Since he jumped from a heavy metal band onto Broadway I can see that it might not have seemed "cool" and so it would be easier in a group of friends that were not broadway people to just think of it as a job. But given the chance to be musical and do live performances and make a living could eventually grow on you, I would think!
Siamese, I agree there's nothing scandalous about the Adam/Daphne thing. I guess I was just free associating. Anyway, thanks for the info. I read those boards pretty regularly but didn't see it and was curious as to what exactly was said.
There are a whole bunch of seminars online. I've watched several now. Interest varies, but it certainly isn't fluff. Here's a link. I'm not sure what page this will take you to, but the one we've been talking about is on page 9. Adam made a second appearance in 2000 when he was in Aida.

Yeah, no problem. I definitely do agree that girls spreading rumors about Adam and Rosario is pretty bad, though. I can't recall the thread that this was on. IIRC, it was on the main Rent board and not the Adam board. It's also been a while, so I probably couldn't find it even if I looked. Although, if there were anything more of real interest, I'm sure I would have remembered!
Thanks for the link, Chloe!
Yeah, if it was a while ago, forget it! There are usually five pages for just the last 24 hours.
The impression I've gotten is that Adam initially considered Rent as a wonderful but temporary detour from his musical career, and hoped that he'd get a record contract out of it. In his Chatterbox interviews he talks about how difficult things were after his two years in the show. He got married right after coming back from London and needed to support his wife as well. By the time Aida came along a year later, he "really needed a job," so went back to Broadway. The NY Times even had an interview with him titled "The Reluctant Broadway Star."
He must have enjoyed doing the show to be able to stay with it so long, though, and of course doing Cabaret a few months after leaving Aida gave him confidence that he could really be an actor.
It's funny, in a way you could almost predict what will happen next by reversing whatever he says his plans and intentions are. He wasn't going to do more musicals after Rent, he wasn't going to go back to either Rent or Aida - so maybe we should assume he's not going to move to LA and make movies.

Ooo, I love the clip. *gah* the pants! I must say though, I don't think that Daphne sounded very good, but I think it is just the song because she sounds great in Rocky Horror and on her CD- her voice is definantly an aquired taste. Adam, on the other hand- well, WOW is all I can say to him, as usual, lol.
I agree with Chloe, I can't stand the thought of him moving. How could I possibly stalk him when he's all the way in L.A.!!
I'm saving the thread from page 2 - anyone around?
do we know yet if him moving is 100% true?
No we don't. Someone posted that he was quoted about doing that in a little More magazine article, but I don't think anyone else has seen it, and no other info has come to light. It always seemed a little doubtful to me since all his family and friends are here.
yeaa..i mean he has a family. *prays its not true*

Wouldn't moving to LA to do movies further stray him from his musical career? At least on Broadway he's singing. If the career he wants to pursue is in music, the move wouldn't make much sense.
I really hope this is nothing but a rumor and his comment was just an idea and nothing serious.
But he also said a new CD would be soon, so even if he plans on moving, perhaps a new CD would stall the move.

Chloe, you mean no one else even saw the quote? That sounds a bit suspect. Heh. I'll just keep tellng myself that he's not movng!
I looked for it, but didn't find the right issue. We have to keep in mind that one of his major concerns is supporting his family, and a good education costs a fortune these days. Since nothing seems to be coming up for him on Broadway, which doesn't pay as well either, it makes sense for him to pursue film roles. He'd have a better chance with that if Rent had done better or he'd been perceived as giving some kind of breakout performance, but he still has some good moments in it.
I'm not sure what to make of the new CD comment. The way he laughed afterwards was strange. I assumed he was thinking about how long it took to get Civilian out.
does anyone have iO? b/c i got it over the summer and i just discovered 'Enhanced Tv' on it (yes im a little slow). it has Broadway.com videos! i almost flipped! am i just a little late? lol

I've said this on this thread in the past, but I don't have a problem with him pursuing film. I think it's sad that his voice would be "wasted" in most movies (really, how many musicals are coming out?), and I think it would be sad to have him leave NY just as soon as I got there, but Broadway doesn't have too many opportunities for him right now.
Yeah, I think he was just laughing at his inability to put a date or time on when the next album was coming out. Like, he opened his mouth about to say something, but the only thing coming out was "soon."
And IHC, I have no idea what iO is. Heh.

Maybe we should worry about him moving when it actually happens? As of right now, there is only speculation and it's not worth it to stress out yet. In other words, I'm going to deny that it is true until he is on the plane.
I do not have iO, but now I wish I did. Large Broadway.com videos! That's excellent! Enjoy it.
I have IO as my Cablevision service here on Long Island - is that what you're talking about? If so, where is this "enchanced TV" thing?
I think he loves music too much. Even if he went, I'd like to be able to think he would come home again; and even if he goes, I hope he never, ever stops singing -- even if it's not here. I just... well, how many rock musical movies are there? Seriously. Certainly Hollywood would eat up his looks, but he belongs on a stage. Good as he was in Rent, there's something about him on stage that can't be recreated on film.
I'm too attached, and I'd miss him terribly, but he needs to do what's right for him, obviously.
If he's recording, though, I think chances are that would happen in New York, since Sh-k-Boom is fairly small, and NYC-based.
We'll see.
I can't imagine him not singing in some way, especially since he first and foremost considers himself a musician (I think he still does anyway.)
I agree that his amazing stage presence isn't really captured on film, and I'm believing in this move less and less. How are you doing with writing that musical, Emcee?
I was looking at the Rent DVD thread, and apparently there will be two discs, which means lots of extras I assume. The information was on a linked VH1 Rent page. One section was interviews and there was a little quote I'd never seen before from Adam:
I was playing in rock bands since I was 12. We were a bunch of spoiled brats from Long Island and didn't really have what it took to make it. But we tried for years. I quit the band and then I was working as a personal trainer. I had a client who I trained at five in the morning, then I had to make it over to a gym that I opened at six. I was totally broke, I had no money and I lived on the Upper West Side, so every day I would get up and ride my bike at 4:30 AM through Central Park to the East Side, train her, get back on my bike, and ride down to this gym. Then I got the Rent part, but continued to do this throughout the rehearsal process. After work I would get on my bike and ride down to 4th Street for rehearsals. I think we had 18 blizzards in 1995. It was so cold. If I had never paid any dues before, that winter was enough!
I was thinking about this the other day. How exactly did Adam get the part in RENT? I've heard that he heard stuff through Idina, then other things where someone contacted him, then in the RENT bible they say that they started putting notices up in places like CBGB's. Do do we have an accurate idea of how Adam got Roger?
As I threadjack here...I don't think I've seen some of these pictures before...

The story he told about it on the View and Seth's Chatterbox sounds like the real one to me - that one of his best friends, Glen, was dating Idina and she had already been cast. Glen suggested Adam audition for Roger, since they were looking for a rock voice. I've also heard him say a friend who was a talent agent suggested he audition, so maybe Glen was also an agent. To shorten and simplify the story, I think he sometimes just says it was Idina who led him to audition.

Yeah, Adam told the same story (the one that Chloe posted) on Tony Danza as well. Considering it's straight from Adam, I'd think it's the "real" story. Heh.
