I still thought Laura and Uli's designs were better than Jeffrey.
Jeffrey had a couple of great outfits, but even if you go by crowd reaction, Laura's collection and Uli's collection were clearly the strongest.
The finale was a joke. It seemed even that Jeffrey's bad boy image was softened up before the results were announced..we were supposed to decide he was likeable afterall. I still don't like him or his work. I don't get Jeffrey. Some of his stuff has been okay, but none of his work has shown the talent that Laura has. Perhaps "innovative" is now synonymous with "thrown together" and "popular only with the disaffected youth." Laura is great, but her focus is limited. Her collection disappointed me, not because it was horrible or even slighly bad (aside from the feathers), but because it was so close to perfect without being the indisputable best. Uli had the best collection last night, but judging from the entire season, her range and talent are limited. And Michael, I actually liked some, not all, of his designs. His inexperience is obvious and his taste is definitely less refined than Laura's, but all in all it's not as bad as a lot of folks would make it out to be.

Well, I for one couldn't be mistaken for the disaffected youth any way you want to stretch it, and I love Jeffrey's line. I'm old but I like the ecclectic," put different looks together" style of dressing, and I only dress casually. I think there are others like me around also.
His line was probably the most current and likely to be worn by the buying demographic, so you can't blame them for aiming for that in selecting the winner.
Congrats to Jeffrey!
Now onto my review…Laura's line was stunning and very chic which came as no surprise. However, the mere fact that 8 of her pieces were either black or very-dark toned made the whole collection appear a bit drab to me. Her attention to detail is otherworldly but I'd love to see expand her color palette a bit. I know of several urban-dwelling sophisticates between DC & Boston who don't want to look demure when they step out after-hours, not even the 40+ set.
Uli’s collection was simply outstanding. Each item was perfectly executed from my naïve perspective and she’s never shy about using color and print through she tamed the beast a touch for the finale. The line was beautiful and the models looked beautiful sporting her rags. I’ve spent a little time in the Caribbean and am confident that her stuff would go flying off shelves between Miami and Caracas. Like Laura, she has found a niche in which she's nearly without peer. I give the edge to Uli but my vote at this point is neither here nor there.
Much has been made of Michael’s taste or lack of depending on your perspective. I’m not going to come down so hard on him though given his age relative to the other finalists, paucity of experience and background. Taste is indeed relative. There is very much a market for the pieces from his collection including some rap video. I wouldn’t dismiss out of hand the commercial viability of what he produced. Though I found a few of pieces unattractive, especially that whitish Wonder Woman knock-off, booties will be bouncing real soon in a Michael Knight creation. That is a niche that is ripe for further exploitation. My only gripe with him is that unlike the others he did not deliver a cohesive collection.
I gotta give The Neck props for pushing the envelope. I’m no fashion guru but gather that the judges did not want to see the same old-same old on the runway. He was clearly the most experimental in terms of cut and fabric. While I don’t think that he delivered the most cohesive collection either, he seems to possess both the eye for spotting trends and the business acumen to be a top flight designer. Ironically, I found him to be the least technically proficient of the four finalists before the two parts of the finale aired. No one here agrees with me but I think he’s a better designer than Santino Rice of last season. Jeffrey takes chances while maintaining a vision whereas Santino makes it all up as he goes along. I don’t equate happenstance with talent or vision. Finally, like Michael and me both, Jeffrey probably objectifies women in a way that might rub a few of the ladies on this board the wrong way. The Neck designs outfits for his models that will give him a “charge”. While I think the ladies’ lines were prettier, the fellas delivered the goods in terms of what’s HOT for me as a male.
In some way, I was a little sad not to see Uli win. I liked her collection very much - especially the last dress. Laura's was nice too, but it would've been great to've seen a little bit of color - like a blue or green evening dress. Michael could've been better, but he's still learning and Lord knows I wouldn't have been able to come up with twelve pieces like he did. Jeffrey was pretty interesting - I don't know about having a bunch of zippers on one dress, but it looked pretty and I'm sort of glad he won, in spite of what Laura said about him.
Overall, everyone had a pretty good collection. Now I'm going to have to settle for Top Chef as I wait for next season. :)

I'm so late to the party...I have been traveling for work and have had Internet issues. But I MUST comment one last time, since the season is over (sigh).
I thought Uli would win.
I thoughts Laura should have won, but I knew she wouldn't.
I can sort of see why they picked Jeffrey, because it was the most youthful (although Uli's was pretty youthful too, no?). I found some of Jeffrey's garments a bit ill-fitting on the models.
Michael's outfits were odd and a little hoochie, but they looked much better on the models than on the dress forms. I just like Michael overall though - if not his collection. I think he has a bright future as a designer ahead of him.

OK - you're right - a lot hoochie! I was trying to be nice, because I like Michael (he seems like a good guy). But some of those clothes did look like streetwalkin' threads indeed!

I'm just now able to talk about this - it made me so mad!
I cannot stand "The Neck" - hate his clothes, hate how he treated people on the show. And mostly, I just hate it when good things happen to bad people!
And while Laura certainly wasn't Mrs. Sugary-Sweet the whole time, I thought her collection was fantastic and her work throughout the show was impeccable (minus the couture dress.)
Like Heidi said, she took an $8,000 budget and produced a collection that looked five times more exquisite. Regardless of not winning, I think both she and Uli will definitely be working in fashion with their respective target markets for as long as they like. With maturity, so will Michael Knight I'm sure.
after seeing the collections... i thougt Uli and Laura had teh best collections.
Jefferey seemed all over the place- i guess thats his style. I do think he was chosen because he will move fashion forawrd ( i can see that) but based on their collections.. i would have to say Uli.
