I think I'm gonna buy the Lansbury version because it's the full production. I'm assuming the concert has minimal props and costumes.

ETA: I'm definately buying it because I'm sure I will need to watch it multiple times in order to completely understand everything. Also, I doubt Blockbuster carries it.

I'd assume the concert with Patti is just that, a concert... the other one is a DVD of the whole original production. Before you go ahead and buy it, you could see if your local library has the DVDs?

Ah, that's a good idea, I'm definitely going to check that out.

OMG you guys!! The Chatterbox DVD was SO F*CKING GOOD!!!
I'm going to tell you all about it, and post a screencap. Gimme a sec.

In the meantime...Get the Hal Prince production with Angela Landsbury. The concert version is REALLY good, and it's actually easy to follow the plot. But the Hal Prince production is the definitive version. You should definitely check it out.

But OMG Mano's reenactment of the JCS story was SO GREAT!!! hahahahaha

And he looked SO good (Quicksilver beanie and all! LMAO)

A lot of people apparently don't much like Angela Lansbury, but I got the OBC DVD rather than the concert anyway, because aesthetically, it's definitive.

I'm going to get the OBC DVD. I want to see a full blown production.

Where'd you hear that, now? Angela Lansbury is amazing!

the obc tape has a downside. johanna is so shrill that i had to mute her. anthony looks like a beach boy reject. they cut the judge's johanna scene.

concert was perfect especially if you like the revival.
sorry to butt in. i can't shut up where sweeney is concerned.

Before I bought the DVD, I asked around, and a strangely high amount of people seemed to be like "I HATE ANGELA LANSBURY AS LOVETT!" I was like "o...kay then." But moreso than that, I just wanted to see what a truly traditional production looked like, you know? Even though he concert IS semi-staged. A friend of mine has the concert, so we're going to swap at some point.

Oh my god, Betsy Joslyn is AWFUL as Johanna. Her eyebrows are on ecstacy, or are having a bad reaction to some horse tranquilizers. She's crazy, and I don't think anyone likes her in the DVD. But she's fun to tease, and she sings a pretty good alto by the end.

That name sounds weirdly familiar; anybody have a clue why?

I think she was married to George Hearn or something, at one point. Or so I've been told. Then she plays his daughter in Sweeney... wierd.
