I think she is, too, but it was insulting. SO many people DO believe in God and do believe that prayer helps. If they are wrong, they are wrong, but it does no harm. Saying it was anti-intellectual was a bit harsh. That said, there is the old story of the man who was stranded in the middle of the ocean and prayed for God to help him. A boat came by and offered help and he said, "No thanks. God is going to save me." A second and a third boat came by and he said the same thing. He ended up drowning. When he got to heaven he asked God why he didn't save him and God said, "Man, I sent three boats!" I don't for a second believe that God is going to perform some miracle and cause a whirlpool to suck all the oil back into the rig. I do think praying that God will give someone the wisdom to figure it out is a positive thing for people to focus on. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but it makes me people feel like they can do something in what is proving to be a hopeless situation. Of course, Elisabeth just makes me want to turn to atheism.

BTW, I loved the 2 men co-hosting The View. They should do it more often. The hot topicks segment was awesome!

I really want to know about Elisabeth's religion. Does she actually attend church, how often does she attend, etc? Sometimes I think it's all just lip service from her to maintain her status as a poster child for the right.

I don't think she REALLY believes half the things she spews. I think she just gets her talking points from the other crazies and runs with them.

According to her wiki page she was raised Catholic (makes sense, raised on Rhode Island, went to parochial school, went to BC). I'm personally lapsed but come from a family of cafeteria catholics but that is not to say my church did not have its share of politically conservative parishoners who went to mass only for the important holidays, even less than my family. She just strikes me as that type because the only time I really heard religion on the show was about Rev. Wright.

What I find strange is she said her parents were 'apolitical' or 'ex-hippies'. Something like that, so she feels like she was not raised into somebody conservative (though somebody very religious perhaps).

I can't even watch that show. It gives me a migraine.

For the record, Joy's show is an off the charts hit. Do your research CountA.

Also, as usual, Hasselcrotch missed the entire point with her aimless anger. No one(Janeane or Joy)was anti-prayer. What they were saying IS that when you are looking to a world leader or anyone who is in power to be given DIRECTIVES on an environmental crisis to pull a prayer card is really not helpful. I totally get their point.

To those that pray, pray away. To those orchestrating a disaster relief, we need ANSWERS and a PLAN!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

My parents and I are liberal-to-moderate Dems. My brother is a hard-core Tea Bagger. We were raised the same way and somehow the gay one is NOT the black sheep of the family. Our parents did not push religion onto us at all, hoping my brother and I would choose our own religious paths. My brother always had a more small-town sensibility, but it was after his stint in the Navy that he became a Southern Baptist Right-Wing Conservative and more conservative each passing year.

Ratings. Without her, the show would be a snoozefest. The more she blathers, the more we bitch, and the more interested people get in watching what happens next. The producers are loving it and she probably has the best job security next to Barbara Walters.

While Bitsy may have been raised Catholic (I don't believe it was strictly so, though), she's now involved in a megachurch, thanks to her husband. It's believed she changed everything about herself - including her political views - so that she could marry into what turned out to be the poor man's Mannings.

To call the Hasselbeck family the poor man's Mannings is being incredibly kind. Matt was the only one in that family who has done something of note in the NFL. Tim, EH's husband, on the other hand made a career carrying a clipboard on the sideline and thanks to Lissy is a talking head clogging my ESPN. It should be noted he aired a lot of dirty laundry about the Giants when he retired, so no, not a fan.

I do think anti-intellectual is the right term to use. It's not a solid solution. It's "pray, I guess" because there is no solution. It's just something to say when you don't have much else to say.

But one can only hope this whole situation expedites transitioning to alternative fuels.
