Bye Chloe!
Darnit I missed nia! My uncle's girlfriend is named Andrea, but just about everyone in my family thinks she's a pyscho biatch so we always pronounce her name wrong to piss her off. Mean, but really fun.
I'm sorry you missed her too. She should have stuck around a little longer.

What's interesting about the book...I couldn't stand any of the characters. Miranda had no humanity, Andrea complained all the time. While there were parts of the movie I wish they would've further explored/played up/whatever (and a few changes they shouldn't have made imo), I still liked it better. The characters seemed far more realistic and three dimensional to me.
How are you doing, Amber? I haven't read the book, but sometimes it seems like it's easier to make a good movie from a bad book than a good one.
I just reread Adam's Calendar interview and noticed that he's living in Laurel Canyon. That's where Joni Mitchell lives, or at least used to live. One of her early albums is called "Ladies of the Canyon," referring to Laurel. I've driven through it several times. There's a winding, twisting two lane road running through it that is one of the main non-freeway routes from Hollywood to the Valley. It's a beautiful place, and can obviously be musically inspiring as well.

I just watched Evita with a friend. Damn, that's a long movie.
That's a suburb of LA, right? I wonder if Larry is living out there as well.
No, not a suburb, it's an actual canyon that runs throught the mountains between LA and the San Fernando Valley. It's kind of narrow, but with some side streets. Here's more info:
Laurel Canyon found itself a nexus of counterculture activity and attitudes in the 1960s, becoming famous as home to many of L.A.'s top rock musicians, such as Frank Zappa, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and Love. Joni Mitchell, inhabiting the home in the Canyon immortalized in the song written by Graham Nash, "Our House," would use the area as title and inspiration for her third album. The bohemian spirit from that time period endures to this day, and every year residents gather for a group photograph at the country market.

Ooh, cool. Well, at least we can take solace in the fact that he's not actually in LA.
ETA: Wait, he is? I'm so confused. At least it's not a fake, plastic-y section. Heh.

Oh, it's part of LA, up until Mulholland Drive, when it becomes part of Studio City, but it's certainly one of the more interesting parts. Here's a picture.

I finally figured it out via the Wikipedia link. I'm slightly slow on the uptake, clearly.
Don't worry. I started out giving a description, then realized I had only hazy memories of mostly trying to follow that twisting road. That's when I looked it up.
I'm in the mood for pictures.

Looking at the famous residents list, I'd assume it's an affluent part of town. Adam, get a job!
Practically everywhere is really expensive there.
I'd better get to bed -
Thanks for the pic Chloe! Adam looks lovely as usual.
Adam's Calendar interview? What did I miss?
I suppose Adam's current "job" is writing songs & planning concerts?
He had a front page article in the arts section of the LA Times - not too bad. Here's the link. Now I'm really going -
Interview
'Night Chloe!
Safe and sound in our lives
Is what we all want
And I don’t know nobody else
Can make the darkness ease into morning
Life’s much harder {.............}
Not anything like
The stories told to every child
So much to bear, how do we survive?
Will you, Cybele, see me shining?
‘Cause I can’t think of letting go
I’m broken down, so I am told
Will you, Cybele, see me shining?
All these years searching for you
I can’t leave now, I need you to lead me through
I wish that when I was young
Someone gave me some,
Some warning of what's to come
A little truth [.......] to help me hold on
It’s taken all of this time
For me to realize
That I can’t turn to anyone
Except for you, my love, don’t leave me now
Will you, Cybele, see me shining?
‘Cause I can’t think of letting go
I’m broken down, so I am told
Will you, Cybele, see me shining?
All these years searching for you
I can’t leave now, I need you to lead me
Lead me to life, lead me to love
Hold me tomorrow
Take me to a better day
Lead me to life, lead me to love
Show me tomorrow
Take me to a better day [etc]
This is the closest I've been able to come on the lyrics for Cybele's song. I think what I've got is accurate, and I could make some guesses on the missing words, but they don't seem quite right. It would be great if any of you had some suggestions.

Great job, Chloe! I think that all seems right. They're gorgeous lyrics. For what it's worth, I hear:
"Life's much harder, life
Not anything like..."
Thanks for your help, Ashley.
I was hearing "life" twice too, but wasn't sure that could be right. To me it was:
Life's much harder in life,
Not anything like
But I keep thinking one of those "life"s is a different word.
Here's hoping we find out for sure before long.
It's really beautiful :)

Asshlleey. I love seeing "sweetestsiren" pop up on threads.
If I had the correct lyrics, I would have given them to you a long time ago! I guess one minor correction would be that I think he changes the "searching for you" to "with you" later in the song, but that's pretty nitpicky.
I have work tonight, and I have to open the store on Monday. Why are my hours crazy?
Hey Emcee!
I heard the "with you," but thought it might have been a mistake. It could be an intentional variation I suppose. I also wonder if the first "Hold me tomorrow" was supposed to be "Show me tomorrow" like the others.
Lexi, that schedule is terrible, and would probably be penalized under my union rules. We have something called "turnaround time," where if you don't get ten hours between the time you leave and go back to work, you're paid overtime until you do. With our crazy schedules, those kind of rules are necessary.
Lexiii. Sorry to hear about your crazy hours. I'm emailing out resumés tonight for jobs for the school year.
I know what you mean about the second "life," Chloe. Hmm. I can't think of what else would make sense there. It sort of parallels the repetition of "some" in the first verse after the chorus, maybe? Okay, that's a stretch. And I also hear "of/or fear" in the second part you weren't sure about, which makes no sense, so I'm sure that can't be right.

I never really considered that. It seems about right that he'd probably sing what came to him rather than ensure the lyrics were perfectly executed with a song like this, though.
I'm pretty sure that next year's summer job is going to consist of me sitting in front of a computer or a phone.
ETA: I hear the "fear" line too -- something like "a little truth to fear, to help me hold on." However, as Ashley pointed out, that makes no sense.

Yeah, I hear "fear" like both of you, but can't believe that would help him "hold on." If the first word is "of," then the second could start with any indefinite consonant instead of "f," but I haven't come up with anything yet. It could be "I feel," but that's a bit awkward.
