I'm cold! My parents haven't put on the heat yet, but it's VERY chilly.

He's awsome. But I think Ernie is my favorite.

Ok, I've listened to the RENT soundtrack many times now and given it time and everything, and I still don't like Adam's voice on it. It sounds so much more....i don't know. Not as rockish and whiny kind of. Anyone agree?

Emcee- Same here! It's so cold, and it's been raining all day. I got stuck in like, torrential downpour on my way home.

theatrebabe- I still don't have the Rent soundtrack. F*ck reality

I don't think I can pick a "better" or "worse" for Adam's voice. It's just different. And honestly, the first time I heard him was live -- not on the Rent OBCR like is true for many of his fans. So, the way he sounds currently is the way I discovered him sounding. THAT is the Adam I know, so the fact that the more "current" Adam to me is what I hear on the soundtrack is totally fine. I never "knew" him to sound the way he did ten years ago. It's not bad, it's just... diferent, IMO.

Wow, that's awsome. I still haven't heard him live F*ck reality It's pathetic. It's going to take a lot of begging, but I think I can my parents to take me to see RENT in Chicago next spring. But I still won't get to see Adam.

How sad is it that the closest I've ever come to Broadway is Chicago and that was only for Wicked???? Very, very sad in my opinion.

awww. I'm sorry. F*ck reality I hope you can see something in NYC one day soon, though. Either way, Chicago's theatre scene is nothing to shake a fist at.

Yea, I'm gonna be watching the movie 24/7 just to see Adam. But it still isn't live....
I very much hope I get to go to NY soon too. However, I don't see that happening. As far as my mom is concerned I don't need to see a broadway show anytime soon.
"I didn't see a broadway show until I was 24. Why do you need to see one? You're only 13."
Yea. Well you didn't happen to be OBSESSED with it, did you???? *takes deep breaths*
Ok, I'll stop ranting now.

I've only heard the clips from the website so far, so don't have a lot to go on, but the biggest difference I hear in Adam's voice between the old and new versions is that it had a certain huskiness earlier, in both his speaking voice and when he sang softly.

That seems to be gone, in fact I think it was gone by the time he went into Aida. It was a pleasant and somewhat youthful sound and may be what people miss, but also may have been the result of the allergies he discovered he had while first doing the show. Just a guess, and it could also have been a quality that simply disappeared because of all the singing he was doing.

I actually like his voice better now. I feel like he's not grating out the notes.

Here's the first review of the soundtrack I've seen, from the Washington Examiner - not too shabby:

There are probably some people who are waiting for the upcoming big-screen version of "Rent" to fail, or think it will be a piece of bombastic fluff like "The Phantom of the Opera." And there's one person who will keep all that from happening: Rosario Dawson.

Director Chris Columbus rounded up most of the original cast of the late Jonathan Larson's musical update of Puccini's "La Boheme" (which debuted on Broadway in 1996), yet went Hollywood to find his Mimi. And while Dawson's mainstream musical offerings have veered toward the forgettable (see: "Josie and the Pussycats") her mom was a professional singer and she more than holds her own opposite pros.

All the famous showtunes from the Broadway production are on the two-disc soundtrack - "One Song Glory," "La Vie Boheme," "Seasons of Love" (which seems to have become the film's main theme) - in addition to the unreleased Larson cut "Love Heals." The CD gets a boost with superb production values compared to previous "Rent" cast albums - the revved-up backing band adds complementary spirit to Larson's story of 20-somethings dealing with the AIDS epidemic and other issues in New York's East Village.

TV stars Taye Diggs and Jesse L. Martin return to the show with their vocal chords none the worse for wear, and Adam Pascal, who's released albums as a solo rocker, is great again as Roger, the AIDS-afflicted musician seeking to write the perfect song after the death of his girlfriend. He, of course, finds love in the form of Mimi, a drug-addicted stripper who also has AIDS, and the duet "Light My Candle" between Pascal and Dawson is just the brightest of several showtune gems.

*waves* Hi all! I just ate some ice cream. Mint chip mmm! I'm so excited for tomorrow morning! And score, no school (thank you kindly, oh lovely chosen people of God. F*ck reality) and score, no rehersal! I spent four, almost 5 hours at a rehersal that was supposed to be an hour. Don't you hate those?

And, for those who are interested, the miracle that is my TiVo notifed me that an episode of Spin City from 1997 featuring the cast of Rent shall be on tomorrow at 3:30 on FX (check your local cable listings for accuracy!). I'm sure they'll only be on for a few minutes--and who knows which cast members were on, but it should be entertaining to see!

Good reviews make me happy. So does my TiVo *pets TiVo* Good Tivo, good boy <3 To be honest, I'd take my OBC recording any day over the movie soundtrack though. Some of the new arrangements kind of erk me.

Is that how you spell erk? I don't know, it just doesn't look right...

Showcase here in Canada, but yeah, I think it's HBO. Or Showtime. Definitely one of the two!
