I couldn't stand Ellis because I thought he was ridiculous. But when I think about young college theatre majors, the character doesn't seem so unbelievable.
Seriously, Jordan? That was the first Final Destination. Final Destination 2 could be her getting smashed by a log truck.
Was it Final Destination 3 where the girl(s?) died in the tanning salon? Cause that was good.
I agree that Ivy was the villain that I loved. Ellis was just an annoying little gnat who got waaaaay to much screen time.
I do feel bad for James Cepero. How does an actor come back from that kind of ridicule?
It says Speilberg liked the character of Ellis but it was Rebeck that liked Jaime Cepero. Everyone but her wanted him recast.
I agree that the character was poorly written and ridiculous but I think I would have hated Ellis less if he were played by I different actor. I thought Cepero was terrible.

I'm surprised they wanted to recast Megan HIlty and not Katharine McPhee, who was so dull and boring from the get-go. Also, if you've seen the second season premiere, you know the show got less campy but it isn't necessarily a "good" show now.
My problem with Ellis is that he's supposed to be the villain you love to hate, but he has no actual power, and except for the "you already tried to fire me once, and that didn't work, did it?" speech to Julia, any time he tried to assert himself, he got smacked down immediately by Eileen and retreated. And I think Jaime Cepero wasn't a good fit for the role. There's no weight to his performance, and I think this kind of villain needs some. As was said earlier, he just seemed like an annoying gnat. He's not actually threatening to anyone else. He could have been re-envisioned successfully as a junior Michael Riedel, but he's not really a worthwhile villain.
Over the past couple of weeks, I re-watched all of Season 1, and knowing what to expect, it was actually much more entertaining than when I watched it the first time around. It was kind of said in jest earlier, but if you ditch all of the non-theater-related stuff (Dev and the Mayor's office, Leo's pot troubles and the adoption storyline, all of the pop songs out of context like the bowling alley scene), the rest of the show was fun and watchable.
A few things I disliked more this time around:
-Katherine McPhee's horrible acting -- she has no facial expression
-Karen does in fact have everything handed to her on a plate with minimal effort on her part, and she is a very 2-dimensional character
-Heaven on Earth seems like a horrible show, dated and corny
Things I appreciated more:
-the Shaiman/Wittman songs are really good, really well-performed, and reflect well the "real-life" storylines
-Uma Thurman is really great.
-Ann Harada has great facial expressions
-Ivy Lynn is totally messed up, but she is fascinating to watch (kind of like Juliette Barnes on Nashville)
Ha, i agree with everything you said MIKEM except i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see HEAVEN ON EARTH!!! Especially with a drunken Ivy!!!
"The first season wasn't even interesting enough to hate watch. So I hope watched it because it had to do with Broadway and I didn't want to miss it if it ended up turning out good. But it sucked all the way through.
I do think it's encouraging that they're willing to retool this midstream. I'll watch the first three shows of season two. But if I'm still just hope watching at that point, I'm cutting bait."
^^^--Precisely, exactly, word-for-word, THAT. Thanks for saving me the time, Artscallion.

That was FD5, robbie. And also Patricia Krentcil.
FD5 was the NASCAR racing 3D one, right?
FD1=Plane
FD2=Highway crash
FD3=Roller coaster?
FD4=?

FD4=NASCAR (3D)
FD5=Bridge
Final Destination aside, looking forward to seeing what they do this season with Smash.
Saw the 2 hour season opener on the flight this week to Costa Rica. It's still crap.
Maybe because they just called it The Final Destination, since it is supposed to be the "final" movie in the franchise. And the end ties it to the first movie.
I've seen 1,2,3 and 5. Nothing was worse, for me, than the log truck accident. I see log trucks all the daggum time.

What's the opinion on Derek/Jack Davenport? He's my second favorite character, next to Eileen.
I love Jack from Coupling, so I'm just glad to see he's still working.
So was Ellis gay or not?

I assume bi, because he had a girlfriend early on and then slept with that one guy later in the season. It was never really specified what his orientation was.
I wasn't sure if he slept with Uma's assistant-person because he was actually into him, or just to ruthlessly further his career and the show's prospects.
Yeah, I think he got it on with him to get an in with him.

THAT's the guy he slept with! I couldn't remember.
I know a lot of people were assuming early on that he was going to have a coming out story because he seemed too gay to have a girlfriend.
I thought at first it was just for his own gain, but then later he seemed to actually have feelings for the guy, or at least showed some remorse when he overheard him saying something cruel - oh well, one of life's mysteries, I guess.
Wasn't his GF from early on Cindy, the black chorus girl?
I don't think so. Didn't Condola Rashad play his girlfriend?
