Really Cat? Wow. Well, Sutton's really sweet, I'm sure she was fine about it. Care to share more thoughts about Drowsy? I saw it last Thursday...didn't think it quite lived up to the hype, I wouldn't say it's as funny as DRS, but I still definitely enjoyed it, especially the message within that came up in the end
And actually, could you guys tell me a bit about Lestat? It's like...I think to myself I better see it before it closes, but it's hard to get myself to see it. I mean, is it badly entertaining? Like In My Life? Or badly irritating like Brooklyn?
How was Hugh Panaro? I love him! Eh, you know what I have to see this for him. But yeah any more thoughts?
It's funny, the way you guys describe being on stage for the first time...was how I felt being in the pit for the first time!
Okay my friend killed a kitten. Her stupid computer, I rarely double post otherwise.

Oooh, my shout out is in the slide show. Yay. Eventhough I've been mentioned on the cam before, I love this one 'cause I got the "official" wave! <3
I'm in Grade 8, learning Pre-Algebra (sped class). She didn't say the answers to the problems but I did hand the answers you got in because that's what I got too.
ok mary. good luck with that!!!
I"m so glad the I got my ass out of bed to come to school for Spanish class only to be in class for 5 minutes to take a quiz and then have the professot tell us we could leave. I mean what was the point. If he knew he was going to let us leave after the quiz why didn't he just cancel class all together and just have us take the quize when we got back from break. I just don't see the logic of making us go in for 5 minutes and then leave. Whatever. I guess it gives me time to study for Anatomy. Or I could go register for next semester. Probably the latter would be the better choice.
In My Life and Brooklyn were far more entertaining than Lestat, but rush tickets are 20 bucks and not difficult to get and IMO its completely worth it to see it for Carolee Carmello. Also, Hugh Panero's voice is obviously gorgeous throughout if you can survive the plethora of never ending haunting power ballads. As a plus, Greg aside, Hugh Panero is the nicest man alive, he could not have been more lively and willing to spend time with people at the stagedoor, its just not possible.
It boggles my mind that people dislike chaperone, all I keep hearing is the vague reson it didn't live up to expectations, which sounds like more the fault of ridiculous expectations on the part of the audience then the part of the show...At the same time, I suppose my taste in theater is not all that refined so I could just chalk the discrepancy in opinion up to that, but honestly I can't help feeling its a pretty good show. thematically it may not be extremely deep ,but it does very profoundly touch on the salvation of man in art. Moreover it manages to co-currently tell the story not only of a show, but of the man and it does it in a way that they interweave perfectly never stumbling on each other. In fact the story of the man is being told so subtly one doesn't even notice how fully his characterization has been drawn and shaped until the end. I think perhaps its the story of the show, which loses people, because since its a send off of twenties musical theater, it is stylistically based on that and maybe this fails to amuse modern audiences, because indeed many jokes are cheesy and necessarily so to maintain the stylistic integrity. The audience must wait for the more sophisticated jokes and observations from "man in chair." I guess some felt the spontaneous dancing was out of place, but since the dancing was rather a focal point of twenties musicals I don't see how it could have been rendered in any other direction. Hehe, I don't know, I enjoyed it, go figure...
I'm honestly going to say I didn't read any of that.
SPRING BREAK!
And Avenue Q. I'll be in NYC from the 21-23. (Not the 18th anymore).
OOOH MARY! I CAN STALK YOU.
Go for it.
Ahh okay Cat. Yes, I met Hugh Panaro at the Phantom Stage Door, and I agree, he's a doll!
But Bklyn was better? I thought the rush was worth it for Ramona Keller...hmm. Okay, I still need to see Hugh. I'll have to figure it out. Try to see it before it closes. Hopefully, it'll try a couple of weeks.
Umm, I hope you didn't think I didn't like Drowsy or didn't think it was a good show--I can't speak for other people, but the reason I said it didn't live up to the hype for me personally was I hadn't read much about it but some people were coming back saying it was the funniest thing ever...so I was expecting to be laughing as hard as I do at DRS...or even if I'm biased about that...Avenue Q, or even Spelling Bee. I didn't laugh as hard as any of these, but that didn't mean I didn't think it was a good show. I agree with everything you said. It's a good show, not up there with my favorites, but very entertaining.
But I do wonder how non Broadway fanatical audiences will respond. They may just think the whole plot of the show is really stupid, not understanding that it's supposed to be stupid and such, you know? Or recognizing some parts but thinking others are stupid?
I'm excited for the cast recording, as I will never see it.
I was just ranting hehe
Was it humorous? If it was, I'll make an effort to read it.
I thought so Mary. I mean I laughed, just not immensely. But again, I'm curious how funny it is depending on your broadway love/knowledge, particularly of '20s shows. I mean, I saw a high school do the boyfriend and I didn't really like that...
Again, there are universally funny parts, so...like others, I'm curious.
Ahh Cat. I think it's pretty impossible to not go in with some kind of expectations though, unless you're seeing like the first public performance. Like I was very let down by Hairspray the first time I saw it--I mean winning all those Tonys hyped it up in my mind. Now I like it much more.
Though it can work opposite. Things I've heard awful things about I don't think are that bad...like Matthew Broderick in the Odd Couple.
I was talking about Cat's long post.
I know a good amount of older musical theatre.
Well, aside from DRS, I am one of those non Broadway fanatical audience members so I will let you guys know when I see it (maybe Sat?). I know next to nothing about it but the billboards certainly make it sound interesting.
Ahh. Sorry Meghan.
Personally, I enjoyed it more than DRS, although not as much as Spelling Bee...
As far as shows set in the twenties I only have a very general conception of what they were like, obviously the spontaneous dance sequences, which were still prevalent in musicals of the 40s etc and shouldn't be much of a shock to anyone who has ever flipped on the TV and caught a movie from that time period...
And the slapstick brand of comedy, which reeks of cheesiness, however the show blatantly acknowledges the "cheesy" elements and bids the audience to take them for what they are...
Hehe, Perhaps I only liked it so much as I saw it directly after Lestat and anything seems brilliant in comparison.

You should've talked to Liz then after Lestat instead of going to see Drowsy Chaperone... bam.
Hehe, no quite a few people love it Cat. It was well constructed, and had some great performances, especially Bob Martin. and I mean, how can you not be moved by the end?

well, I didn't finish till 6 am, then went back to my dorm, grabbed a book from my room to read and stayed up till 6:30. I saw the sun rise. Can't remember the last time I did that. then slept for 3 hours, amazingly woke up BEFORE my alarm, had a shower, went to class, had lunch with prospective, took her for a mini tour, dropped her off with her mom, went to greenroom, about to go to a conference with an alum who is a broadway events coordinator (something like that. I'll tell you all when I get back), AND I'm still awake. haven't crashed yet. really surprised. ok, have to go. Have fun at your thing shootinstr!
My brother's volleyball team is staying here.
