Semantic question here: what's the difference between "something that deserves the hype" and "something that's really, really superfine/outstanding/kewl/OMG/[insert trendy adjective here]"?

Answer: there has to be hype!

I was thinking about this in reference to my own planned addition to the list: smoked gouda. Trouble is, has there been any hype about smoked gouda? Anywhere?

Didn't think so.

Unless... this thread itself functions as a hype machine for those wonderful things that are underhyped (autumn morning air, tantrums, carrots, etc.). But it won't work unless you actually step up and hype it.

So: SMOKED GOUDA! OH YEAH! TERRIFIC CHEESE! IT WORKS WELL ANYWHERE! IT MAKES EVERYTHING TASTE BETTER - SALAD, ICE CREAM, A MARTINI, POST TOASTIES, YOU NAME IT! IMPROVE YOUR LIFE - EAT SOME SMOKED GOUDA TODAY!

There. Now there's some hype for the darned thing to live up to.

I laughed out loud when i saw "hamwinkies" I love that show!


Even though I enjoyed Sweeney, I don't agree that it deserves the hype. It's only enjoyable if you know the story.
