I can give you an internship reading Henry IV and taking a quiz on it if you want.
nah, sorry. only henry i really know is Henry 8th. I know all his wives (in order) how they died and who he is buried with.
*makes silly tee hee noises over the picture of JoGleas and Greg*
I know I haven't been posting, but I thought it would be an appropriate time to post to say that I'm listening to Greg's interview now.
Me too!
Moi aussi!!!
I'm not. I'm conquering the periodic table.

well, it will be on the american wing theatre website. listening to joanna's right now. soon john's.
new video preview of DRS on BWW now. pretty good. I almost started to cry cause the first cast is now about to lose the last three people (although, sheri and sara are coming back soon) but still. so sad!
Hey guys. My review will be up tomorrow but just a few quick things about tonight's show:
Dinner with Panda and Kat
Seeing Dennis as Andre...
Norbert and Jonathan cracking each other up the entire evening
Worst stage door experience ever (no Kevin = sub at door = rude and pushy people = a lousy time)
Another night proving Laura is beyond awesome
Norbert promising a chat about NLBOnline, hopefully Monday
I'll update soon.
i know the review is coming so I won't ask about dennis.
great to hear that you will get to chat with norb soon. yay!

Happy Friday to all! Hope you're all well.
I don't think Greg's XM radio interview will be archived on the American Theater Wing site. It was only done for the On Broadway XM channel and not as part of the ATW stuff ... wish it was going to be there, but from what I've been told, his was a separate thing. Wish I could've heard it when it was on XM ... read the requirements and sounded like my Amish Windows 98 and Windows Media 9 wouldn't quite cut it, so I didn't bother to even sign up for the trial ... I'll get to hear it eventually, so it's cool.
Also wondering where the oft-repeated "rumor" of Norbert's last performance date with DRS being the same as Greg's is coming from. My understanding is that Norbert's contract has him with the show through the end of July ... so unless he got some special adjustment regarding his end date (?), he should be there at least a week longer than Greg. However, some folks posting here on BWW may know something I don't about it, but thought I'd mention this fwiw. I'm just not yet convinced that they're both leaving 7/23.
Okay, well, have a great weekend everybody.
Barb xoxo
Barb, I can't speak for anyone/everyone, but I really don't think anyone is entirely sure of Norbert's last date. I think we all heard "July," though I guess not the end of it. *shrug* Besides, even tentative dates can change...Lithgow's contract was supposed to be up the 8th forever, before it changed. I've learned to not truly decide/believe anything until it's officially announced. We'll just have to be patient.
For the record, while on the one hand it would be nice have such a great seat for Norbert's last show, I'd prefer it if his last was another day. Kind of would like Greg to have his own day.
So obviously I missed the interview as well...long post of last night coming shortly...anyone happen to transcribe it Or at least, can give some info on some things he specifically talked about?
I am posting my short review in a few moments (not Amanda-esque but more about "DRS without Greg" since this is the GJL Thread). As for Norbert, I sincerely hope he and Greg have separate final performances. If they left the same night, the night would be incredibly emotional (maybe too much so) and neither would get full attention they both deserve.
Oh and Barb, tell Greg he was SORELY missed last night...
And now...storytime kiddies.
I was incredibly fortunate to see Rachel York at Seth's Chatterbox last night. Did I mention I love this woman? I won't mention too much, as you'll be able to listen to this on BWWradio at some point soon (absolutely listen!), but...will just hint. First off, she can do an AMAZING Julie Andrews and Liza Minnelli. It was perfect. She could be fantastic in Forbidden Broadway.
And you should hear me a bit on the radio if you listen. Rachel played Fantine in Les Miz at one point and was telling stories about a Javert who once or twice forgot his lines and the resulting laughter that came. So she was talking about when he comes to the barricade saying he has counted each line...then she couldn't remember the rest of it and neither could Seth...so I piped up with "I have counted each man" and then Rachel went YES! and finished with "I can tell what I can." I was proud. Unfortunately, another story was about what Valjean and Javert sing to each other when Valjean lets him go and I couldn't remember. Of course I did 2 minutes later when they moved on. Oh well.
She was also getting frustrated because she couldn't remember this line from Victor/Victoria. I didn't know it, but I did say oh you could watch the video, and they both laughed so maybe you'll hear that on the radio too.
And she tells absolutely hysterical V/V / Liza stories. Do not miss hearing about them!
And finally, she sang "I Dreamed A Dream." I...just can't tell you guys how absolutely amazing it was. I feel privileged to have heard it. So if I haven't made it clear, listen to her on BWW Radio!!
So then I ate, and was off to Grey Gardens. Lately, I try to know as little as I can about a show before seeing it, and that was totally the case here. I really had no clue what it was about. Nevertheless, it was really good. Interesting themes and contrasting acts. Christine Ebersole was just amazing, what a performance. I would describe the show as "different" which seeing as much theatre as I do, is always a big complement from me. I'd definitely recommend it if anyone can muscle tickets. Usually there's like people in the teens doing cancellation and often no one gets a ticket.
And of course, Sara was fantastic! Her part is basically in the first act, but that's longer and her part is very important. She plays the daughter of Christine, who Christine goes on to play in act 2 (Mary Louise Parker takes Christine's part). But Sara's an "it-girl" who's engaged to one of the Kennedys, but always has to deal with her eccentric mother, Christine, an ex-singer, who always tries to take the attention away from her and has chased away many of her boyfriends. Sara surprisingly sang a lot of soprano, and it was gorgeous. She did some cute dancing, definitely had an amazing singing moment, and gave a great dramatic performance. I'm so glad I got to see her in this.
It was amusing after...not too many people were waiting, but someone comes up to me and asks if I'm Mary (of course I think on this thread) to which I say umm no. He said oh sorry, she's supposed to go backstage (to myself: should have said I was).
Well Sara took a while, was actually the last to come out, because she was taking her close friend Mary all around. Kind of funny, I didn't mention waiting for Sara specifically or anything so that guy's mistake amused me. Anyway, god, I love her. We chatted for a while...umm of relevance, she misses Scoundrels, (though we laughed and agreed this role is a far cry from Jolene lol), she's signed through October but unless something comes up can't imagine leaving even then, since the next thing she's working on (Catch me if you can, yaay!) isn't set to get into action until probably a year from October.
Anyway, I'm so glad she got a chance to shine and be on stage for more than 2 songs, as her talent certainly deserves her to be. And of course, can't wait for her to come back!
And umm...I guess that's it.
sounds cool. when can we hear the radio show? and where?
it will be good if Greg and Norb will have different last days. but, then again, I would love if it was the same day cause then I might be able to sneak into the city and see it. but if it is two different days, I doubt it. but that's life.
It's on BWW radio, I'm not sure exactly when. Just pay attention to the little newsbox, it'll say there. I'll prob see it and post it as soon as I do.
Glad you enjoyed the show, Amanda. Is it worth seeing then?
Anywho, DRS last night was great. Norbert and John were fantastic as always and completely stole the show again with Ruprecht. This time however, Norbert went WILD and Jonathan just could not keep it together. They are a great team for sure. Joanne, Rachel, and Mylinda were excellent as always. I have yet to see any bad night from anyone.
However, I need to talk about Dennis Parlato, who went on for Greg last night. I respect the guy and his credentials and I am sure he is a fine actor. But DRS is just not for him. His Andre was simply not interesting and completely devoid of charisma. Like I did with Jason as Norbert, I tried to be unbiased and give the guy a chance. Well, unlike Jason, I was not pleased. I could not see why Muriel would be attracted to this man. He wasnt funny at all. Every line that Greg always got the audience howling with was delivered flat. His accent is not a problem but he talked so softly I barely heard him. Plus he looks way too old and because of his age, he didnt even carry Norbert in after the Schuffhusan (sp I know) scene. I really, really missed Greg and I am concerned that the bar was raised too high by Greg. I really hope a different actor can pull it off.
As for the stage door, it was a mess Kevin promised me last time I could go backstage to get a pic of Norbert and I for NLBOnline but wouldnt you know it, he was off tonight. His sub was there and he was worse than Kevin. He was rude, pushed people back, and was incredibly unpleasant. Kat and I were waiting with about ten people when suddenly, a slew of teenage girls pushed us aside. Seriously, they came along and pushed both of us out of the way. This crowd mobbed the barricade and went nuts when Norbert came out. Worse then, they proved to be Wicked fan girls. In the end, I was able to get Norbert's attention and learned that maybe Monday we can discuss some things about the site. But last night was just a disaster at the door.
So thats about it. However I must add that I LOVE Laura Marie Duncan. She is just so awesome and the biggest sweetheart in the world. I so hope after her time with DRS is over, she gets a Tony award winning role
