Variety is reporting that Day-Lewis is in talks to play Guido in the film of NINE. That certainly might be intense.
Okay, I'm officially intrigued. Still bummed about Bardem's unavailability, but Day-Lewis would certainly be interesting.
I love Day Lewis and would be A-OK if that happens. He makes anything watchable. He and Johnny Depp are modern day chameleons.
I'm still pissed that Javier backed out.
Why not find an age appropriate actor (or at least one who reads that way on film)? Yikes.

Yeah but it's DAY-LEWIS!
As long as he can sing I'm all for it. But I really don't want to have this superior score butchered like the Sweeney movie did.
I love the entire NINE score (even the Roundabout excised "Germans at the Spa") ... yet curiously, Guido's material is the least interesting musically. I'm more worried about, say, Ms. Loren's ability to warble the title song. On the other hand -- Sophia Loren. SOPHIA LOREN. It may be so authentic and heartbreaking, the notes won't matter.
But The Bells Of St Sebastian and I Can't Make This Movie would just not be the same without a Guido who can hit those notes with confidence and support.
My favorite songe are actually Luisa's (My Husband Makes Movies and Be On Your Own). Who is playing her again?
Those are my two favorite songs as well, Taz, and Karen Akers renditions of them are truly stunning (and heartbreaking.)
I think your favorite, Marion Cotilliard (sp?) is playing Luisa in the film.
That sucks. She didn't even sing in La Vie En Rose, why would they think she can do this?
plus, she's freaking nuts!
Someone call Monica Bellucci, quickly!

Maybe they'll have her lipsynch to the OBCR.
That would be awesome!
Deet's right about Karen Akers. Still the best Luisa ever.

Someone here (best12? Don't remember) mentioned Robert Downey Jr. as their choice to play Guido and I thought it was a fantastic suggestion. Oh well.
By the time I had seen the original production of NINE on B'way Sergio Franchi had taken over the role of Guido...it was a performance I will never forget...this older, yet still handsome Italian man with an amazing voice...there has to be someone out there like him.
If you want the part, Boobsie, just say so.
*runs*
Boobs MUST BE Guido!
Actually, I loved Masterson in the revival as well. Luisa is my fave character. I saw Maureen McGovern in the original run. She sang it beautifully, but had little presence. Masterson broke my heart...she was the standout for me in that production. I hated Krakowski and Benanti's perfs.
I'd rather a Guido who can sing. Raul Julia was not a great singer...his intonation was awful (anyone see La Mancha? Eek!)
I say BOOBSIE!
Wait a minute. Did Antonio Banderas die?
Doodle..if I only had a voice like Franchi...ahhhhhhhh
You're modest, and old.
yea..but at least my ass is still rock hard
Perfect! All a good Guido needs is a rock hard ass!

Actually,Cotilliard sang at least one song herself in LA VIE EN ROSE.It is in the scene that Piaf sang in a cabaret first time, the song calls "Les Momes de la Cloche".She is no Piaf, sure, but she is good enough.
