That's why I got so excited about it, Lioness! I'm learning sign language now and so I also knew that it was accurate and thought that was really cool. Whenever I see people signing (especially in shows - they do it briefly in Spelling Bee too) or deaf people, I get so excited.

What was that show...was it Big River?....that had the deaf people signing throughout the show? I thought that was so fantastic. I was sorry I didn't get to see it again before it closed.
I learned some ASL during one of my internships at a state run psychiatric facility outside Baltimore, Maryland. I was assigned to the deaf/hearing impaired unit. We had fulltime interpreters, but in being there 3 months I picked up quite a bit. I haven't used it in a long time.
Like the Spanish I took all through grade school and 3 years of high school, I lost much of it from disuse.
My supervisor and a couple of other students and people from the unit went to see a play and go to a club at Gallaudet Univ in DC. That was a neat experience.
I've been wanting to learn it again, but have no one to practice with usually.
I'm curious how much Raul does know aside from letters. He's been married a long time. Unless he doesn't see his brother-in-law much, I imagine he must sign fairly well. Or maybe his brother-in-law speaks as well.
Good luck, Alix! I kinda envy you learning it. Someday maybe I'll take it up again. Do you find yourself speaking with your hands more than usual in everyday conversation? Took me a good year or so to stop using my hands, sometimes with signing, while talking.
g, I'll be at the Kennedy Center on Thursday night!
*DC pride*
I don't really like the WW2 memorial. It's too gaudy, considering it's a war memorial. And I don't like that they put it smack down in the middle of the reflecting pool, it ruins that classic view from the Lincoln Memorial steps.
Wait, why does that sound totally unfamiliar? *googles it*
It's only a little more than a year old Em.
Really Skittles? I mean, I visited DC once or twice but actually being there it was there so I suppose I wouldn't have the view from the Lincoln bias. I don't think it's gaudy, the only thing remotely gaudy is the lights on one of the side, it actually felt the plainest and natural to me...I just love the little statues to each state and province that helped us fight and the fountain in the middle, which just gives me a feeling of serenity and renewed faith and hope as water keeps traveling and is reborn and those who died in the war but what we fought for, etc. and it all comes together and...I dunno, I just love it there.
"it actually felt the plainest and natural to me"
I would say that about the Vietnam memorial, which I definitely prefer. There are no plaques with pictures of war scenes, no fountains or statues. Just a black granite wall with the names of everyone that died. That's what a war memorial should be, not a playground and Christmas card photo-op for tourists.
Oh. Well, I see your point, I guess diff. ppl like diff. things. Personally, if there were ever a memorial for me, I'd want it to be beautiful and ppl to play and not just black w/ my name, but seeing as I highly doubt I'll get a memorial..when I say what I did about it, I meant in terms of the major memorials that we always visited, which for me was Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and WW2. I never thought of it like you, but again I do see your point, but...still my fav place in DC.
I'm going to see TTB!!! I'm so excited!
Really? That's so great, I love ttB. Where is it playing?
It's in NC, actually. It's put on by NC Theatre. I hope it's good!
Enjoy, Elphie! I hope they do a wonderful job!
Elphie, I am very jealous! When are you seeing it?
One day, I will see it live.
I really want to see it live again. I really hope that concert can happen.
Yikes. I was checking MTI's website to see where it was playing and a middle school in PA is doing it. This show is SOOOO not appropriate for middle schoolers and I'm terrified that they've censored it.
It's weird that they'd release the rights to a middle school.
Wait, sorry, it's a Middle High School. I guess it's one of those combo schools. But still, that's weird. The other productions are all community theaters and that kind of stood out.
The production I'm seeing has like...16 people. I'm assuming (and hoping) that the leftover 13 people are dancers, not extra characters.
ETA: Fantab, the end of January.
Maybe it's a performing arts school. But still.
Oh my. 16!? I guess I can see where some of them would go but are there 13 other roles in the show? Maybe if I actually counted there are? So it *could* be OK. As long as the main three do a good job.
Well, I know that at least some of them are dancers during "Sugar", because a girl in my theatre class auditioned. Maybe there are some people in the diner? *shrug*
hmmm, interesting. It's hard to picture but I guess it could look really good if done well. Yea, that's what I was thinking - diner people. And then maybe they have different people playing the other small parts that the 3 actors usually play or the lines the band has.
I really hope it's good! But, Jon is being played by like, an 18 year old, so that will be interesting. :-0
