I started a no-confidence thread for you all to register your protests. Go vote.
If I could, I would go to see the show ASAP. I think one of his biggest support systems is the ensemble in COMPANY and they are going to help him get over this disappointment.
My lame award show theory on this is - COMPANY became a proxy in voters' minds for Raul's performance, and DHP became a proxy for Kander/Ebb. SInce CURTAINS didn't (to my knowledge) get anything else, DHP was a way to reward the show, and COMPANY was a way to reward Raul. But since when do I expect award shows to make any sense?
Go to my No-Confidence thread and vote for Raul!
David Hyde Pierce is winning 6-2!

That could be it, but Curtains' not winning anything else wouldnt have occurred to Tony voters before they voted, you know? Or are you saying they assumed Curtains wouldnt win and therefore voted for DHP in anticipation of that?
And yeah, these awards are so political that I cant say anything really surprises me. I mean Martin Scorcese JUST won his first Oscar last year - that should say something.
I feel like the best way to support him is to support the show, so I think I am going to go tomorrow night. Is anyone else going this week?
I wish I could go tomorrow night! I may go back next week.
Somehow my post from last night ended up in limbo land.
So, this is what I posted after opiv:
"Ugh, don't remind me. It'll make me start to cry all over again. I didn't really cry so much because he lost, but because it was so obvious how much he wanted it and how much it would have meant to him. And that face. THAT's what made me cry.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go. It'll be interesting, to say the least. I hope my family likes it. "
I'm still going tomorrow, since they won Best Revival. I've always wanted to see a post-win performance for a show I really love, and despite what happened with lead actor, that win is NOTHING to shake a fist at. I'm really proud of them. And you know what? If there are tears, then so be it. I hope he will hold his head high.
I just went yesterday and now I'm more anxious then ever to see it tomorrow but I think its overkill. Although the guy who was sitting next to me yesterday saw it on Saturday as well.

I'm so happy they won for best revival. Even though he didnt win, I feel like their overall win praises Raul in itself.
Have any of you seen the show from the rear mezz? I dont know if I have time to do the rush tommorrow so I'm looking at tickets online now
I sat in the first row of the rear mezzanine and it is very good for the bigger picture but you won't get a lot of the subtler facial expressions from there. Still worth it.

ok, thanks
I'm really sad for Raúl but I'm still very proud of him. His performance, with or without a Tony, is still one of the best ones I've seen and I will still continue to be in awe of it. It just wasn't in the stars this time I guess.
The production is incredibly beautiful from upstairs. I saw it in the last row back in Cincinnati. Go for it.
Thanks for your help. Raul is now beating David in the No-Confidence thread. But if you haven't voted, go vote, because the anti-Raulians are setting up sock puppets.
grrr, I just feel so bad for him. His performance was brilliant, and he clearly put his heart and soul into it,. And to not gbet recognizedd for that just is terrible.
PJ - You're awesome for setting that up, by the way! :) I've had way to much fun watching that thread unfold instead of working today.
I love that people are setting up sock puppets over this! It's taking all the will power I have to remain fairly quiet, though, and not go yelling at people in both camps for acting like children, what with the Curtains fans gloating and some of Raul's fans behaving like someone died.
I know! My lord, it's taken every fiber of my being not to tell some of the fans on the main board to get a grip and relax. Yes, it sucks, but no one died. Everyone's still acting, it's all good people!
I think both sides are handling it miserably, so I've been doing my best to stay out of it. DHP's fans and fans of Curtains have every right to be happy, and that's wonderful for them, but it's wrong to mock Raúl and his fans in order to express your happiness. I wish they could celebrate without having to put other people down in order to do so, you know? That's not cool, and there's a lot more of it in general than I expected. But, per BWW usual, I'm glad we can all handle this like mature adults.
Everyone grew up so well. And I agree. Vindictiveness doesn't behoove either party, and it's not going to change anything. I'm hardly one to call for perspective, but DHP fans aren't glorifying his win by bashing Raul, and Raul fans won't remedy the situation by bashing back.
I agree that some of the DHP/Curtains fans are mocking the Raul fans, but they at least seem to be keeping it to the "OMG, this is the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of Bway!" fans... I'm not saying that this is the least bit appropriate, but I was half-expecting to see this thread flooded with sheer mockery.
There have been a few of full-out personal attacks directed at both actors on the boards that are definitely in poor taste... Why can't we all just get along?
Well, I hope as long as we keep away from the outbursts, we'll be let alone.
I don't think DHP deserved it, but his winning isn't his FAULT. He's just up there doing his job. Bashing him doesn't make it better. But yeah, like, attacks on Raul's personal life and such are completely out of line.
Totally agree, em. I've been side-stepping posting on any thread with 'Raul' in the subject. I don't want to draw too much attention to my av or this thread or any of that.
I completely agree. I ended up telling someone off on the main board earlier for abusing DHP for no apparent reason other than out of bitterness.
I think it's so silly. I only opened one or two of the threads, the rest I just let slide away. If people want to do something constructive -- assuming they're local and able -- the best thing to do is just to go and be supportive. Now more than ever.
