Hello kiddies and now it is time for Broadway story time w/ Amanda. Today's episode: Parent-Teacher Night at Spelling Bee a. k. a. adult night
Well, for what I hope is obvious reasons, not going through details of the show tongiht, just will say the songs were essentially the same but lots of different jokes, sentences, words, movements, etc. Def worth seeing it despite having seen it 3 times, got a $95 ticket in second row center 2 hours before the show. After the tough weekend I had, figured I needed it and god was it worth it.
But very appropriate story for this thread, though not as good as it can be b/c I let my slightly shy and very unintrusive personality take over...I had my eyes out knowing it was a special Spelling Bee performance on a Sun. night when most other shows are dark for actors. Played fun games thinking I saw Greg and others but eventually settled down. Then at one point when of the characters exits, the lights follow her to the stairs and the light shines on a section of the audience and without a question sitting in the third row on the aisle right next to the steps is the one, the only...Andrew Asnes!
Heh. Contemplated saying something about the funny situation on Thursday, but he was talking w/ ppl and I just didn't wanna bother him, seems to be close w/ Deborah S. Craig(she is soo sweet, more on her later) though at one point he went up the escalator and I looked at him and he looked at me for a bit of a while I think thinking I looked familiar or something, though I would understand him being unable to place me, I had my hair up and wore my glasses. Kinda funny though. Had to share that story, shoulda said something but meh.
So if you guys read the threads on the main board, you will notice there were pandas in tonight's show. They first made their appearance in "Pand(a)monium" (haha) and stayed on the rest of the show to escort everyone who was eliminated from the Bee off and we saw very very sexual poses w/ the characters and pandas. Well....given my nickname...this all kind of disturbed me...was interesting though.
I naturally bawled during the I Love You Song but the cast is soo sweet. I talked to Derrick Baskin about it and how my parents are divorcing so it really got to me and he gave me a hug and I was like OMG I'm getting comforted by the comfort counselor lmao. And I started saying something to Lisa Howard as she signed my playbill but she wasn't listening so I walked away and then like 3 minutes later she found me to apologize that someone else was talking but she wanted to know what I was going to say(soo sweet!) she hugged me too. I may sound like such a geek(hey I wore a shirt that said theater dork today) but I adore broadway hugs.
Talked to some cast members about holding in giggles(Dan was awful about that tonight) and reminded Jesse I was wickedrentq from Kitchen Sink and Celia was like ohh hi! Hehe, that was fun.
But possible best part, I met up w/ my friend who was doing standing room, and she sees shows way more than I do(hard to believe huh?) This was my 4th time seeing Spelling Bee, her 7th. Lemme tell you it was awesome to say it's only my 4th time, hahaha. Anywayz, I dunno if she knew Deborah beforehand or just talked to her today but they talked for quite a bit and then I joined and mentioned she did a great job w/ the giggling and she was like really? did you notice anything b/c I was so concerned? and ya know we talked for a bit, and then she said bye and hugged us both, she's definitely up there on nicest bway actors list now. Hehe, that just keeps growing. I love broadway people.
