SO not a surprise, but congrats, E.
I am very happy for him, and for the COMPANY and Doyle nods as well. Also glad - OT - that UTOPIA got so many nods as they are also well deserved!
Way to go, Raul!
Yay Raul!!! I'm so excited for him!! :) Congrats!
Congrats to Raul and Company on the Tony noms! I wish the show would have gotten more, but 3's not to shabby.
That's all... I'll go back to lurking again... :)
Hooray, Raul!
I think we're going to need to have a support group on the day of the Tonys. I won't be able to deal with the suspense. I need someone to hold my hand.
Are they June 3, or June 10?
Same. I don't think I'll be okay until he accepts his award. :)

June 10.
The nom was almost a foregone conclusion, but now the real wait begins...
Dammit. I might not be able to watch! *sob*
Anyway, Raul's reaction, from Playbill.com:
Raul Esparza, nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Company
"Basically, I was trying to be cool, but I couldn't stay asleep. So I woke up at 7. I decided to catalogue my old cassette tapes. I had this great old one that I thought would make a great play list on my iPOD. I was going through my 80's music, [and] then I heard my name. I said 'Oh, wow.' It wasn't till a few hours later that I did a little dance of joy, but it took a few hours. A little celebrating. First time I was nominated, it was completely surreal 'cause I was no longer in that show. It felt like someone had kind of given me this nice prize, but the show had happened a long time ago. In theatre terms, when I'm at the street outside the stage door, I forget my lines. It felt like it happened years ago. So, it was nice that the last thing we were left with on Taboo was the nominations. Now, I'm still doing the show. I wonder what tonight will feel like. I love the weeks before the Tonys when you've been nominated. There's a wonderful sense of family. It's like surfing. It's being part of a club."

I saw that! It reminded me of Rob from High Fidelity (not an insult, the movie is legitimately good!). Congrats to Raul.
Awww, he's a "sentimental sucker". I love that.
From Broadway.com:
Raul Esparza
Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Company
"I woke up at 7 o'clock this morning and couldn't help myself—I started cataloguing old cassette tapes from 1985. I don't know why, but I suddenly felt this crazy need to check out my Siouxsie Sioux collection. But that's what happens: you become somewhat nervous and anal retentive. I had to abandon my '80s music when the announcement came on TV. I couldn't help it. I had to watch. The last time I was nominated was the first time [for Featured Actor in Taboo in 2004] and it was more of a wave of shock. And there was a disconnect, cause when the nominations came out, Taboo had closed and I was in The Normal Heart. And for me, once a show is closed I forget the lines. That's done. This time it's about a hundred times more meaningful to me, because it's the Best Actor award, it's for a Sondheim show, and it's for John Doyle. It's like some sort of dream coming true. Plus this experience—as opposed to Taboo, which was so fraught—has been so unbelievably peaceful, no chaos. I used to think the awards stuff was more important, but I've lost enough [laughs] that it would be pretty depressing to put all my hopes on the awards. But with the Tonys, you can't help that it's the only one that sort of sits in your head, because it's the one that every actor who wants to work on Broadway thinks of since they were a little kid. It's the first time we ever saw what New York theater looked like—on TV. I remember watching the Tonys on TV as a kid in Miami and thinking, 'What is that world?' Tonight after work, I'm going to treat my whole cast and crew to a drink. I can't wait to see them. And maybe it's because I'm a sentimental sucker, but I have a hard time believing something's real unless I've shared it with someone."
Awww, I love him.

If Tonys were given based on best answer to this question, Michael would totally beat Raul. :-X

Wow, Raul, don't cum all over yourself.
Can someone gag Chenoweth?
Michael DOES look fantastic blonde.
Aww, I actually thought Kristin was adorable. I don't usually, but she was funny! Christian Borle's cute, too.
Cerveris has nice legs.
Those posts make might night.
Michael is really. f*cking. hot. dressed as a woman.
That is especially jarring after having seen LoveMusik tonight. Yikes. Look at that...leg.
Man, if I were Christine Ebersole I'd wanna totally smack Kristin Chenoweth.
Raul is so f***ing adorable. He really LOVES that show, doesn't he?
PS- WTF? J. Groff is totally catching up to Raul in the Fan Choice awards. That is UNACCEPTABLE. I'm sorry. Just...no. We need to rectify that situation, like, now.
Ahem. Anyway, continue.
Who knew? He looked pretty chubby in LoveMusik. Did he put on weight for the role? Did he just put on weight in general? I remember him looking pretty skinny and sickly in Sweeney Todd.
But sorry, this is Raul's thread. I was just curious.
