Whenever anyone on stage approaches those difficult notes, I always get that nervous feeling for them as if I'm somehow singing it myself. That happens to me at the end of Someone is Waiting every time.
Well, it seems like they all had fun with it, at least. I cant lie, I have an inexplicable love of bloopers.
the FB pics are back up
The show was great tonight. Great audience. My friends and I got there at 5:05 and got the last student rush seats. Yikes! All the ladies came out the stage door looking like they were headed some place fancy. It was raining and Raul took freaking forever to come out. He was a real sweetheart, though. We talked about recording the show on Saturday. It sort of seemed like he recognized me, because he said "Hi" in a sort of significant way, but I don't know why he would remember me, so it was sort of wierd. I told him I'd be at the show on Sunday and he said "Thank you", really seriously and heartfeltly. I was wearing flipflops and busted my ass on the subway floor. THAT was fun. I have to wake up in 7 hours and go to Bear Mountain and watch children so they don't drown. Fun.
You waited in the rain? That's devotion! Even I don't wait in the rain.
Bear Mountain is pretty
Well, I had an umbrella. And it's pretty much the last time. But seriously, I don't understand why it took a whole hour! Seriously. There were quite a few people waiting, even without umbrellas!
It's supposed to be really hot AND raining tomorrow at Bear Mountain, so it sounds like my day is going to be kind of hellish, especially on not enough sleep. But the show was worth it. I love it more and more every time I see it.
OH. One of the friends I went with met Sondheim. In London. I thought that was incredibly cool.
It was practically a full house tonight. Just some empty seats in the orchestra.
So good tonight! Swoosie Kurtz was there (which is why Raul took a while to come out) and Stephen Sondheim was out of that stage door really fast tonight. Swoosie tried to stop him but it didn't work. Raul was so sweet. He came out of the stage door and gave me a squeeze on the hand and then I waited until after pretty much everyone had left and talked to him briefly and he gave me a hug. I melted a little.
One of the lighting cues was off during the scene before Ladies who Lunch which was annoying because you couldn't see all of the actors .

OH MY GOD I knew I recognized her! I was staring at her kind of strangely. She totally noticed. And Sondheim came out the SD?? How did I miss that?! But now that I think about it, I totally saw him sit down late. I was like, "that guy kind of looks like Sondheim. He has white hair," then forgot about it. Wow, I'm kind of an idiot.
That lighting cue was super annoying and really obvious.
obsessed- You weren't the person I talked to Chicago about, were you?
LOL I kind of stared too and she definitely noticed.
Nope I wasn't that person. I did meet another BWWer and his wife though.

I saw the show on Tuesday, the night of the crack at the end of Someone Is Waiting. I think the look on his face afterwards was the same one I wore in response. My mom turned to me and asked if it was intentional. I should have told her yes, at least until later.
I was in the front left box with my mom. I'm actually very glad we ended up with that instead of front row. I officially got to see it three times from three wonderful, different angles. It was actually her first Broadway show. She loved it and cried and is totally sprung on Raul (which is rather unfortunate).
Also notable about Tuesday night? Cary Shields (who Raul was in Taboo with) was at the stage door. Just chillin', looking like a homeless guy, waiting around to say hi. There's more to that story that's probably only funny to me. But it was a good time all around.
Craww - love your avatar!
How has your mom managed to not go to a Broadway show before this? It certainly is a good choice, if you have to start somewhere.

My mom has only been to NYC once, and only managed off-Broadway that time (in '77). It's especially sad it took her so long, considering voice and theater were her dueling majors in college.
She caught all of Raul's Company performances on television and decided she was desperate to see it. It was a very spontaneous and irresponsible trip. An early birthday gift for her, and I got to see it for the last time a second time.
Raul needs to stop standing on his tip toes in my pictures with him, though. I don't know how he keeps looking taller, when I was pointedly high heeled and looking down on him. Pfft.
I'm really glad that you guys got to go, and that your mom loved the show!
I brought my mom last night as well, and to my suprise, she LOVED it!! I took her to see "Sweeney" last year and she was a little blah over it, but she just thought "Company" was fabulous - she even asked me to make her a copy of the cast recording!
And, as we were walking out of the theatre she said "wow, it's amazing that something as beautiful and artistic as this show couldn't find an audience, and something as god awful as "Chicago" is still playing after 10 years!"
Aww, I love my mom
My mom didn't like Sweeney the first time she saw it, but gave it another chance and LOVED it. She was kind of indifferent to Company in Cincinnati, but because it meant so much to me, I asked her to try again. She thought it was good, but didn't like it nearly as much as she did Sweeney. It's weird, then, that my mom will pretty often voice her confusion at why this show couldn't find an audience. It's nice that even if it wasn't her thing, she recognizes that it deserved better.

Elphie - sorry to hear about your subway fall - welcome to my life, lol. Bear Mountain is sort of close to where I live - it's a trek, though
I can't believe Sondheim and Swoosie Kurtz were there - I love her! Obsessed, I am jealous that you got a hug from Raul.
I really want this show to come out on DVD or be broadcast so that my mom can finally see it. I'd love my stepfather to see it too, but I have a feeling he'd talk throughout the entire thing or complain about Raul's scenery chewing...
lol the hug alone was worth standing out in the rain without an umbrella for an hour. He even like rubbed his thumb against my forehead and was like "You're all wet"--- it wasn't as creepy as I'm making it sound..

Okay, I can't even...
I need to start planning my post-Company drinking plans
Swoosie Kurtz was the one with the red hair, right? I thought it might be Julie White...hah.
Two things I forgot to say last night that I just loved- The lighting cue after Marry Me A Little; it's just beautiful. And Raul's face after he plays the kazoo and everyone's like, doing their thing- it's heartbreaking. So perfect.
