I'm looking forward to watching this show tonight. Since I'm not going to be watching "Dancing with the Stars" this fall I think this is a good replacement for a talent competition for me to watch. I am also excited about the Simon Cowell & Paula Abdul reunion. They have excellent chemistry and things were not the same on "Idol" after they left.

Looks promising, though part of me wants it to fail if only to bruise Simon Cowell's ego. I have no interest in seeing 12 year olds perform, though.
I thought that first girl, age 13, was fantastic. wow. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her!

After the first hour:
So far they have been fawning over a 13 yr. old girl, Rachel.
And a 42 yr. old down-on-her-luck-mom, Tracey (or was it Stacy?) Both were great.
Now what happens if they end up as the 2 finalists?
A 13 year old and a 42 year old...okay, we get it - you're different from Idol.

I can see why Cheryl Cole wouldn't have worked as a full-time judge in America. She's very beautiful, but she sounds like she grew up on a farm in the countryside of the U.K.
beautywickedlover - believe it or not Cheryl Cole is from Newcastle - a city in North Eastern England.
The accent (Geordie) is predominantly an urban one, although there's a softer version you get in the surrounding countryside. She's from a council estate - I doubt she's been on a farm in her life!
I usually have trouble with accents, but Cheryl I understood perfectly! Now if she would answer when I call an IT help desk I wouldn't be so frustrated. To top it all...she is gorgeous!
I am enjoying this show as much as I did the British one.
Loved it!
Welcome back, Simon and Paula!!

Watched some of it, turned it off after the guy sang "I'm A Stud" or whatever it was, and wound up flashing the entire audience. Painful enough, even with the show's logo superimposed over the naughty bits, but what made Paula so physically ill?
I don't know but I hope Chaz Bono does the same thing on DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Meh...retread of idol. I got bored with it last night but really liked the last guy. I didnt like Stacy that much. She was pretty pitchy and if you arent Aretha or Carole King, dont sing "Natural Woman". The 13 yo was pretty adorable.
And I'm not interested in the Simon/Paula dynamic. It wasnt funny then and is even worse now. She is completely pointless as a judge. I'm holding off judging Nicole yet, though the birthday thing was just stupid.
I quite liked Cheryl and am sorry she was kicked off the show.
I enjoyed it last night (except the guy who dropped his pants. He was disgusting).
I thought it might be like Idol. I didn't think it was.
Stock, I was cracking up!

I did to. I didn't know she was kicked off the show, that's to bad. I can't stand Nicole as a judge, she was horrible on The Sing-Off! I also never liked Paula. I would much rather have Simon, L.A Reid and Cheryl as the judges.
I liked Cheryl, as well. There was some excuse that people couldn't understand her, because of her accent, but I had no issue understanding her. Of course, the accent excuse does not explain why she was fired from the UK version (where she appeared for multiple seasons). Nicole is most-definitely a downgrade. The male host is the most unnecessary thing on television. Now that is an annoying accent!
"what made Paula so physically ill?"
Her love of attention and the need for drama on the show.
JohnBoy - I think she quit the UK version to do the US version, and by the time she was fired from your version, ours was already filming. There has been talk of her coming back for the live shows, but nothing concrete and from the papers here they've got to the Judges houses without her - and it would be strange to have her back to mentor people she hasn't selected.
I prefer Steve Jones' Welsh accent to Cheryl's Geordie one anyday. Haven't seen any of him on the US show yet (as it's not on TV over here as far as I know) but he seemed to be doing ok on Fox's live from the Red carpet on Sunday night.

Fair enough. I wonder if they'll have security escort future flashers from the stage?
