Well, I've been home for a little while. Just reflecting on the movie/night and even year following the movie to an extent. Thought the movie was pretty great, definitely not perfect, of course had my qualms, but will wait to see more till most of this thread sees it.
Funny stories from the Q&A are on the main thread--go read it! Adam cracks me up...making comparisons to the Haggadah, wanting to date himself, saying that Anthony likes penises w/ his dessert(Wilson ACTUALLY fell of his chair)
Unfortunately as opposed to coming out to the lobby in a "stage door" manner they were signing things on the stage so it was difficult to get to them. Saw Anthony on his way in before the movie, got a quick hello and how are you but would have liked to see him after, oh well. Probably could have gotten to Wilson and Tracie but of course I tried to get to Adam who stayed the longest but I just missed him. Maybe it's better this way, let my one glorious moment stand alone as one moment in time.
And b/c I know he's pretty popular on this thread...woow. So when we went in I was hanging at kinda the bar area in the back of the theatre w/ a couple of friends, most of whom are big Raul fans. On the way down I thought i saw someone who looked like someone from a movie and I was like hmmm, I wonder if I'll see anyone here...so naturally as we're talking I look up and see...Raul! walking right toward us...now like I've said I think Raul is a very talented performer and I'm a big fan but not in the sense that some others are, ya know? So I start pointing b/c 2 of the girls are in w/ looove him and finally I hafta push them into position to see him and then they do. Suprised shrieks. We call our other friend upstairs who loves him and I keep encourage them to approach him or say that I will but they tell me not to. Finally I see Broadwayboobs and run over to say hi to him and chat a while, and when I came back low and behold they were chatting w/ Raul! He was sitting on the aisle so I just joined in my friends and joined the convo. Hmm, I think we mentioned TTB and how sad we are to never have seen it live(though I know he's okay w/ it I was like well you were great in what I have seen of it while rolling my eyes and he laughed), and he mentioned they may be doing a concert version of it in the next year, and how much that work is close to his heart and thinks it's one of the best things we ever done. Then of course I had to ask about the new instrument-Company production, I asked him about the instrument he might play, he says they're discussing Bobby not playing an instrument, but he has played piano and guitar. Then he asked if any of us saw Sweeney which of course made me squeal and babble about the amazingness of the instruments and I think someone else mentioned Sondhiem's subject matter and how many of our families love all bway except Sondheim and he talked about first discovering him and how much he loves him and such. Umm, I think then the lights blinked and he just said nice to meet you all...my friends say he actually said meet err chat w/ you all, but I didn't hear the correction and walked off laughing b/c we all have met him before, lol. Anyway lovely surprise to go w/ the night! He was an adorable red-blue striped shirt.
And to relate this to DRS, Annie when I was getting you into the wonderfulness of Adam I was telling you about how many of the same roles he and Norbie have played so you asked if he was going to take over Freddy and in addition to me giving you lots of other reasons not...it was funny but seeing his attempted dancing in the movie...yikes. Would certainly bring a new humor role, but no so much laughing w/ in terms of laughing at...again, he and everyone is wonderful anyway. Great night!
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
