I would love to know what everyone thinks. List songs you have used and successfully gotten the gig with, songs you've heard that are great, etc. Oh, if anyone says Rent or Wicked, I think I might have to die. Ok..... GO!
I would hope nobody would say RENT or Wicked...
Hm, funny, I actually can't think of anything stellar right off the top of my head.

There are about 20 pages of them in my book....
well lets list 'em JIJANE! :P
Hah, pretty sure that's the point. She wants to keep them for herself. =P
I don't blame her. =]

That's so bitchy
Hah, do you really think so? I think it only makes sense. If you had the special ingredient to the most desirable food on the planet, would you go around giving it to everybody?
I don't know. Maybe I/you/somebody would. But the logical thing would be not to. Just talking reason here.

If I wanted to keep them to myself, would I have published them all in a book?? Makes no sense at all. Surely making them public like that is the LAST thing I would do should I want to keep them to myself! Not that it changes anything, a good song is worth a lot but it's not the only ingredient that will get you a job.
Ohhh...I thought you meant in your book, as in the book you have compiled for yourself. Lots of people I know are SO protective of their books and hardly let other people look at them at all, save the pianists that play them for you.
Right, so, my apologies. I didn't realize it was a published book, as opposed to your personal, compiled book of audition songs for you.

Ah right haha I see, you meant "the book". Well I have one of these too.
"I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" from Carrie. My aunt sang this for an audition a while ago and landed the role. It's great cause the melodies' beautiful and no one else sings it so they can't compare you to anyone.
I think for legit singers one of the best female audition numbers is "Will He Like Me?" from She Loves Me. Most girls go straight for "Vanilla Ice Cream" because it's got the high B flat in it but in the right hands of a good actress on top of a stunning singer I think "Will He Like Me?" can be really beautiful.
For more belty I really like "I'll Forget You" from The Scarlet Pimpernel. People bash on Frank Wildhorn left and right but I think that there is merit in some of his work, this song particularly. It's also a song that requires not only a stellar voice but some serious acting-chops. That's just my two cents. Oh and in the last four years I've only heard each one of those songs once.
Cheers,
Christopher
Ooohhh Will He Like Me is my favorite song out of that show and I do have to say, your ability to hit high notes does not necessarily make you talented and I know some people who could use to figure that out.
I kind of like I'll Forget you in more of a mix than a belt though.
You know what's really nice to audition with is Beth's last part in Some Things are Meant to Be- it's almost exactly 16 bars, it has a lot of subtle emotion and its right in the middle and I like having a couple pieces in my rep book that are really in the middle of my range, just for bad days and days when I'm sick. And even though its a duet, you can go back and sing it solo...just figure out where the melodies are first.
That was a much longer rant than I meant to go on........:)

Is "Will He Like Me?" overdone?
What about "Times Like These" from Lucky Stiff?
I don't know if Will He Like Me is overdone. It seems that most girls go straight for the song with the high note which is Vanilla Ice Cream if they're using a She Loves Me song. I've only heard it once in the last four years at my school where girls do tend to repeat music a lot; it's one of the few that hasn't been done again.
I've never heard anyone use "Times Like This" before. Beautiful song and is very funny in spots too. This is a great acting piece as well as something that can show a couple different vocal sides to a performer.
Cheers,
Christopher
