Has anybody had it? Has anybody done the recipe?

That Dominique Ansel made it gives it some heft in respectability but this hybrid seems bound to get ruined if it does take off.

This is one of those deep-fried things you get on a stick at the county fair, right?

Covered in lard, drenched in sugar, then deep-fried in butter before you add the frosting and syrup.

It was actually created in a New York bakery owned by Dominique Ansel. Friends I know in LA have seen bakeries that now make and sell them and I know people who have used the recipe. But it does seem inevitable it will have the state fair treatment.

I haven't had a cronut, but I did have the knock off "Cro-Dough" from Gregory's Coffee and it was delicious. I'm sure it had thousands of calories, but it was honestly more like a croissant than I would have anticipated.

(I then did a 4000 yard swim workout that night, so maybe I burned off all of the calories anyway.)

Holy mother of Pearl,

My corner doughnut shop has started making these and filling them with creme, custard, chocolate and maple butter!


I bought one of each and I think I'm in trouble...

I've had a knock-off and while it was good, there are other pastries I'd rather have first. However, I like the cronut more than a regular donut (except perhaps for the original glazed Krispy Kreme)
