Mel, could you at least see it another night?
Hurry Em!
I think it's a little sad that I still have the Rent blog as my homepage. I'm having trouble parting from it.
I saw a United 93 trailer on TV last night. I'm not sure how I felt about it. I mean, I understand that's the nature of the industry and just because of what it is, they're not going to like, let people see it for free, but... the trailer was so commercialized, and it really felt like the movie was being pushed from *such* a marketing standpoint. I don't know if i agree with... well, in some ways, using the story to make money.

Hi, Fairy! Nice to see a new face.
Did anyone see the L.O.S.E.R segment on the Daily Show? Best thing EVER.
fairygodmother, I changed when I got home and realized that my pocket was still full of used tissues.
I'm going tomorrow with my sister instead. I wasn't planning on seeing it. It felt too soon for me.. but I was reading reviews in the newspaper the other day and it made me really want to see it.
More than once, I've left tissues in my pockets, washed the pants, and then.. found fuzz everywhere.
ETA -- hi, fairygodmother. :)
I hate that. It takes forever to get all the little fuzzies off.
I don't think I can see United 93, at least not yet. Aside from my intense and probably irrational fear of airplanes, I think it would bring back waaay too many memories from 9/11.
I do know someone in the movie, and I really want to be able to see her. I'll probably wait for the DVD.

I hardly ever see movies in theatres. The only ones I've seen this year are Rent, Brokeback, V for Vendetta and Goodnight and Good Luck.

Can someone tell me what V for Vendetta is actually *about*? The trailers I saw didn't really answer that question. I want to know something other than "Natalie Portman shaved her head and there are lesbians."
I got this from the official website. It's a good plot summary.
"Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as "V." (Hugh Weaving) Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself - and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption."
I've seen it, and plan on seeing it again. I really enjoyed it. It's on my favorites list.

V for Vendetta... Well, it's by the guys who wrote the Matrix, and that alone makes it difficult to explain. On the surface, it's about a mysterious man in a mask called V (think of him as a cooler, more well-rounded and developed version of the Phantom) who plans to start a revolution against the corrupt English government. A girl named Evey (Natalie Portman) gets caught up in it against his will and he exposes her to the things the government has banned, like art and poetry and isn't sure if she wants to be a part of it or not. The movie is mostly about how Evey's fears and what she learns about them from V. The other side of the story follows a pair of government agents who are trying to figure out who V is and what he's up to.
That's a really crappy explanation because there's so much more to it. It was really good and quite touching, honestly. The lesbians were not at all included for shock value. I can't really explain their function without spoiling a major part of the story, though.

It's a Guy Fawkes mask.
I heard they weren't, but the way people reacted seems that's what they took from it. It used to be a graphic novel, or am I thinking of something else?
I've tried multiple times to watch and understand The Matrix (all of them, at least once) and.... I'm hopeless. I don't know why I don't get it, but... bleh.
I was at Virgin today, and they had a ton of $10 DVDs, but I didn't buy any because I'm not sure what I like/want to see enough and will like enough to own them, hence watch them often. But it did remind me that there are a lot of movies I want to see.
Yes, it is/was a graphic novel.

People (ok, straight guys) love lesbians in any capacity, even if there's no girl-on-girl sex in the movie. It really kind of annoys me that that's all they got out of it, though.
Speaking of lesbians, I would be a lesbian for Natalie Portman. My gay guyfriend would also be a lesbian for Natalie Portman, which I discovered while we were discussing the movie in the middle of our Bio test the other day. She just doesn't look bad from any angle. It should be illegal for anyone to be that hot.
When she hosted SNL, that was one of its best episodes in a long time. She was fantastic, and yes, she's beautiful.
... wouldn't he just go straight for her? Or is he that girly that it would be easier for him to be a lesbian? heh.
Well, I got through two chapters. *sigh*

By saying that, Emcee, he meant that he'd pretty much do anything to get her.
Elph, you have to speed skim.
It's 7:00 and I'm finally taking out my books to study. I have no problem staying home on a Friday night, but studying on a Friday night makes me feel like a looooser.
Poor Elphie.

Well, you are going out to see Mano in Concert in a couple of days, so I think you should be able to live through a Friday of homework.
I'm not even supposed to be studying on Friday night. We're about to have guests for Shabbat dinner. But I *have* to, or else I won't know anything. Hopefully the other chapters will go quickly; these were two I'm not so good at. *crosses fingers*
I miss Jon and Stephen's interaction on The Daily Show so much. I'm happy for Stephen that he got his own show, but at the same time, I really miss Stephen talking to Jon during the correspondent segments.
Edit: Just watched the video of Stephen talking on The Colbert Report about the Correspondent's Dinner, and he was so humble about it. Very cute.

Don't you just love the word 'shvitzing'? I don't know if that's the correct spelling, but it sounds so cool.
LOL. I love Yiddish.
It's chilly in here.
