Mamie, Dennis is John's standby. He is asked first before understudy to go on. I'm surprised that he is going on though. Really wish I could Tom sometime. I mean, i know he's a great guy and actor.
happy b-day Mrs. Jbara!
hi greg. see you later! (in the slideshow)
Oh - she probably won't let me see them. He always gets all the cuteness out of his system while I'm at work. I get here for the evening cam and he's all worn out.
Thanks Dre - but it must have started out being Tom. Tom is listed in the original Playbill I have as being the only understudy for Lawrence. Dennis isn't listed at all. And if you go back over the early web cam pics you can see days when Tom went on for John. (I'd personally rather see Tom!)
I wonder why Tom was going on then instead of Dennis? It does seem like they missed the boat with that one!
(Sorry - I know standby's before understudies. Still doesn't seem to make much sense.)
Think I'm gonna make a run to JoAnn Fabrics for some black fabric, that is if my mom doesn't need me to stop over and watch my nephew. Hopefully brb ~
Oh - now I'm feeling kind of 'down'. I always feel like the shortened evening cam is almost over after the intermission.
hmmm - sleeping sickness?
OMG!! Thanks guys - I needed that! LOLOL That series will look wonderful in the slide show.
good bye
Hey all! Show was great tonight - but - John was out. Saw Dennis. He was good. I was pleasantly surprised, especially after hearing about his previous performances. Anthony loved it, so that's good.
We've decided not to watch the parade tomorrow. We have to catch a train to CT and I really want to be able to get some sleep. We'll have a better view watching it on tv anyhow.
Missed the end of the cam :P oh well. I wanted to get fabric anyway, and then had to watch my nephew til my brother got home (he was asleep when I got there so I just watched TV).
Hmm Great Big Stuff at 9:40...we'll see if I wanna get up before noon lol. Maybe I could just watch that and then go back to bed.
Where did you hear it was 9:40?
Well I'm at my sister's for thanksgiving and she is Tivoing it so I can watch it and all the bway performances and sleep as late as I want
To answer a couple of questions...I thought I heard from someone else on here that J&G weren't gonna be in it, but seeing as everyone was surprised, it was prob either from Greg himself or someone else at the stage door. ::shrug:: I mean, it is thanksgiving and they would just be standing around making **** faces so it's understandable...
Ryan, it is very bad for singers' voicers to sing outside when it is cold, very unhealthy for vocal chords. Notice all outdoor concerts are in the summer(well also b/c of nicer weather but this is a big factor too). Not positive but I think that's a major reason it's all lip synched.
Well Kerrie like I told you, don't see how he could have been worse...any other more detailed comments? Yaay for Mr. Non-Rapp liking DRS...damn too bad I can't meet him I would say hi Mr. Non-Rapp nice to meet you or something.
And second rent viewing w/ the family tonight, who all loooved it. Experience definitely completed, I love the movie. Still think it's a tad flawed, but understand some of the choices better and like it even more. Uh oh, lord knows how many times I'm gonna see this movie...
Checked the slide show, got the answer to my question on GBS' time. Good to know. Cute balloons and haircut and evening cam shenagigans. Great as usual Barb.
Wow about Dennis being in twice a week. I only will be seeing the show twice more till John leaves, the weak before he leaves, and the day he leaves, both Sundays, so I'm safe.
Oh and Mamie to answer your question...Thenardier...OMG I can't remember his name...Nick Wyman(whew) was John's original standby. He was let go, so John had no standby for awhile so when he was out, Tom was in. Then Dennis was hired as standby, so now he's in with John's out.
Thanks for the reply Amanda. That makes complete sense. Oh, I too saw Rent tonight and I was blown away. What an incredibly compelling story and musical score. Even I was teary eyed at the end because of its emotional pull. It was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. Time to see the play now.
Oh Kerrie, I hope to see you Sat night at In My Life? It is time for me to experience the wackiness.

'Safe'? Ugh, get over yourselves! Dennis is a great performer. SO what, he doesn't have quite the resume as John, but give the guy some credit, those are QUITE the shoes to fill!
I was just about to answer that mamie, when i saw Amanda's response. Well, I wonder who will be Jonathan Pyrce;s standby; Dennis? sort of hope not. I really do want to see Jonathan though. Maybe before I leave for college. That means DRS in one week, but who cares. lol.
anyway, couldn;t see rent (movie) tonight; sold out. so saw Yours, Mine, and Ours with my parents. Not bad. The beginning was a bit rushed, but it started getting better when the kids joined forces. Well, I'll see rent later, maybe sat or something. Going to try and get standing room only seats for Odd Couple on Sat. going to be fun!
have to finish a paper and send it off, then remember to set my alarm for 9:25 tomorrow to be ready awake for great big stuff. when does the whole parade start? I sort of want to see all the musical numbers. anyway, see ya!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!
Just got home from seeing RENT, well actually from eating at Applebeez but thats beside the point. I loved it and it was great becasue I was able to see an old friend whom I haven't seen in almost 4 years so it was a little reunion for us and we sat together and sang (not really though) and then went out to eat after. It was an amazing night. I'm going again this weekend and then again on Tuesday. I cannot wait.
Going to set the VCR to tape the parade so I can sleep in.
Dennis was actually hired as standby just before I saw the show with Dre. According to Greg anyways. We saw him on his second performance ever.
UIL if you have been following the thread and main board threads...no one has been a bigger supporter of DRS understudies and ensemble members and well full cast then me. But he just happened to make mistakes that I think were unjustified and was very unprofessional about it, I was quite unhappy, and feel "safe" b/c after that experience I really don't wanna see him again.
Ryan, I'm not sure when I'm gonna want to go back to the show now. I love it but after experiencing the movie cast, I feel I'll just be disapointed in the current bway cast, may have to wait awhile.
Happy thanksgiving everyone!
I understand Amanda. I just have one question: What is wrong with the current cast? Even Patronus expressed his disappointment. Is there something I should be aware of before I see it?
Taping GBS for sure. Hopefully I can get screen caps for the site.
Well it's different for every person, but a criticism of casts for the past couple of years is that they're all talented individually, but just lack the chemistry. There are a couple of new actors in that I haven't seen but I have my favs and unfavs. I love the Angel now, he's so energetic and an uplift considering so many of the other actors just look bored w/ the material. I really don't like the current Mark, he plays everything really motonous and sarcastic and it comes off as him looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. Goes on from there.
Ulgh, my sister won't tape the parade for me! Guess I'll hafta get up at 9:30 but ulgh I'm not a morning person, and it won't be fun to watch half asleep when I'd rather just tape it.

Good morning everyone ...ehm, and Happy Thanksgiving (I don't know if it's the correct greeting.lol)
So, there won't be any John on Wednesday nights and Saturday matinees. Well, he is probably pretty tired by now, but for me it's okay, because I couldn't stay awake on Wednesdays anyway being a working girl now.
Ok, I am off to work, and you...just celebrate your holiday, eat turkey and ...whatever!

oh man, GBS was fantastic! i hope you can cap it for Norb's site, Ryan, it looked stunning!
You really thought it was great? I thought it was awful. Norbert looked and sounded wonderful, but that Disneyfied version of the song was just ridiculous. If they were going to have to rewrite the lyrics of a song (which they obviously had to do with this one) then why not rewrite "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"? It would have been much better for this format and more of a crowd pleaser. It's Norbert's energy and mania that sells GBS and you just didn't have that (COULDN'T have that!) out on a parade route.
Figures. The performance was on earlier than 9:40 so I missed it. Turned on the TV at 9:35, just in time to see Adrian Brody. I'm taping it though so it's all good.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
i missed it too! so sad!! I turned on about 9:24, since I had to be up to change the temperature of the turkey anyway, turned it on and then they mentioned they were going to show Wicked. Which was ok.
anymore coming up?
what were the changed lyrics?
Shoot I got up at 9:30 and missed it! Saw Chitty but noooo I wanted to see DRS. Anyone want to be able to copy/send me a tape or get it online?
I'm sorry guys. Greg said 9:40 on his cam last night. I think they probably just ended up putting him on earlier than they originally thought.
Oh - there's my band!
