hey girlies
Look at his shirt..'Big Foot'
He looks great in that picture. Brown agrees with him. *nods*
He looks really good in that picture. I love his smile! *sigh*
Hi all. I just saw the Times article. First of all, I think it's possible he was serious about the therapy. Don't forget that in his notes about Civilian he talks about almost having a nervous breakdown at one point, and the lines in Mother's Child about "now I have to take these drugs so I don't see it over and over." He's also talked about coming from a darker place than someone like Anthony, so I think it's quite possible he's gotten some therapy. I don't see that as something negative, having done it myself.
As for the comments about coming back to Broadway via Hollywood, I took that to mean that despite not getting much of a boost from Rent, he's still hoping to break into movies or TV, become more of a name, and therefore have more ultimate clout in getting into a Broadway show he likes. It's just not going to be as easy as he had hoped.

Hey Chloe. :) Hope you're well and not too entirely burnt out. I hope you didn't feel that I was implying that anyone going to therapy is a negative event; I was just legitimately curious as to whether he was joking. I remembered some of what you just said, along with a comment I believe he made about not wanting to leave his house anymore a couple years ago, but on the other hand, I thought it seemed like a joke he might make.

Right, but if he were ever to truly break into movies or TV (and that's a big if), I can't imagine he'd want to go back to Broadway at that point. Maybe I'm just making assumptions, though.

I don't know; I think that maybe he would. He seemed pretty conscious in that article (after probably years of fighting it) that musical theater is where his true talent lies, in terms of what he can do that sets hiim apart from a lot of other people. I honestly can't blame him for not being interested in really any of the roles on Broadway right now (and really, how many are there that would actually suit him?). Even small parts in film or TV are probably more lucrative than any non-starring role on Broadway. Plus it's probably better to try something new than backtrack to playing smaller parts, career-wise.
On a somewhat related note, if I ever win the lottery, I am *so* using the money to produce a revival of Chess. And then Adam wouldn't have to worry.

You're probably right. I'm likely speaking from what I would do if I were in his position rather than what he would like do.
I'll probably be in bed before any concert reviews get posted.

I think what he's doing is... well, it at least shows some thought. But I think that while it's a bold move, it's also kind of naive... because he's not going to BE a Hollywood star.

Can't. stop. staring. at. the. gorgeous. picture.
As for the whole "therapy" thing, I agree with Chloe about Adam being partially serious about it. However, with Adam's sense of humor, it's also possible that he was joking. It's hard to distinguish the two.
siren- I'll invest in the Chess revival! haha. Heck, I say bring a revival of Chess to Broadway anyway!
You never know if he's going to be a Hollywood star. I mean he might not be one right away. Give him a few years. It's possible.
That's exactly the problem. While theater stars are made in an actor's thirties, stars are made in Hollywood at 20. Adam's passed the age bracket for finding stardom in Hollywood, as it stands now. There are plenty of good looking men out there; all he'll be is just another pretty face.

He'll be a damn FINE face!
I posted from work before and just got home, so yes, I'd say I am becoming a wee bit burned out.
There is all kind of "stardom," and I think you're limiting the idea somewhat. There are actors who become familiar faces and then have a breakout role. There are performers who become nationally known through TV series. All of those people would be thought of as more of a "draw" on Broadway by a lot of producers than someone who is just known for doing Broadway.
Where is everyone hiding? Back at work today, but wanted to let you know that there are a couple of reviews of last night's show on IMDb and LJ.
I'm as clueless about the IMDB boards, as I was about LJ, Chloe. Do you have a link?

I just read the account from LJ. Seems like the show was identical to the college tour (even his jokes were the same. ha!)
LJ Account
Hm. I don't remember signing up at IMDB, but apparently at one point I did.

Adam needs new jokes!
Ha, I know you're not particularly serious about the jokes, but you got me thinking - he's used to doing the same show every night, right? Why change something that's working and the audience enjoys? Because we're hearing about (or seeing) the same stuff for each show, they may seem repetitive, but they're working for the people actually there.
This reminds me of something I saw once about vaudeville, comedy and TV. Vaudevillians used to tour the country doing the same act for years, and later stand-up comedians would do more or less the same. The coming of TV meant the constant need for new material, hence Bob Hope and his stable of writers. Now live shows are kind of caught between these realities, due to the ubiquitous bootleg. Those seeing a lot of performances of the same shows (by whatever means) are going to want to see changes, but the performers owe it to the first-time, live audience to deliver the best show they can.
Bdwaygirl, did you manage to get onto IMDb?
Even though we keep hearing that he's doing the same jokes over and over again, and even though they're kinda lame, they still make me laugh.
Cassie over at Adam Pascal Online has posted a review of last night's concert with a set list, and there are at least two new songs. Here's the list:
- Beautiful Song
- Book of Endings
- Liken a Razor
- ??? - this was a new song, a love song for his wife, I didn't catch the name
- Maybe This Time (Caberet)
- Maria (West Side Story)
- A Single Drop of You (New)
- Love Will Always Come Back - this was Larry Edoff's song, Adam just played Bass
- Just As I Am (New)
- Model Prisoner
- I'm With You
- One Song Glory
- What I Did for Love
The one whose title she missed could be Mesmerized, which he did a lot back in 2001 but has never been recorded. Or he could have written a new song for Cybele. Anyway, two definite new ones, A Single Drop of You and Just As I Am. I'm dying to hear them!
Ooh, that's great to hear. The other one probably was Mesmerized; if so, I'm glad he's doing it again!
