The more I keep hearing about Cabaret, the more I wish I could have seen Adam in it or heard it or something. Ah well, there's the Rent movie to look forward to.
Also, I have a question about "I'm With You." I was just rewatching my tape from yesterday's appearance on the CBS show and I thought I heard Adam sing something along the lines of "you are your mother's religion." Could be I'm going insane from studying for finals for eight hours, who knows. I'm just curious about this line, if I heard it correctly, what it means. It seems like Adam puts a lot of thought into his songs (which is a very good thing, and I think makes them more interesting to listen to), and I'm just wondering where this line came from. This won't affect my being a fan of Adam in any way, I'm just curious. Plus, I need something to distract my mind from my upcoming finals.
Nope, you heard the line right.
"You are your mother's religion, down on her knees as she kisses your heartache away...."
The only insight I can offer is that the song was written as a sort of "love letter" to his kids, Lennon and Monte. I guess he's just saying how important they are, both to Adam and to their mother.
Check your PM's, by the way, ballerina.
Adamaddict, I haven't checked the Chatterbox site to see if it's still listed, but the first Adam tape would say "Stephanie D'Abruzzo/ John Tartaglia, Adam Pascal/ Sherie Rene Scott," so it might be easy to miss with all those names. As Emcee said, each tape has two shows on it.
Amasis, I totally agree with you about the emotional range in Adam's singing, and I'm sure it's what is most responsible for us being here. (I don't think I would particularly care about his ass if he couldn't sing like that - it's just a nice bonus ) That kind of emotionality is like a window into someone's soul, and if it reaches you at all you can't help but feel something for him.
The old tape has John and Stephanie on it, too? That definitley means I need to own one.

'"love letter" to his kids'
Now that I think about it, that makes sense. At first I thought the song was about something else entirely, but now I get it. Gah, this is what insane studying does to you.
G'night everyone. My mom insists that I get more than 5.5 hours of sleep each night during finals...
Click the link in my signature and go to "about the CD" - Adam explains all of the songs.
Yeah, Emcee, I haven't watched the whole John/Stephanie interview yet, but they sing a song together at the end - a rather quaint sounding one.
The context of that line from "I'm With You" is:
Oh, you are the sunshine,
You are the face that I dream of,
You are your mother's religion,
Down on her knees... etc.
So it's part of a list of what the kids are to them. (And it was mostly written before Monte was born, I think, which is why most of it refers to one child rather than both.) I took the religion reference as coming from the fact that she was on her knees, as if in prayer, so he made the association back from that image.
Edited to become coherent, since I can't keep up with the thread now.

Right - "the moon is a glorious halo," "we stare out the window, and look to the sky every night.... the stars are the beacons of heaven...." and the other references like that come from Lennon's obsession with the stars and the moon when he was very young - it's all in that "about the CD" bit on the website. That's where I got the "love letter" thing.
God, it's such a gorgeous song, all those images are so beautiful, and the melody is so sad.
Goodnight, ballerina!
Every time I listen to that song, my heart melts. I can't believe how gorgeous it is.
And gorgeous as it is, there's hardly any place on the radio for songs like that any more. That's one obstacle Adam faces with his music. Radio playlists have become so rigid and narrow. Where does Adam's music fit in? Not on the top forty probably, MAYBE Adult Contemporary, but most of his fans wouldn't be listening to those stations. It's a dilemma. That's why the Rent movie could be such a godsend. If he becomes well-known and people go looking for his music on the internet, he won't need the radio stations.
Exactly. My mom and I were watching my tape, and she was like "so, does this mean we'll hear him on the radio and stuff now?" and I said I wasn't sure. I don't know when the last time I bothered with the radio was, because it's so narrow and... I don't know what word I'm looking for. I suppose that explains why my loyalties lie where they do. People hardly ever mean the words that they sing anymore, and that takes away so much.
It's a shame about radio now. It's very unimaginative. Adam's music is very influenced by 70's and 80's stuff, and back then, especially in the 70's, FM stations played anything and everything, including a lot of album cuts. The DJ's could play anything they wanted in some cases. That's how someone like Elton could become so big. Who knows, maybe Adam is part of a new wave that will change things.
Well, I'd better get off now - I'm making a valiant effort to get back on a better schedule. You might need to get into training too, Emcee. Film sets get going at the crack of dawn!
I don't think Emcee will even sleep the night before she visits the film set.
In terms of lyrics, Adam did a great job on Civilian. And that line you quoted ('you are your mother's religion') is one of the most beatiful lines I've ever heard. I'm glad there's *content* in his songs.. you know... it's never just "fluff".
haha, I've got a couple of months. There are very few things for which I wake up so early...
And... we can only hope. "Success, joy and fabulousity," ROLL ON!
thanks for the spork info. do you happen to have that picture on your computer and would you like to post it/send it to me. if not that's fine.
so did you tell him why you wanted the picture, did he ask? details...details....sorry if i'm asking you to repeat what you've probably told a bunch of times already.
if i was going to the set, there's no way i would be able to sleep the night before. just thinking about "knowing" somebody who is going excites me lots
Yup, I do! PM me you AIM screen name. I'll explain on IM.
you've been pm-ed

Amasis = DEAD MEAT!!! *returns to her fangirl closet*
Cloe, I'm hearing you about the current 'playlist' of radio stations. However, there are still amazing artists with beautiful lyrics such as REM, U2 etc who still receive a lot of airplay. Absolutely right, there is definitely too much cr*p out there at the moment, but if you are good and if you're lucky you'll eventually make it and receive airplay.
*crosses fingers for Adam*
ETA: Just saw on Playbill.com that our good, old friend (*snorts*) Micky Dolenz has scored a job as a host for WCBS-FM. Maybe he remembers this chap who played Radames and plays his songs in his show.

They put new video clips up on the CBS site, but no Adam! Who cares about The Peoples' Choice awards fashion, I want me some Pascal!
Devilwind-- PM Rob or Craig. They'll probably know what to do.
Ugh-- CBS doesn't have clips of him?? I care about Adam a lot more than the Fashion Awards-- I didn't even know those were on!! *grumbles*

They can't exactly put a clip with Adam up alongside a clip about fashion... poor boy's clothes are bad enough without the comparison to make things worse.
haha, I was watching my tape with my mom, and she was like "hey, cute shirt!"
I shook my head and said "Mom. Where Adam is blessed with voice, some people are blessed with fashion sense. We are all not so lucky."
She gave me a really straaaaange look.
Aw, Adam.
And amasis, you'd better look out. QM says "DEAD MEAT!"
I honestly didn't see anything wrong with his clothes on the show either - but then of course I wear nothing but jeans and tees 90 percent of the time myself.
:: officially excuses herself from any further involvement in Emcee's clothes choices for the big day::
There don't seem to be any clips of performances by anyone from the Morning Show on the CBS site, so I guess this is not going to happen, unfortunately. At least there are a couple of links for buying the CD on his page.
