Emcee, I had to come back because I had a thought about criticism. I don't think being a good critic is really about being mean enough or even about being impartial. Nobody is really impartial, and pretending to be just leads to either dishonest or boring reviews. As long as you're up front about your biases, others will know how to interpret what you're saying. Also, being bitchy and mean is an easy copout that is ultimately sterile. What I love in your reviews is your genuine love and enthusiasm, so don't lose that!

I've never seen him in person, but I double <3 the Rent OBCR. I think thats great and highly criticesque to be able to see the weak points and the great stuff all at once.

Thanks, Chloe! I'm just scared, I guess, that in the long run, if someone gives a bad performance I won't be able to say what needs to be said just because of my... appreciation of them. I can't be like "oh, well... he's always amazing, except here, so this must be okay!" I'm trying to at least be fair, if only making up excuses rather than covering for mishaps.

I agree with Chloe, I hate those critics who always pan things to make themselves "seem smart"
It seems like the great self awareness you have will serve you very well in the whole thing. I was just thinking the other day you have a magnificent sense of appraisal. And knowledge of where your limitations are, and want to improve those areas.
I think there are few people your age who can really say that.

Just to pick up from last night again...

Lots of people mistake honesty for bitchiness. I personally prefer if people just say the way it is in reviews than desperately try to sugar coat a terrible production. Nothing worse than people who can't express how they really feel and are constantly worried about upsetting other people's feelings (when it comes to reviews, not in 'real life' obviously!).

As long as you're honest, Emcee, you will be fine. I'd be very interested in reading your review. I'm sure I will very much disagree with it as I personally thought CCBB was one of the most disappointing shows this season but I'll be impartial enough to tell you if were fair in your review, unlike others. But that's a different story.

Hey guys.. I have been gone all weekend so I'm a little behind in whats going on, but from what I gather we are talking about Em's reviews.. I must say that I agree with QM and penguin on this one. As long as you are honest that's what matters. I also hate those people that sugar coat everything for fear or bruising an ego or two. In the past all the reviews I have read of yours have been quite good. You call it like you see it. I'm also interested in your CCBB review once it's done..

On that note how is everyone today?

Morning Penguin.. I agree.. If you dont like it or aren't happy with some aspect of it just say it. Thats the wonderful thing about having your own opinion.. I tend to be very honest in what I think.. I have to take a great deal of time when I review especially if there was something or someone I didn't care for. I get a little brutal in my honesty on occassion..

It was Spamalot for me, especially with the expectations I went in with.
Now I'm having the problem Cam is speaking of, I feel my overall disappointment has clouded the whole thing and I can't judge fairly anymore. I just see the brutality.

You know, the city itself was quite disappointing. I had high expectations and was almost bored after three days. Just like it usually is with men for me!
