Wait, no!
What does the little white coffin symbolize? Is it supposed to be the fancy barber chair? I was thoroughly confused by it.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 8:49pmI've been putting off listening to 'Apparation...' because I want to take a shower but I'm lazy. So I started watching Prozac Nation, which I never saw, but then realised it would make me less happy so I came up and played guitar and hurt my fingers and got lazy. But I will play it SOON. And Chica, I will get to the end of it.

I interpreted it as sort of the child that he never had...almost as if she was dead to him.

The white coffin symbolizes many things.
It IS Sweeney's barber chair, yes (which is perfect, since he sends people to their death while on that chair). It also serves to represent Sweeney's obsession with revenge (which is why he carries it and fondles it often), the memory of Johanna (which is why he gently strokes it during Johanna Act II), and at the end, Lucy's body.
I'm sure there are a LOT of other ways to intepret it. But those are the basic ones.
eta: Good one, Liz. The loss of Johanna, the girl he'll never see again.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 8:51pmIt also serves as a pretty comfy chair at one part of the show which I can't remember. I just remember somebody sitting on it. Michael, I'm sure. Oh, and if you ever need to fight somebody off and they happened to chase you onto the Eugene O'Neil stage, you could hit them on the head with it.

When was it that Toby took the pills? I never noticed that...

When The Judge is standing behind the big coffin. Mano's by the piano, Donna Lynne comes over and is like 'here! take this pill!' and he goes 'ooh drugs! I love being an actor.' and they get high together. In so many words...
Hahaha, Chica, I beat you to it!

NO ONE notices that. The only reason I saw it is because Mano told me about it.
When the Judge is at the bench, right before "Kiss Me", Mano's at the piano. Donna walks over to him, and gives him some pills.(She also takes some pills herself!)
Donna told me on Saturday that after Anthony runs away (before "Epiphany"), she also gives him a pill. I've never noticed that, but will look for it the next time I see the show.
eta: Yes you did, Gypsy. *pokes out your eye*

Well I am wearing an eyepatch over my right eye when I took my user-picture. It's just hidden cause my head is turned.
And now I'm going to go away, and when I come back I will listen to Apparition. *promises*
Notice how I never actually have anything to say about Mano in this thread? I'll probably say something in... the Threepenny thread or something silly like that. ^_^

You posted that pic of Mano in the Abe Vigoda jacket, though. I'm going to count that as your Mano contribution to this thread. So...HA!
And yeah, listen to Apparition. So creepy!!! And hilarious.

Really, if you see the DVD, all confusion about the plot should be cleared up. Then you can geek out with me about the conceptualization of this new production.
Ok, I'm going to log off, cause my computer's a little wiggy for being on for so long. And I need to send Mano some Marga Mail (HA!) later tonight. So I'll let it rest till then.

There's the Lansbury/Hearn one, and the Patti LuPone concert version.
I'm not gonna have any money left.

I'd assume the concert with Patti is just that, a concert... the other one is a DVD of the whole original production. Before you go ahead and buy it, you could see if your local library has the DVDs?
