Wow, amasis, I was wondering if anyone around here had seen it. Anything else you can tell us about it?
Well, it has been a while... The most electrifying moment must have been when Heather struggled to finish that last line in EL reprise. She sang "I just want to be with you..." and couldn't continue. Adam was looking at her, and she just cried and cried. And then you hear this woman in the audience (who we found out later was Heather's mother) yelled, "Finish strong!!" and Heather pulled it together and sang her last line. But in that moment when she was struggling - it was really intense.
There were a couple of moments like that... At the end of 'Dance of the Robe', the cast applauded Heather (they tapped the floor as they were bowing) and Heather shook her head quickly, as if asking them to stop, but they went on and she cried. She cried a lot that night.
Gods Love Nubia was also insane. Schele Williams started crying the second she tried to sing her lines and Heather took her arm and rubbed it. This happens every show (that Aida and Nehebka held hands for a few moments) but Heather didn't let go for a long time at this show.
*Edit: Oh, I just remember something else. You know the museum scene at the end, right when Radames and Aida walks toward each other and realize they've met before? On this show as they were walking toward each other Heather sort of shook her head at Adam (I think she says later that she said to Adam, "It's over."), and instead of finishing up the scene as usual, they just grabbed and hugged each other. And there were lots of flashes going off then, but no death stare.

July 20th? I need to buy tickets!! I've only seen Manley and Jeremy.. I LOVED Jeremy!!
amasis, stop makin' me cry!
I wish there were good accounts of Adam's "last."
amasis, that was very sad, but great. thanks for that!
emcee, i saw rent w/ the same cast you saw it with the first time. i thought joey was a little lacking at some points but other than that they were great. that may also because it was my first time so the whole thing was enthralling and overwhelming. i know there are some people who don't like manley but i really liked him. it's hard to know. i really need to go back. i know the next time it will be a whole new and more powerful experience. the show has evolved so much for me since then. i'll probably have to wait either for the summer or next year when i get a chance to go into the city and do the rush.
Sorry, Emcee. But Chloe asked!
Of the more 'recent' casts, I saw Jeremy and Manley in the role. I have to say that I much preferred Jeremy's portrayal, though. Manley sounds great in the slower songs, but his acting made me cringe.

awwww, all of this Rent and Aida stuff... I really do need to go to New York at some point. There's a possibility I might get to go a year from now, if I have money...
Joey and Manley were my first. I was against Joey just by principle, but I liked Manley, probably out of naivete. He's good, but not the best.

I'd love to see Cary. July 20th? Ugh, I'd better find one heck of a summer job...
Oh, Emcee. I also wanted to say that I did come across some great accounts of Adam's and Simone's last, right after it happened. I didn't bookmark them, but if you poke around in google they may still be up.
Thank you very much, amasis, I really appreciate it.
I'm sure Adam's departure (round 1) must have been somewhat different - after all that time he must have been really ready to leave. As a matter of fact, that time I worked with him, before becoming a fan, was the morning after his last show. I was a little concerned that he would be tired or upset, but he seemed fine. I mentioned that it must have been really something to leave the show after being in it so long, and he smiled and said he was okay.
Yeah, it was time. And everyone he'd grown really attached to was gone, except Schele.
You're welcome, Chloe - it's nice to remember it again after all this time. Let me know if you want to know anything else. Updated On: 3/13/05 at 09:30 PM
Hmm. Do you remember anything about their first scenes together, on board the ship? Or Enchantment Passing Through?
ETA: Anthony actually posted a second time tonight, to talk more about the plaid pants issue. He actually wrote something to Nia also! Too bad she seems to be off line right now.

Hmm... Well, I can't remember if there was anything unusual in their first scene(s) together. It had always been very fierce, when Adam jumped up and lifted his hand and Heather stepped back and yelled "You know nothing..." (She was the only one I've seen/heard who does that scene so vehemently. I love how she did that scene). I don't remember anything different happening, though.
In EPT, the audience started clapping and cheering right after she finished saying the "So don't expect any pity..." line. It was so loud you can't hear any of Adam's lines, and he went out of character for a split second and laughed.
I just remembered something else... After their first kiss, which was interrupted by Mereb, usually Aida just leaves the stage as Radames looks at Mereb as if nothing happened. This time, as Heather was going off stage, Adam followed her a step or two and whispered something. She looked back at him and snorted.

Well, as you can gather, I love hearing about all this. And maybe I want to remember Aida since there's so much Rent stuff going on right now. Oh, and I love that first kiss scene - very sexy.
The very first time I saw AIDA, I actually couldn't believe that they put in that first kiss where it was. Part of it was maybe because Adam's acting wasn't so strong, so he couldn't make the scene work, but I think the writing is also bad. I just couldn't buy that someone so strong and independent like AIDA would just accept it when this captain just said, "Oh, let's find out, shall we?" and then grabbed and kissed her.
It was sexy, though.
Hi everyone. I always hate to barge in on your thread but-
Chloe: I just read what Anthony wrote on the main board and I thought that was so kind of him to respond to Nia's post. What a sweetheart.
Anthony's incredible. He has such a big, beautiful heart.
That kiss is one of my favourite AIDA moments, because it's so sexy. The way he just grabbed her and kissed her got me, because I'm a sap. The writing there was pretty silly, though.

The first kiss in Aida...
I love that scene. It does seem kind of out of character and unexpected, but that's kind of what I liked about it.
Hi Hedwig - I'm sure no one feels like you're barging in. I've only been here a few hundred pages myself. Anthony is wonderful, isn't he?
Amasis, when I saw Aida towards the end, I didn't have any problem with that scene - but maybe I'm not as critical as some of you. I was just loving the whole show so much, hardly anything bothered me!
Thanks Chloe. Yes, he does sound like a truly great person. I'm always a bit hesitant to read his posts though, not sure if I want to know too much about the movie or if I want to wait and be pleasantly surprised.

You should have heard the friend I was with. She was miffed about the sets, the costume, she thought adam should have been clean-shaven because Egyptians did NOT have beards like that. And she didn't like Heather's acting. We had quite a nice, heated discussion walking out of the theatre.
Yeah, I just let it go as a silly plot point and enjoyed the kiss after my first time seeing it, but they really forced that in. She's tough, she's a proud woman and extremely intelligent. And then he goes, "I wanna know if you feel anything for me aside from contempt" "Uh... I dunno" "Well, let's find out!" *grab & kiss*. And then she's supposed to be so stunned, she's speechless? Please. Good thing I like the music, and the performers (it was the OBC, for my first time)

It would take a great deal more self-control than I've got to refrain from reading them! But you certainly have a point. At the rate we're going, people will probably be reciting the lines with the cast the first time they see the movie.
Hm, amasis, I guess I was already into Adam more than I knew, as it seemed perfectly logical for any woman to be stunned and speechless at that point. :-P And I'm glad I didn't see the show with someone as negative as your friend, it would have really spoiled it for me!
Ah, now I feel bad. She's not a negative person, just critical of that particular show. It didn't ruin it for me, but I rarely get affected by people's opinions. I disagreed with her assessments, but it was good to have that discussion. I think a lot of it centered around how much of the visual design should have been "historically accurate". I felt it's more important that the design look good, even while taking some liberties, and she disagreed. I was just incredibly relieved that they got rid of the ridiculous workshop costumes, maybe.

Yeah, I love him, and his incredible voice, but still...
Whoops, didn't mean to imply your friend was negative, just negative about the show. Normally I'm okay with rational criticism too, but not about things like a show written by Elton I'm afraid! Also, I doubt if Deborah Cox was nearly as fierce as Heather seems to have been, so maybe that changed things a little.
Well, I should get to bed. I have a big week ahead of me. Have a good night, or day, as the case may be!
