Now that this has been more than triple verified as being true, I just re-affirm to anyone that has a positive view of SuperPope to effing educate yourself! The catholic church as been F***king the world for years with no end in sight. This has been going on for centuries, protect the wealth of the church, spread the lies and dogma and let's f**k the boys and girls that are young and don't know what's really going on. I was an altar boy, believe I know!

What makes this worse is the Vatican itself arranged this, not the US people. The US is so much about removing "puppet regimes" and spreading democracy but none of that applies to Vatican City. They do not elect the pope and are allowed to continue like nothing is wrong. My low low opinion of the pope and the church has now gone even lower. Maybe they'll send Davis one of the pope chairs or the Fiat he used here.

This news must be shouted and exposed for the hypocrisy that it is. This bast**d needs to retire too, or die now. The next time I see white smoke coming from Vatican City I hope the place is burning down to the ground. I rant I know but I'm p*ssed off.

Well, kinda. Anyone who is still clinging to that "who am I to judge" bullsh*t has been kind of willfully ignoring how it is. Anyone who is really surprised he met with Kim Davis has not been paying attention.

I've been reading Signorile for several years and thought he has always provided thoughtful insight and definitely has been telling the truth and exposing hypocrisy. We were played...by the pope's "loving comments", by kissing the babies, by blessing the boy with Down's Syndrome, that all made great PR;

until the truth comes out!

The cynic in me suggests that the Pontiff was manipulated by Team Orange Is the New Neutral. The timing of the tete-a-tete was suspect. A certain fellow needed the distraction of the Papal visit to gain the moral high ground on the insurgents in his party. Knowing his goose was already cooked, he got the Pontiff an audience before the Congress, did a back door deal with the opposition to keep the gov't open tomorrow, and took Planned Parenthood off the front pages before the hearing. In other words, he gets to leave on a high note appearing to have saved the Republic. He also steers clear of any blow back from the Pontiff's meeting with that bat shaite crazy lazy from KY which his team probably arranged privately to appease the Cruzites. That friends, is some pretty good political theater.

Frankly, the only people played by Pope Sunshine were those people who were so eager to be played that they happily chugged the Papal Lemony-Fresh Artificial Kool-Aid Of Vaguely Worded Generalities rather than actually, you know, think about exactly what the guy was, and more importantly WAS NOT, actually saying.

And now Kim Davis has pissed in that Kool-Aid.

And there's this from Signorile, which just hits it all on the head:

I'm not surprised by the actions of Pope Sunshine one bit. They're consistent with church doctrine. His Holiness will not step too far out of line. I am mildly surprised however by how crafty a few American politicos were in exploiting the Papal visit to the nation's capitol to maximum effect. I'm not going to suggest that the Pope was somehow innocent but at least one lawmaker had ulterior motives when he introduced the Pope before a certain August body. Broadway has nothing on the GOP when it comes to mounting a theatre production.

I said it before, I'd rather have someone like Fvckabee against me than the Pope.

Please don't take this as me defending this Pope. I'd never. But everything he has advocated, from stewardship of the planet to reverse climate change to concerns over income inequality to his anti-death penalty stance to, yes, his adherence to anti-gay policies are found in Catholic doctrine. This isn't new. There isn't a change in any substantive way. Why anyone is waving metaphorical palm fronds at this man is beyond me. The only thing I can think of is his predecessor was SO terrible, that this man seems somehow to be a breath of fresh air.

I am seeing a LOT of Catholics saying that the only reason The Vatican is not denying it is because they can't be certain she wasn't in a big group of people he randomly met. Is this even possible? It's quite a different story from the one Davis tells.

Why would Davis lie about this? As many claim (hope)? This was fought mightily on Facebook by those who refuse to accept this Pope's self-serving duplicity. She's stupid and hypocritical but if anything creepy in her earnestness. She is too illiterate and inherently fearful of religious figures to imagine the Vatican wouldn't denounce her lies. And that's why they have not. She couldn't wait to brag, and even the Vatican said the Pope didn't want it mentioned until he left the US. That part speaks volumes, too, about the political machinery in place to cover his Roma-bound culo.

Brilliantly worded. I'm still picking up the scent of a major GOP operative who set her up for the Monica Lewinsky treatment. This time instead of a blue dress with jiz, the evidence comes in the form of a pair of rosaries.

ETA: Let's settle this once and for all. Someone from the GOP orchestrated this whole thing in such a way that there would be no blow-back while fingers wagged at Kim Davis & the Pontiff. Excerpt from NYTimes article follows:

"Mr. Staver said the idea for a meeting was first discussed on Sept. 14, more than a week before the pope’s arrival. He declined to say who proposed the meeting."

I heard the same theory today- more conservative pro-Benedict elements in the Vatican orchestrated this to both shame the new and comparatively liberal pope and discredit the excesses of the American Protestsnt Fundamentalist movement.
